PayPal's fee is 2.9% + $.30

I agree, you should not pay more than what PP is getting in fees. What I was saying is you should tell the seller upfront that you will only pay the correct fees, rather then sending less without them agreeing. Just sending less is not correct IMO, but I have never had a problem getting the seller to agree to the correct fees. Many will wave them totally if it is a deal breaker-they aren't that much.

Put another way-if you agree to pay 4% PP fees, you should pay the 4%. Don't agree to pay 4% in the first place.

Gotcha. I never agree to pay 4%. I agree to pay "the fees" so you get "your net price".

I always list my price via PP goods and include all fees and shipping...no guess work needed. I've never really understood why that is sooo difficult for other sellers to do the same  I will continue to use that approach when selling on BF

Good on you for making things simple for yourself and the buyers. I can't understand what the raging fear and difficulty that plagues some people is all about either.

Here is something to think about before you use F&F for purchases as well as sales. Paypal notices this and investigates whether you know it or not. If they see a pattern of sending and receiving money to and from people all over the country or world, they see it and may investigate it whether they inform you or not.

A few years back, Paypal called me to ask about the sender of a F&F payment. Wanted to know how I knew him, how long and if we were related and if it was a purchase. My post (on another forum) stated goods tab only and I pay the fee but it was sent F&F. He thought he was doing me a favor by doing so. Well, both of our accounts got locked and they were in no hurry to unlock them.

I do the same thing. Not like it's hard to figure out what I want, add what PayPal wants and add what usps wants. Makes it alot less error prone and straight up here's my price.

I've had people send me gift payments thinking they were giving me a break. I send it right back and ask for goods.

I do the same...though I've never gotten that explanation on this site (I have elsewhere). Here, just about everybody says it was because that what everybody wants/expects.

If I see f&f listed in the sale, I don't do business with that person. Even if it's just as an option.

If I see any "net to me" stuff I roll my eyes and reconsider doing business with that person.

I always list my price as PP Goods and includes shipping. I also put in parentheses "I pay the fees". One time a new member said he would "take it" on one of my listings and paid PP Goods plus an additional 3% to cover fees. He was thrilled when I refunded the extra 3% (~$14), saying he is used to another forum where everything is listed as net. He also appreciated my honesty.

I just copied and pasted this from my latest sale. I always use this
I PAY PAYPAL FEES (GOODS AND SERVICES ONLY) AND USPS FIRST CLASS SHIPPING CONUS
If a thread states Net to me or F&F or xxx% I simply pass most likely another like knife will become available somewhere down the road. To me these type sellers are just dishonest or uninformed. If they are willing to steal from paypal for a few dollars more with the F&F option IMO they are willing to lie to me about a knife.

I use to charge for Paypal fees ($2.9% + $0.30) until I saw another forum post new rules about how it's a "seller's fee" and not a buyer's fee. To this day, I made sure the payment is always received as goods so the buyer does not lose buyer's protection. I sometimes ask the buyer to split the fees with me but emphasize they are not obligated to do so. This also protects you from getting in trouble with Paypal for bypassing their gift feature. I have refunded a few gifted payments only to have the buyer resend it as goods. I'm paying the extra fees to receive this convenient payment. I hope everyone will do this as well. As for the ridiculous Paypal % that I've been seeing lately, I made it a game with my friend to see what the highest % we can find. We don't complain to the buyer either if we're interested in the item. We just simply skip the sale.

I like when someone buys one off the exchange then lists it for what they paid but wants you to cover the fees when he didn't.

Hey Joe!
Best one I saw was a guy selling a beat up sprint run Para 2 here for $500 + 6% PP fees. Thought that one was a bit insane!! Would love to know how these sellers come up with this garbage.

Net to me, F&F etc......I will pass every time......period. As soon as I pass someone else comes along and gladly pays a fee they should never have to pay.
As long as there are buyers willing to pay it this will never stop.
Joe

It's become so common, that more and more newer sellers are just assuming F&F payment the appropriate thing to do. I bought an item from one seller who wanted friends and family payment, and I explained to him that I'd only pay goods. He didnt even know what buyer protection was or why goods should be used; he was just accustomed to seeing F&F so thats what he listed on his sale thread. After explaining the difference he was happy to take the goods payment. Some people just honestly don't know. I don't think leaving the issue unaddressed is necessarily a good thing--it just allows poor business practices the opportunity to proliferate.

You are unfortunately correct Randy.

I just wonder why the Forum doesn't make it a condition of sales that everybody must use the goods option, no % additions, no ambiguity.

Regards, Will

Also, if you use USPS Priority Small Flat Rate box, you don't have to restrict it to 48 states. It's the same rate to all 50.
