Darndest thing. When I first got my Hornet I put a good edge on it and for the life of me I can't get the thing to take another. I would think with the small flat edge it would be easy to lay it on a stone and find the angle and sharpen it right up but no matter how much I run it over the stone it doesn't make any difference. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Did you try the Sharpie trick? If you put some on the edge, you can tell if your angle is correct.

I did try that. I guess I can keep doing it to make sure but I've never not been able to make at least some progress on the edge. I even carefully freehanded on my worksharp and couldn't get anywhere.

I need to get one of those KME sharpeners.

My Yuma is the same way, I can't get a really good edge on it for the life of me! I've tried everything. Donno...

Well, I dont have a problem getting them or keeping them sharp. But, I kinda have it down pat. My edges are my edges. Unless otherwise specified, I put Todd Hunts edge on them, not MM or Bighosses. So, if theres a certain angle you want that your trying to achieve and its not already on the knife you might be screwin it up all the more. The problem with custom knives sometimes is people dont realize if there made and heat treated correctly, even under excessive use, you shouldnt have to fool with the edge for a long time. For example, if you open a letter with your new knife and then you take it to a stone, you are probably screwing up your edge unless you are repeating the exact angle that already exists.

With my necker the problem I was having was that I wasn't hitting a consistent angle. So I had about 3-5 bevels in the edge.

This.

On the tail end of a 15 hour drive, not fun, we just got out of Knoxville ok but my mom was driving when this asshat in front of us throws something out if his window at our car then zooms away, no damage that we can tell but we'll see when we stop

The issue I ran into was after using the Magua, and my Daizee blades enough to dull them I wasn't able to put "that" edge back on them so I had to reprofile to a "Jared's edge" on them. And I did, based a lot on what the knife was going to be used for. The big daizee blade went on at an 20 degree angle, the small daizee at a 17 degree, and the Magua in between.

What was thrown from the window? Usually it's a trash bag. Unless there was a decisive thud when it hit, I'd say don't worry about it.

I don't mean to imply that I think the problem is with the knife. I managed to get hair shaving edges on the Hornet and Magua when I first got them and I was a bit bewildered that I couldn't repeat that.

I apologize in advance if this offends anybody. I NEVER kill something just for the sake of killing unless its a nuisance animal. Around here, Robins are just that, they run everything off of the bird feeders and are kinda the bullies of the winged world, at least in my neighborhood they are, anyway, I been shooting slingshot a lot lately. I told myself I would get me a really good slingshot when I could actually hit something with the cheapos. I've gotten to the point I can hit a paper plate 9 out of 10 times from 25 paces with a decent pattern. Today I got my very first kill. This shot was right through the head and the shot was exactly 19 paces. Think I might look into a better slingshot. Anybody got any advice?

Robins are the state bird of Michigan......

Nope, there is a youtube channel of a dude in Sweden or Denmark or some crap shooting slingshots and he is pretty damned impressive too.

That was a pretty good shot there Todd.

Yeah theres no problem BH, I didnt take it that way, my point is sometime people dont understand that sharpening isnt as easy as people think and sometimes do more damage than they do good. Not insinuating you or MM dont know what your doing. You both bought those knives used. But if the edges need attention, send them to me and I will get them back to there original glory.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the edge, other than being as dull as the guy trying to sharpen it. I'm close to pulling the trigger on a KME diamond kit to compensate. The River offered another trial prime membership which means free two-day shipping.

Yeah, so, I wont shoot one in Michigan.

It doesn't mean you can't. I think technically the bald eagle is the only one you shouldn't kill. And if you can kill an eagle with a slingshot, you need to get yourself a chick cause you have WAY too much time on your hands!

I think the state bird of Missouri is the skeeter. Those freaking things, will swipe a kid off the porch and drain them like an ex-wife!

Ive had my Yuma since before Christmas and I have not touched the edge once. Its processed wood, notched, carved and feathered and its still sharp. It may not shave or cut paper but it cuts wood and cord and any other outdoor task just fine. I think sometimes we get too concerned that are edges arent always shaving sharp that we do more damage than good (I included myself because I am guilty of it too....just not my Yuma because I stink at sharpening and I dont want to mess it up:D)
