Perfect Survival Gun

Ammo for a bow is as infinite as the woods, and free. a bow is a wonderful thing.
The English longbow was the most feared ranged weapon in the world for a very very long time.

the gun you have with you when you need it for survival is your survival gun :)

those folding sling shots could be very useful, but you'd want non-rubber tubing for long term storage (dry rot).

something small, that you could put in an otter box, that doesn't need any maintenance to work anywhere from tomorrow to a year or five...

which is why a knife is great for BOBs. they just work :)

make a spear.

make some traps.

steal a gun later from the zombies...

MOSIN NAGANT!!

Jk, I'm sure a 10/22 would be great, don't have one yet. YET. The gun you have with you is pretty handy though, gotta say.

wait, how do you manage .22LR in that?

also, from reading the specs, the circuit judge requires a choke to be "effective" with .410 shot, which much be removed when switching up to other types of ammo. that seems like it could be a pain, esp if you forget.

survival gun. well, how should that be defined? something to help you survive. doesn't have to be pretty, or 100% accurate, but it does have to be rugged, simple, and always work. to survive. not revel in 20 point elks, or take down any land animal, or for that matter, even large game. towards that end, a rugged .22LR or even .22WMR would be just fine, i should think. depending on your survival situation, you might not even NEED a gun. traps, snares, or even nothing but water for 5 days until you get out. longer? well, there's a certain point it's not survival, and then you make other plans (esp if say, everyone turned zombie ;>)

that said, i'd think a pistol of some kind, would be ideal. .22WMR pistol will knock a lot of meat off trees. so will .22LR. those henry survival rifles would be just lovely, i should think; or a pistol you can put a stock on. mmm.

a very small, bolt action .22LR probably would be super ideal. make it stainless or titanium, with a lot of polymer synthetic bits, and now we're talking.

the m6 is pretty dandy, i must say.

Did you not click on the link? It shows how you can shoot .22mag or LR.

Btw, I'm not a big fan of that PMR30 pistol, but I'd love to have the little carbine version. I saw it in the Keltec SHOT show video last year. Looks awesome.

i didn't see anything pertinent?

'''The new Circuit Judge takes the most overwhelmingly successful revolver in recent history and has extended its range for incredible hunting and shooting. Now you can fire .410 GA. 3-inch Magnum shotshells, .410 GA. 2.5-inch shotshells and .45 Colt ammunition. In any order you please, without switching barrels. The Circuit Judge delivers amazing versatility, accuracy and simplicity. It includes the latest in modern features like a red fiber optic front sight, yoke detent, transfer bar and the Taurus Security System®.'''

was trying to figure out how .22 or .22WMR can go through a .410 barrel well?

making of tutorial?
Agreed, I would like to know more about this thing myself. I like the idea, and I'm pretty sure based on the picture that I have plenty of raw materials laying around to make one. Could be the perfect solution to a number of problems. Any idea what kind of FPS you get?

So you're going to carry:

45 long colt
.410
45 acp
45 win mag
and 454 casull

No thanks..

I would rather have a Glock19 or SU-16c

That was the 1st gun i bought for my daughter. Full camo-stock,barrel,trigger,scope. She LOVES it. Super accurate. After i sighted it in on Christmas day about 4-5 years ago, she punched out the entire center of the target in 30 rds.

Prioritize this - you will never regret buying a 10/22. Everyone should have at least one. Then find a local Appleseed shoot and have at it.
It's on the to do list, but really I actually just pack around my mosin when I go shooting. Wouldn't mind something a little lighter though. Maybe after Christmas.

they make a super light version, with non bull barrel and polymer (folding) stock i've seen somewhere. pretty good backpacker.

they ALSO make a version with the full nordic upgrades. i LIKE that a lot. potential for rails == optics. nice. blackdogmachinellc makes some nice magazines and even a 50 round drum for fun. they're very popular, and have been around for a long time. this was my second choice gun... they seem hard to clean though.

my first choice is a SIG522. had everything i wanted. heavy barrel by savage, folding stock, and 25 rounds :) FUN! it's fairly accurate. it's a blast to train with. it eat federal 550 like candy, which is why i store that stuff in a candy bottle :> there's a light, and a heavier model. i prefer the heavy one (full rail for optics). this model breaks down like its big brother 556, or similarly to cousins like the AR15 (and is a good trainer for those). upper is all metal. lower is polymer. two pins. wicked pissah easy to strip, clean, and deal with. plus it uses standard ar15.22 magazines (blackdog), so you could use those in many other guns as well. standards we like.

for SURVIVAL? well, i'd want my savage 22. 1-2 inch groups at 100 yds. that means meat in the pot every shot when it counts. pretty much.

after that? well, there's some amusing and fun 22s in various dollar amounts from low to high.

survival is about having SOMETHING. might as well be the something you have, know, and like :)

Since you're talking guns in this thread, would anyone recommend a .22 as a survival gun? Why or why not? What is the reputation of .22?
