I know whet is out hunting, I'm working on my truck (I have a 300 mile round trip to go pick up a horse 8am Monday morning and the heater isnt working).

I used to make a couple of those trips myself, with my dad. But ours were for goats.

Lol hunting, or picking them up?

Its a family affair for us too, I don't care for horses much, dont do anything with them but my sister owns a gooseneck Heart 32' (12k pound) 3 horse slant w/ living quarters and drives a Honda fit so I'm the only one in the family with a truck that can pull it lol.

The funny part- the truck isn't my DD so the heater hasn't worked for years I just don't drive it at 8am when the windows are foggy still, that's the only reason I'm workin on it now, if it weren't 8am I would wear a coat and put the windows down.

To keep the Mods happy, here are pics of my 4 favorite knives. NOT PAYING THESE FORWARD. Duh.

Swamp Rat Battle Rat

Mustard and Apple Cider Vinegar. I applied it in stripes and random paterns, then cover it in vinegar-soaked paper towels for about 45 min. I repeated this process about 5 times, adding detail each time.

It is pretty easy to do on any carbon steel knife. Try it out!

I'm glad you like it. I guess if I can make you like a $35 knife more than a $500 knife, I have really mastered the patina.

Hey loonybin,

I got the stone today. I have got to say that I may have found a new love in free hand Sharpening.

I practiced first on a beat up Enlan and I got that in very sharp shape with relative ease. After I had successfully defeated the magazine paper, I decided to move on to something less soft than 8cr13mov.

So then I go to work on a D2 leak. I can already tell going from one to the next I had gotten better.

Using the 400 grit stone and a stop block, I was able to get a very clean edge in about as much time as it takes to boil water.

I want to thank you again for letting me experience free hand Sharpening. I know I'm going down the rabbit hole on this one.

I tried to get a couple shots with my phone but this is the best I could accomplish.
Glad it arrived! I stink horribly with freehand and use an Edge Pro and a Sharpmaker to make mine sharp and keep them sharp.

You've got me itching to try freehand again, but the last few times I failed miserably (closest I do now is the guided rod system [dont know if mentioning name is ok, I'll avoid it])
Yes, it's OK to mention the name, just don't link to some place to buy one that isn't a paid dealer on the forum.

If i manage to take a deer this weekend i am going to try gutting it with a Svord Peasant friction folder from a previous PIF thread. If this is an idiotic idea someone let me know please. It managed to open my thumb with great ease, so i imagine it should be up to the task.
A friction folder for gutting? Not a good idea. You need at least a locking folder for safety. Fixed blade would be better. At a high of 24º today, I was a little reluctant to go, but the flat tire on my vehicle convinced me to stay home today instead of go hunt. No deer for me this archery season.:(

In all seriousness, I do like the looks of a well used carbon steel over stainless. That, and the Sebenza never really appealed to me.
And perhaps it was just my screen, but for every knife the BK14 showed up, didn't see any of the other ones.

Wow...I don't know why you computer would do that...Anyway, here they are again.

Heyas all, greetings from Germany!

I follow the PIF threads for a while now and I have to say: I like the idea very much! So much generous folk around here, keep it up!
As Karma was very nice to me the past few months I would also like to participate, if that is ok, being from Europe and all :)

I want to pay forward two (almost) never used Opinels (a #6 and a #8, both with the XC90 carbon blade).

As shipping from Europe to North America is not that cheap I would like to do that as follows:
- Only for someone who never had an Opinel before
- Opinels are meant to be used, so I would prefer them going to someone who wants to carry/use them a lot!
- I'll ship the 2 knives to one person, he/she tries them out, then decides which fits the intended purpose best and forwards the other one to the second one interested.
- I cannot ship until next weekend, and it will most likely take a while to ship

So just post your interest in claiming and a short abstract of how you intend to use them and I'll choose who I'll give them to by next friday!

Keep it sharp and best regards,
Nal0n aka Bernd
