PayPal F&F only ... REALLY???

ALL buyers and sellers should read LEGION 12s post #1 in the "another pay pal discussion" sticky. Perhaps a "sticky" could be put in the for sale section linking to that post.

I completely avoid the sellers taking only FF - why anyone would send money to someone they do not know that way (hoping the get something back) is beyond me. It's just stupid. Like a few others have said; I can not stand these folks who say the buyer has to add money to cover the seller's PP fees. This one burns me the most. To me it just seems kind of slimy. If your selling a $200 item, is $6 really that important to you? If it is; then just list it at $206 and be done with it.

I don't get it either, really.

It's cool to hate PayPal, I'd guess a lot of the F&F only guys believe they're sticking it to PayPal somehow, and that the F&F only schtick is a way of advertising their badassery . It's especially funny to me that a lot of these guys spring for a Priority Mail mailer that often costs more than the PayPal fees they're so annoyed with.

I understand not wanting to take a 2.someodd percent hit on your net. Why not just price your stuff at a price point that will net you what you want and not put your buyer at risk?

I don't even have the option to use F&F due to local laws and paypal's regulations regarding those laws. So even if I wanted to buy something from a seller who only accepts F&F (not that I would), I can't. They're just losing themselves more potential buyers than they realize.

Wow - has paypal so different settings around the world? I have F&F option but as I'm international I have to pay fees anyway, so rather choose regular paypal.

Yup, some countries don't have access to F&F. I think it has to do with not allowing money to leave the local economy untraced and/or untaxed by the government; I can't say for sure though.

... like they're doing us some huge favor by selling stuff they want our money for.

This, especially. Where else on the planet do you buy things and have to calculate your own price?

Every time I buy stuff at the store and there is tax added on. Lol

But I do hate the "add ..." or "Net To Me".

I don’t ever consider buying things listed “F&F only”.
That being said, and because it hasn’t been mentioned here, I will tell you why they do it.
PayPal almost always sides with the buyer. Some people have sold things through PayPal G&S, buyer says they never received item, item was not as described or damaged in transit. In some cases they send back a used item instead of what they received. Send back nothing (say they never received item) or send back a counterfeit and keep the real item.
In these cases the seller gets screwed. The buyer knows PayPal will side with them 99% of the time.

Personally, I use PayPal G&S and list my price as TYD - to your door.
For my part, I try to make life as simple as possible. For me and others.

ETA: It also irks me when people say “PayPal G&S - I will eat the fees.”
You are not doing me any favors. That is what you agreed to when you opened your PayPal account. I realize the price is the price and it doesn’t change what I’m paying. I just don’t like people acting like they are doing me a favor when, in fact, they are not. It always gives me that “shady, used car salesman” feeling.

Disclaimer: I sold used cars in my twenties.

Whenever I see someone asking for “friends and family” payment, or doing anything else shady, I put them on ignore.

Most folks doing the FF are just trying to pick up a little extra on the sale and are just clueless, not malicious. If it is something I really want, I'll explain this before backing off. I'll also offer the extra to cover it, too. But then, only if I'm really interested.

I agree, though, "Just tell me what you want for it, all costs included, ya dope! I'm trying to buy something here!"

And don't get me started on the failure to post pics.

I know any deal can go wrong ... but you are setting yourself up if you are use F&F to buy anything ...

If I want to buy or sell something and someone unknown with no posts or feedback and that no one I'm familiar with can vouch for ... I have no problem asking for a USPS money order or passing on the sale either way ...

and soneone will say "money orders can be fake" ... well anything these days can be fake ... but you can get it checked by the local PO and even wait until it clears ... and USPS may not be great at some things ... but they take mail fraud very seriously and will sort that out ...

It just really still amazes me at this ... and how many ask for it ... once I've seen that ... that sale is dead ... and anymore that seller is off limits to me ...

Like I said I don't sell alot but I try to make it simple and easy for buyers and I try to help new buyers and show them all the respect I would hope to get from a seller ...

price your item at what you want ... do the math ... if you can get that great ... if not then you'll have to lower it a bit ... but don't ask for a buyer to pay all the fees for you using PayPal to get your money faster ... and don't try to profit farther by saying add 3.5% or even see add 4% then pay shipping ...

It also irks me when people say “PayPal G&S - I will eat the fees.”

Even though I typically write in my sale threads - DELIVERED PRICE ..... ALL INCLUSIVE using PP G&S , it amazes me how often I am asked if the PP fees are included in my price. I can understand someone writing "I will eat the fees" because as much as we like to think that BF members are above average intelligence and worldly in so many good ways - there are some who have slipped on the dock and bumped their heads. :( :D

Don't let them irk you Odog27 - those sellers are just anticipating the next question.

Couple comments:
On the PP G&S I pay the fees. I use it. It isn't to brag, but to clarify. There are so many buyer pays the fees ads if using G&S out there that some are not sure what their final price really is going to be. I want every buyer looking at my ad to be sure what I am expecting to be paid. If all understood I would save the typing. I don't want to annoy anyone looking at my ads, so if you can come up with a better way I will be glad to consider it.
On PP F&F for seller protection. Sounds good, but besides still ripping off PP it is the wrong plan for the wrong situation. On BF chances are extremely low of those type scams. They are going to happen on Ebay type places more often and there you can't use it.

There have been PLENTY of issues of people on BF using F&F and losing money and knives ... it's not an only EBay issue ...

besides it just being a bad idea that sets you up to lose ... it's ripping off PayPal ... and everyone thinks they are a huge business they can get by without my 2.9% ...

now think about this ... howmany states charge less than a 2.9% sales tax? ... most charge at least double that ... and PayPal allows you to reach and sell world wide ...but even if just from US coast to coast ... and you have the money in minutes ... isn't it worth the small fee?

And isn't it worth a smooth transaction with both sides protected worth it?

Sorry but I can't see a leg to stand on for F&F unless it's just that a good friend or family sending you money.

I understand your reasoning. I would guess you accept multiple forms of payment. In that case, the statement makes sense.
I still find it easiest to simply state forms of payment accepted and a TYD price.
