Like the carbon steel on this sodbuster that belonged to my dad. It's like a razor. He skinned many gator's with it.

I have claimed more than i have payed forward and i hope none of you feel that i am taking advantage of the thread. It seems like talking about whats fair and creating rules is kind of what brought an end to the other threads. Just my two cents. :)

You are not taking advantages. Unfortunately others are ^^^

I think there are still some items available if I've been paying attention, I think a buck smidgen (unsure) and a couple bundles of high end fire starting material (not sure what else to call it:D) oh, and a pair of plyers

My Buck is still availiable for anyone to claim(:

Your family will find you under a bridge with nothing but a box full of Opinel's and 4 days' growth on your face...your clothing ragged, they'll take you downtown to a nice clean place where the doors lock from behind a desk where the overweight nurse sits all night reading romance novels in her glass cage....

No beard...you will have your boxful of Opinel's to shave with!

ETA: RemyKaze beat me to it!

Note to self - read entire thread before posting a smart-ass comment.

First of all, Remy- get yourself another old/new school blade. I have Nieto's Navaja (I think it's the mdel 420 in medium size), which is a modern (let's say gentleman's folder) take on classical Spanish design (let's not go into details of brigands' knives, infamy and carraca sound... suffice to say, it is rumoured to have inspired both Bowie and toothpick designs).

What impressed me about Opinels was almost weightless feel when handling one- as if they were balsa, and had some sort of plastic 'training' blade. They weigh next to nthing, fit your hand perfectly (so far, I've only seriously played with gardener's #8 I bought for a best friend- unfortunately, she didn't cross my palm witha piece of copper, as I've told her she should do- and the 'curse' struck*). Annoyingly addictive, and comfortable, little knives- I'm enamoured by some cheap Chinese piece of steel, but they remind you why a knife is a tool, and as tool, one can really feel them as 'integral' and as unconspicious, part of EDC-ing... Weird feeling- I thought I shouldn't like them, but have no choice but to like them.

* if by 'curse' one could mean, I did something very stupid and she's now mad at me ;)

I would love to say yes, but if it is ok with you, could it go to someone new? Or someone with a need for it? It is a very generous offer but i am sure someone new could use it, and it would give them a chance to participate.

Been wanting to check those and the true French Laguiole knives. Speaking of work knives, everyone should have a Svord Peasant! Vastly prefer it over an Opinel. I want to say the steel is L6, which takes an extremely sharp edge.

Lol add that to the list of things I need to get including but not limited to..

Svord peasant
any sort of case knife
any sort of modernish folder (only own traditionals)
any sort of multi tool
some sort of kai product (I guess that goes hand in hand with modern folder)

Man, I got some work to do :D

Did some google-ing, the svord peasant looks great, only question, how does the blade lock if at all? do you keep the blade in place by having your hand on the little tail-thing-a-muh-jig on the end of the blade?

I'm sure people would be happy to hook you up with some of those.

If no one else wants it, may I have the Opinel ? I've never had one, and my son's have been wanting to whittle with me. But I only have 2 knives that seem to fit for the task. I have a Vic Tinker, and a Colonial Forest Master. I was thinking my oldest might enjoy an Opinel as his first knife.
I can offer a sharpening stone, or a CRKT Ryan to pay it forward if anyone is interested.

The Opinel in question:

It's a No. 7, Carbon, and it has a bit of character because I did EDC it for a bit. The dimples on the handle are from a puppy that got ahold of it for moment when I wasn't looking :D

My blade forrums totally crashed on me, I think I must've insulted the opinel gods by attempting to post that the puppy teeth marks add character.... I think what they want me to say is:

HOW DARE YOU LET A MAGNIFICENT BLADE BECOME DESECRATED AND MANGLED BY A HELL BEAST?

in all seriousness I like the overall package :D
