Petition for an online induction of new Hogs!!!!

I think it should stay the way it is. A true HOG will make his way to wherever it's happening. I'll be at blade this year eagerly awaiting the ceremony...

I don't want this new induction to cheapen the real induction.

Sorry guys this is just the way I feel, winners find a way.

Since I've been here I get the feeling that if the man didn't touch you himself, nobody's going to give you credit for it anyway.

Whatever is decided can it happen after all that can make it to this year's induction ceremony make it?

I'm with Breavis on this one. If someone can't make it to Blade because it costs too much to go or has scheduling conflicts this year, but at the same time says they're qualified because of their extensive Busse collection, sell some knives to pay for your trip or make plans for the following year. We know the schedule well in advance, so if it can't be this year or the next, maybe the one after that. One FFBM pays for round trip flights and the hotel. :) I know not everyone can make it (which sucks) but sometimes things just suck.

I've never been to Blade and don't post a lot on here simply because you all know more about knives than I do and I don't like to talk unless I know what I'm talking about (although I am on this Forum everyday multiple times a day), but when I get to the point where I feel like I'm worthy of the club, I'll make my way to Blade and make my case and hopefully get inducted in person surrounded by the rest of the Hogs and their families who attended the show that year. If this internet induction becomes a thing I'll sit it out and wait for the real deal. To each their own and I'm not knocking anyone who wants the internet induction, just stating my opinion.

Breavis, I whole heartedly agree with ya. Bring on the INFI !!

I agree with Breavis, UNRL, and Bullpin.

I am not a HOG, but I realize that becoming a HOG is all for fun, and of course everyone wants to be a part of the "in" crowd. That being said, I really hope that if it becomes an online thing that the requirements are quite demanding. My impressions of the HOG's are that they are long time Busse supporters that are quite knowledgeable, they likely have a pretty big collection, and they got to bond with the Busse family at a show like Blade. If it becomes something you can beg your way into or just by buying a couple custom shop pieces to guarantee entry, then it does change my view of HOG status. That's okay too though, HOG status should be what Jerry wants it to be. This is not my house, and no disrespect is intended here, it's just my $0.02.

Perhaps some of you have missed the point that I implied in my earlier post so I'll spell it out. The people that can take the time and spend the $ to travel to Blade and/or Knob Creek get to not only enjoy the show, meet Jerry and crew and hang out & party with them but are also are further rewarded for their devotion and efforts with the opportunity to participate in a live version of a Ganza. Limited (very limited) numbers of all kinds of Busse blades, from old releases to new models, custom shop creations and rare variants are usually available for purchase to those present. Blades not seen for ages or before at all and not currently available anywhere else. Only if there are enough left-overs does Jerry consider offering the rest of us a chance at them with a post-show Ganza(aaaaaa). Blade itself has, in the past, been when and where new HOGs enjoy (endure ?) the induction ceremony and it is a small but significant part of this whole experience.
To date, the sole privilege afforded me for my 8+ years as a "net-HOG" on-line (honorary) inductee was the opportunity to buy (for a very nice price) a special HOG Edition ASH 1 when they came out. The catch being that I first had to buy at least one ASH 1 CG and one ASH 1 LE (or 2 ASH 1 LEs). Lets tot that up, shall we? The Cg + LE + HOG path cost me 297 + 497 + 167 + S/H for a total of $1005. WOO HOO, don't I feel special. I had already bought the CG and LE versions as released and jumped at the chance for the HOG version.
Certainly not an unhappy camper but my point is this. Those of you that go to the shows can have all those wonderful opportunities previously mentioned and who deservedly and proudly hold the title of HOG should view HOGdom for what it is: a largely symbolic memento of your actual, live in-person experiences at shows, with fellow HOGs and Jerry and crew. We who must settle for the on-line version can only imagine what we miss out on but we can be as interested in and informed about the knives and the shenannigans here at Jerry's asylum for INFImaniacs as those that travel and, in some cases, more so.
It should be no hide off of the snouts that some of you use to look down on on-line inductees to let us call ourselves HOGs. See HOGdom for what it is: an open declaration of a strong interest in Busse Combat in all of its manifestations, warts and all. (Yes, even you, Bravado.)

Agreed

Wow that's a great idea. ..I've always thought I'd make it to a show but I'm cash poor because of Busse and kin. Count me in. ...please!

Also. Family responsibilities. I've got my share with a 1 year old and another over 1/3 of the way cooked. I certainly know that you have yours Kniferman. ;)

Just because we can't finagle our way out of responsibilities to the ones we care about, doesn't mean that we shouldn't have a chance to be part of the club. Right?

You do not have to own lots of Busses to be a hog. It's never been about who has what. It's always been about hanging with the group and making the pilgrimage to one of the events and not necessarily blade east. It cheapens being a hog when anyone can get it on line. That is my opinion.

That has always been my view of hogdom. The hanging out and appreciating the Blades. Both sides of this issue are valid. I'm too much of a noob here to say how things ought to be done. Jerry, if you're reading this, you lead.... We'll follow. No bad feelings....... No regrets.

Definitely no hard feelings on the subject. Either way, anyone who spends most or all of their time on this forum is one of US.

Short, simple and well said. I would agree with your opinion...pastor Cobalt:D

As always, its Jerry's show so he can set the rules.

Are You A HOG?. . . .

. . . Well, I suppose that anything is possible!!!

As we prepare for the intro of the ASH 1 we find ourselves struggling to define the term HOG. . .

Being an inducted HOG will definitely have its benefits. . ..

Could it be that merely having an affection and small collection of Busse Blades makes you a HOG?

Could it be that everyone who owns at least one Busse Combat blade has a little bit of HOG in him or her?

Should we set parameters on the number or value of someone's collection in order to reach Hogdom?

Should there be several different levels of Hogdom such as "Piglet", "Oinker", "Alpha Boar", and "Old Guard HOG"???. . . .

Can I ever be drunk enough to figure this out on my own?

Oink at me Hogs. . . . tell me what you think!

I should be good and hammered by tomorrow night when I finally come to a decision. . . .

Let's drink!

Why do you let what others do or don't do effect how you feel about yourself? You are no less a HOG simply because others who refer to themselves as such have not been able to experience all that you have. You have not just been to shows but also to Fogos and drank, smoked cigars and shot the breeze with the man himself. You and others like you are all the more HOG for your experiences. Senior HOGs, Uber-Hogs, Master Hogs, whatever you want to call yourselves.
I've made no secret of the fact that I am an on-line inductee, its in my sig line and I doubt that you or anyone would dare argue otherwise with Amy-0 herself bestowing said "honor" upon me. I am all too aware of all of the things that I would like to do and have not yet done for one or more of the myriad reasons that life can trouble one with. I do not feel diminished simply because you have done more. You need not feel diminished simply because I have not been able to do more. Its entirely up to you.

I did not realize this would become so debated,

Maybe an online induction should be less than hog status, so the ones who have made the journey do not feel cheapened, but also the piglets who have fought hard to feed at the trough still get a little status boost.

No matter how this goes down, let's remember that we are all brothers in INFI here. Many of us have similar interests in general, but we all have a love of high quality steel. I would be honored to have a beer with anybody here!
