This is a Rough Rider Small Toothpick in Smooth White Bone. It is a nice knife, if not very high cost. It is brand new, but came with a bit of a bent blade (doesn't rub though, so 100% functional).

If you are interested pm or email me, that is how to reach me. There are no rules, just be cool and I will decide who gets it.

Thanks man, are you sure you don't want it? I was ready to buy one (the 10 actually) so it's cool either way. I appreciate your offer of knowledge, it is what I really need more of! I will definitely keep it in mind. Do you use a belt sander on the blade?

No need for a belt sander. The steel is thin enough to file down without one. I just use a file. It takes a while but not more than a half hour if your diligent.

Man if you aint tried an opinel you're in for a surprise. You'll be hooked and be buying every size anyways, especially if you're into modding them. They're pretty much the only knife I respect and i feel free to mod. you can make them more elegant than a laguiole or leave em rugh for work, its really up to you. Yeah get that one. I just remembered I'm waiting on a vintgae no 10. Th elast size i need is a 9 to complete a set of the locking sizes. Don't know why i need them all? well you'll see.

Hey guys got a "what to get next" question but I value you guy's oppinion more than a bunch of random people I'd get if I started a new thread...

The two choices are a spyderco Caly 3.5 (VG-10) which would be another knife in my EDC rotation (and im guessing get lots of pocket time) or a Matriarch 2 wave which would be carried in a [secondary, behind my pistol] SD roll (so carried every day but not really used much). What to do...?
Ask yourself how often you get into situations that really warrant going "Hannibal" on someone. There is a middle ground though. The Endura or Delica waves both fit an EDC AND waved defense role. Also the Southern Grind Bad Monkey.

You should check out Michael Janich's "Porkman" video. He uses a box cutter and a Delica to show how deep a small knife can slash. You'd be surprised. Older vid of his, but still relevant.

I will pay forward 1 of the following: Kershaw Chill, Kershaw Crown, or Kershaw DWO. (The chosen knife will be NIB, shipped straight from the seller to your door.)

There are two conditions: First, you must not own ANY Kershaw knives. I want to introduce you to the brand for free. (or at least free until you are addicted)

The other condition is that you must PIF at least as much as you receive. I will be checking to see what you have PIF'd and what you have gotten.

P.S. I think it would be cool to count the number of things payed forward, as to me, praising ourselves for making 1000+ jibber-jabber posts is pointless. I don't mean that friendly conversation needs to stop, just that we should remember the real purpose of this thread. How about at the start of the next thread, we have every giver number their gift. That way, we wouldn't rely on post number to see how much generosity there is. What do you all think?

I think that would keep people who haven't/can't/don't want to follow these long threads from joining in. Just my opinion. I'm no forum god.

Well, the problem I see in that is it gets awful close to keeping score, which that is now what this is about; and there have been a lot of PIF's done behind the scenes. Several of the givers also prefer to remain anonymous and let it be about the paying forward, not the credit.

(Disclaimer: I want a waved matriarch really bad. Cause it's awesome. However, I almost definitely won't get one)

I think it would be prudent to add to these already good points a couple more. 1st: if you will also need a utility knife, will you honestly carry the matriarch every day? You may, I probably wouldn't. 2nd: who says the caly 3.5 isn't a GREAT self defense knife? No, it doesn't come waved, but the zip tie mod works great. If you don't trust it's ability in that role, look up stories of its use against big cats to big criminals, they are out there.

The caly 3.5 was my first really good knife. I loved it, it's a great knife.

I love the idea of carrying a waved Matriarch in my left back pocket. We aren't allowed to carry a handgun here in the great state of MD so I would rely on it for self defense purposes. That and my kung fu....

Not in my opinion. People who give more wouldn't be any "better" than other people, it would just be a way to show how much generosity there is. (a lot)

For those who prefer to remain anonymous, the receiver could post someting like:

"Dear Anonymous,

Your knife arrived today. Thanks so much! (PIF #XX)"

That's why I said to still allow the conversation. The forum wouldn't be any different except that it would show how many PIFs there are in any one thread. Then we could try to beat our record.

No need to try to quantify it in my opinion, plus that would be an enormous undertaking. Just let the good karma flow unhindered. Nothing is stopping anyone from doing that of course, i just don't think it is really needed. My $.02

Ok, but then why praise the 1,000 jibber-jabber post, but ignore say the 100 or later 1,000 person who pays someting forward? It seems a little like the "In on one" posts on the first page of the thread. Just my opinion though.

How would recognizing how much good karma there is hinder the flow of more good karma?

Personally, I prefer not to brag about my giving. And since you have brought the post count thing to my attention, I agree, I'll leave it our of future PIF history postings.

I think if you want to keep count on what you have PIF'd that's cool. I personally don't want to keep track of what I have given and whom I have given it to. In my eyes, I give to anyone (well almost, must be in US) who wants or needs what I have. I don't think that I need to remind myself or others what I have given, or even that User Whatever is taking a lot of stuff. If User Whatever takes what I give and sells it on the Bay, then bad on him. I really believe that good things happen to good people, and bad people, well they get theirs in the end. It all evens out in the end. So if you guys do decide to keep track of what you are PIFing in the thread, I will politely not adhere to that rule.

I just think it would be a hinderance to add any kind of tracking to it, having to figure out which number you are in the line of PIF items, having to go back and edit posts to correct your number if someone posts while you are typing, etc. i won't be doing that. Also the conversation is part of the fun of the thread, and congratulating someone on 1,000 posts was/is at least for me another way to pay something forward to a participant. It has become kind of a mini game, i find it entertaining anyway.

I would like to give more but I haven't shipped some of the stuff I offered up before.

I am working on it guys, just give me some time.

It's strange how bills will sneak up on you.

Agreed. The focus is NOT on post count, it is just something we acknowledge. It's a forum thing, happens in many forums.

I don't think we should count things paid forward, because then it will almost definitely cause debate about whether someone is contributing. Too many restrictions creates tension.

This has been sort of a wandering tangent for most of a page, and none of it had to do with knives. I don't really want the mods popping in again, so can we divert back to knife topics?
