PayPal has frozen our account

I recommend to start posting on “X” in volume. Elon Musk developed PayPal. I suspect that it wouldn’t take long before this issue came to his attention. He might have some thoughts on the issue and some suggestions for PayPal on their policies. Emphasize the impact on small business. As one member of BushcraftUSA (can’t remember who unfortunately) has as his byline: “A rock in the wrong hands killed Abel, a rock in the right hands killed Goliath. It ain’t the rock.” I believe the statistics show that far more people killed or injured by a knife are the “victims of a common kitchen knife.” Just some words from the peanut gallery.

I'd like to offer to be an escrow service of sorts. Nathan can send me all the knives ordered. The customers can send me money via PayPal friends and family, with no notes or mention of knives. I'll make sure everyone gets their knives and I'll forward a cashier's check back to Nathan once a week. Trust me. This will work. Trust me. Again, nothing to worry about. Trust me.

In my experience, sometimes things like this seem like a huge pain in the ass because one has a system that they are comfortable with and it is part of the routine, but it could be a blessing in disguise. If the website is set up correctly it could really streamline Joe’s workload and help everyone at CPK. It could even incorporate point of sale and keep track of what scales were remaining in stock and ect. It can monitor how many knives sold after a drop so no one has to comb through the post to see how many are sold, and when it needs to be locked.

PayPal has frozen our account. Probably because we make knives*.

*shudder, so scary*

We're a big bad scary weapons manufacturer.

Evil incarnate.

I probably pump used transformer oil directly into water aquifers.

And used car batteries into the ocean when I go on vacation.

My favorite meal is panda bear steaks with California Condor eggs.

When I go clubbing, it involves baby seals.

As a weapons manufacturer, we are evil incarnate.

I voted for Cthulhu.

Knives are scary. We all learned that knives are bad in elementary school. And someone at PayPal has determined that it is their corporate moral responsibility to prevent the sale of weapons. Because knives are bad. They learned that in kindergarten. Weapons are bad. So they do not allow the sale of weapons, and knives are included in that definition. It's a wide net, and this wide net includes me.

This isn't going to hurt us. But hot damn it pisses me off.

We're not doing anything illegal or immoral, but we do make knives and it is difficult, as a small business, to make and sell knives because everybody prohibits weapons. As if making and selling weapons is some kind of a moral failing that has to be stopped, similar to selling crack cocaine to children. Which we would never do. "We" excluding Tanto.

All of the materials, including abrasives and carbide, for all of the pre-orders is bought and paid for. We have a really good buffer built up and can go quite a while without processing any additional income while I sort this out. We're fine, but holy crap this could complicate some future sales and this really pisses me off.

We're hardworking Americans, manufacturing here in the United States, and we're treated like lowlifes.

I've processed so many millions of dollars through PayPal over the years without any problems or even a single chargeback. There's never been a single claim against us and we're not a miniscule operation here but they're going to throw that away because some nanny twerp thinks that it's their corporate moral responsibility to prevent people from buying my work. Because they learned in grade school that knives are bad.

Any suggestions for a payment platform we should transition onto?
Welcome to the war .

In order to enslave , they must first disarm .

I had my Stripe account and ability to process payments on my website permanently suspended without notice or any ability to appeal for selling "machetes."

I think we are going to have to move to wire transfers, checks, and money orders in future. Meanwhile you can still buy a machete at Lowes or home depot with a credit card.

And if that should be the case, I will offer to assist with the administration of the site and do some of the grunt work if it would be of use to Nate & Jo.

Quickbooks allows you to send invoices similar to PayPal. You might be able to keep much of your existing processes in place with how you do things, and if you already use Quickbooks for bookkeeping, it might even streamline things a bit.

Alternatively, Square and/or an e-commerce website (Shopify etc) could be used to good effect. If an ape like me can do it, the wizards over there surely can.

How about a Toast account and just change the name of the knives to food items? EDC is a Hamburger. Want crusty Antique scales with that? Cheeseburger. Schmoo on the side? French Fries. 🤪

Don't get me started on the Pizza orders...

Frankly, you guys are in a unique position where you have customers that trust you and know your products very well.

Most businesses rely on a website and third party payment platforms to add a necessary layer of trust between themselves and their customers.

You already have this, you guys worked hard to build and earn this trust. You could simply ask for money orders or direct deposits for your work, and most of your customers would have enough confidence in you to just send the funds and wait for their package to arrive. I don’t really know of any other businesses that could do this (esp with products in your price range).

I’m not suggesting you go that route, but whatever you decide, you have customers who will support you while you figure this out.

I haven't looked into it again in a bit, but Don Trump Jr. was working on a payment processing system according to an interview at shot show. I'm not sure if it's thru grabagun or PublicSquare, but the idea is to create a less "woke" online marketplace.

I see Credova is part of the PublicSquare Holdings umbrella of companies, so maybe that was the platform, but I'm only aware of thay offering financing options vs payment processing. It may be a new feature they're working on.

Other than that, I've heard some people trying Square but I don't know if that's any better.
