I have found what i concider to be the perfect survival gun (for now). The other day a buddy wanted me to try his Smith and Wesson Govenor it is a great improvement to the Taurus Judge. It is a six shot revolver on light weight material that will accomadate many different calibres.
  • 45 long colt
  • 410 shotgun
  • 45 acp with moon clips
  • 45 win mag
  • and 454 casull (for the insane)
I have shot all calibres listed above except 454. I found the gun to be very accurate. It is a vast improvement to the Taurus. I found that it functioned flawlesly with all aformentiond ammos.
It is a weapon that you can use to hunt small game, large game, dangerous preadtors of the 2 and 4 legged kind.

I will be carring this revolver with my tomahawk, BK2 and Bk5 on my quest to prove Bigfoot is real.

I watched a video on gunblast demonstrating that pistol. Wow. I want one.

no this one is supposed to be loud and menacing i want a rail on it so i can put my BK9 on it like a bayonet

Much better then the judge! Good Choice. You can feel the quality difference between the two.

The only judge I would buy is the circuit judge, check it out if you haven't seen one.

That S&W is a nice looking gun, I really like the idea of the Rossi Circuit Judge. I don't know anyone who owns a rossi or a tarus (rossis parent comapny) so I cant really speak on quality. but i like the idea of having a long gun that can fire .410 and 45 long colt.

I also really like the idea of a Springfield m6 (.410 and .22 cal)

What makes a gun a "survival gun"? Most of my shooting has been with long rifles or semi-auto pistols; never shot a revolver before.

Very good question, when I think survival gun I think of the gun I would choose to sustain myself out in the wild and use it to obtain food and for self defense. However depending the "survival" situation my choice of gun could change drastically.

Agreed. The gun I choose to run out in the woods with will be different from the one I choose for being stuck in the city.

For me the gun has to be reliable, easy to field strip no tools required, common caliber, easy to carry and it would be nice to be able to take small to medium sized game. Don't forget about the noise factor too. A lot of people would choose an AR but one shot from that and everyone within a 10 mile radius will know your there.

this revolver is not perfect for everything but this revolver is great for all things i was shooting clay pigeons with it then changed to 45 colt and was shooting a paper plate putting all six in it at 50 yards it has the small game capabilites of the 410 and also lager jobs with other calibres. dont get me wrong a long gun would be better but i can carry this on my belt which is a big thumbs up to me for every day and those aw craps we might get into.

This revolver will digest a wide variety of ammo that can be aquired at any hardware store and wally world did i mention it is very lightweight

Everyone has to determine their load out for their needs and AO - so the following is my $0.02, YMMV...

I am not at all sold on the concept of these guns, regardless of manufacturer. In almost any situation, I would take a dedicated 45LC pistol than one with a 410 hybrid chamber. Hunting small game with a 410 shotgun with a 26" barrel sucks, much less with the loss in velocity and pattern from a pistol.

For urban survival situations, I like the Glock19 as a great blend of power, concealment and capacity.

In the woods, for survival, it is very tough to beat the 22LR - you can carry a couple hundred rounds in your pocket. While it is not great against large animals, I doubt there is any animal on the planet that has not been killed with one.

I generally approve of everybody's choice in a firearm but seems like I read somewhere credible that the effective range of 410 from a 2 1/2 barrel was like ten feet. fwiw. Great snake gun but picking squirrels out of a tall oak may be a bit of a trick. I can see a lot of value in bouncing from 45acp (town) to 45lc (field). Again, fwiw;)
