Your family will find you under a bridge with nothing but a box full of Opinel's and 4 days' growth on your face...your clothing ragged, they'll take you downtown to a nice clean place where the doors lock from behind a desk where the overweight nurse sits all night reading romance novels in her glass cage....
Dunno bout you, but I'd probably be clean shaven with cuts all over my face with all those Opinels.

Madame, have I got a deal for you!

th

Just say the word, and this one's yours. :)

If the Case is no longer available and no one snatches this (looks like a #8?) I'm on it!

My face is not worthy to feel the faintest brush from a knife of such magnificence ;)

I think both were offered specifically to you due to your inspiring comment

I think i am gonna buy one of these mystical opinels just to see what the hell you are all talking about. And then of course pay it forward here ;)

It's a No. 7. Excellent little blade, just can't find a lot of use for it. I gave up whittling a while back and it's suited to little else. The one I'm going to give you (sounds like you accepted) has a banana patina. :)

May I suggest something? These kinds of talk of governing and how things should be governed, &c- wouldn't it be better to raise those issues in that thread 'PIF WTYT" (opened just after this thread) or something similar? I'd think it's a blassing in disguise, us having two threads where we could separate giving and the various aspects of this glorious set of threads (I think the first part might've been referred to as 'politics' in earlier threads).

NikkiR- I don't think there's escaping from this thread anymore... ;) You've been *the lady* of these threads, and if you don't continue claiming the things you like, there will be the rest of us, blokes, claiming them for you (wherewer you want it or not).

To tell you the truth, if I don't find something to offer, I might be taking a break from posting here- I've been both humbled and overwhelmed by generosity of some people (and, even if they pretend to not know what I'm talking about, they know who they are). I've been lucky enough to score something I needed, and was more than fortunate enough to send out some stuff to people who might like and appreciate it, more than I did. I've been foruming for quite a while now, and I can honestly say I've never, ever!, expirienced such display of consideration and care for fellow posters/human beings/afficiandos. Even some bickering, or slobby emotional escapades (like mine now, haha) can't detract from basic premise of those threads (Thanks, Jimh- you're the champ) and can't take away from sheer and overwhelming goodwill spirit being spread out by those threads.

And thanks for being when more awesome than I thought you were in the first place.

Still have sketchbook and zerust dividers... I'll "pre pay" it forward.

Yeah, it would be helpful if the chatter was moved to another thread and the original thread is kept for the actual passaround.

But the chatter is what helps keep people involved. We have multiple running conversations as well as "giver" posts, and as far as I can tell everyone enjoys the conversation.

Hey Wolf - don't have to be only giving to post here, encouragement and good humor are always appreciated as well.

Always go with carbon, brother.

May I inquire- why? The reason I ask is that I was under the impression that carbonne was a bit keener on taking the edge but a bit more 'chippy', and Sandvick stainless edged it a bit in terms of a compromise. The reason I ask is that #8 is most likely to be my next purchase (if another store doesn't get a sheepsfoot sailor's blade with marlin spike earlier than that, and I like those a bit 'oversized' about 3 1/2" ot something like that- another knife I feel I must own, even though I had a knife like that but passed it onto a friend knowing she'd like it)

None of my carbon knives have ever been chippy. To be honest since I have SAKs, my other old school blades (opinel, svord, douk douk, mercator, and higonokami) are in carbon. Why? Like you said, they take a better edge, and hold it a bit longer. They also establish character over time with a patina that is full of memories. When it comes to an Opinel in particular, because of the thin blade I look at slicing and edge retention over softness(toughness) of the steel.

Mmmm...welll...

What will you be using your Opinel for, Whetstone? What do you usually find yourself cutting (cardboard, paper, flesh, plastic, tape, etc...)?

Usually the first thing i cut is MY flesh, but my EDC's are really that, every day stuff. The mail, food prep, boxes, tape, etc. i am not unaccustomed to carbon, and know how to care for it. But i have never even seen an opinel in person, much less held one.

Wait, i got it, i'll buy one , use it, review it, and the pay it forward to someone else in the thread for a contrasting review. I think that would work

Well, since it has gone this long. I've given everyone a chance at some. I'd love a bundle, I haven't had any in forever.
I got your email & replied, your FW will be in the mail Tuesday not Monday which is Columbus Day.

I knew I said I wouldn't take anything else, but we don't have fat wood in my neck of the woods. If no one else wants it, I would appreciate it very much.
All right, you get the last bundle Ma'am.PM inbound.
