Petition for an online induction of new Hogs!!!!

But my question to all of you is, if we are all one big family and all having a good time here, what is it that being inducted over the internet will get you?

It got me a very nice HOG Edition ASH-1 for $167. Other than that, I don't see where being an "inducted" hog, whether online or in person, would get me anything in particular.

Thanks Tim, great posting. I am planning a visit to one of the blade shows eventually. Not sure when, but I will make to one. Even if I have to have my ashes sent via UPS lol.

I am simply a piglet and wouldn't want to be inducted to HOGdom online. Seems cheap and cheeeesey

Awesome post btw AZTimT

Paul, I didn't mean any offense in my statement. I haven't checked this all day and come back to a fecal firestorm....

HOGS are people with INFI in their souls....period. I've not been inducted but can't wait for the opportunity however it comes.

I will do as instructed by Jerry, again no hard feelings

So here is my story. I purchased my first Busse in California at the gun show in 1996. I didn't know anything about busse and didn't know busse. I ordered my first new Busses from Busse in 1998. I still did not realize that Busse was as tough as they turned out to be much later. I received those Busses sometime in early 1999. They were all INFI. Myself, Cliff, all the original Knife forums members moved over to the newly created Bladeforums in 1998 but we were posting on both forums for much longer. Because of work, and hardships I did not have the time to go to Atlanta for Blade. I did not go until 2006. I was inducted then. A full 8 years after I got my first Busse from Busse. All those previous years of me using Busse knives and posting on the forums, of me doing stuff with my SHBM's and not being a hog, Did I care? nope. Did I care that there was people who had gotten into Busses well after me and became hogs before me? nope. Do I feel for those who have not been inducted and want to be? nope, not at all. Do I care if Busse hands out internet inductions, nope, not at all. It is what it is.

The fact is I like everyone on this forum and enjoy being here. I think we have the best group of knife nuts who are all just good people. At the end of the day we are all here for the same reason. Many of you newer guys know way more than I do about the modern Busses and I like that.

But my question to all of you is, if we are all one big family and all having a good time here, what is it that being inducted over the internet will get you? Would it not make you feel better to work towards the goal of one day meeting Busse and the group. Of working towards that goal of being inducted at the show? Doesn't that sound like a fun goal? It may take you 8 years but one day it may happen and what a cool way for it to happen. I have always felt that when it is hard to earn something it makes it that much more meaningful.

Just my 2 cents on it.

I certainly appreciate the clarification. :foot:

I showed a pic & got a pic with a title, nothing more. ;) Edit: Not true, there was a discount on HOG Muk's, sorry I forgot that part. :o

Got one of those back in 2009, except with no discount,,, :)

HOGDOM???????

We are all here because we love the knives:thumbup:

The Busse Family, The Busse Crew....all great people with high standards and customer service.........they love what they do and its infectious.

The Busse Forum.......a family of noobs, piglets, sows, Hogs, BOARS, Feral HOG......you name it ...... all milling around this soupy trough we call the internet.......dysfunctional at times but all brought together over a common interest.

So for those unable to attend Blade or other regional get-together, and you want the Mantra of HOG/HOGGETTE " your name here".........I'm all for inclusion to tighten the bond as a nethog.

BUT, as we all know.........there is a lot to be said for getting out from behind the keyboard and putting a face....a voice....a handshake to our online persona and screen name.

A Nethog will never be complete till he SHAKES THE MAN'S HAND. I would highly encourage everyone to take that journey. Come hang out:D

....Nice to see another BG fan here..... One of the finest series that I've ever seen:thumbup:

I was around for the original as a youngin' but the remake was much better... After the miniseries & "33", I was totally hooked. Still a favorite. :)

I apparently was unaware of this hog induction ceremony... not my cup of meat at this point (and I most definitely don't have enough Bussekin), but good luck to everyone else!

My pic is in your post George, I'm famous! :D

Yup..... I was around back then too. I liked the show well enough then, but didn't think that I'd appreciate a remake. I'm glad that I gave it a chance. Intelligent TV show....

Being a Hog is cool. I may never get to a blade show. I may never be inducted a Hog. I have been playing with Busse knives 10 plus years. I have some great Busse knives and I love them. Life is a journey, not a title. Enjoy it. That is all.

Finally got back to the general idea. Being a HOG is an attitude. You are one, label or not, if you are an INFImaniac like most of those on this forum.

Cobalt,
My apologies if you felt that my comments were directed at you personally. Not my intent. Just generally tired of all those that seem to rub my snout in things I haven't been able to do yet like get to a show. Perhaps I'm overly sensitive to what I perceive as ridgidity and intolerance. Rumor has it I can actually be a decent sort of fellow. Some things just rub me the wrong way, I take exception to them, and don't always take the time to cover all the points that I need to.
I should have taken the time to state that your post that I used as a soap box for my last mini-rant was selected as an example of the attitude towards those less fortunate that I disagree with. Nothing personal towards you. Just don't care for even the appearance of that kind of what I see as insensitivity. Mountain? Mole hill? Hard to tell from up close at times.
Pete

Pete, I did take it as directed at me personally. But it is often hard to convey the meaning of typed words. No big deal. I get where you are coming from. The fact is that however someone received their induction doesn't make them any less or more of a hog. I will tell you this much, however, everyone at some point should try to make blade. It is the most fun you have had and totally worth the expense.

As if everything people have mentioned isn't enough reason to go to blade this year, to really put it over-the-top,,,anyone who has been on this forum for the last year will know what I am talking about.
Sounds like someone might be interested in stepping up to the plate and accepting the challenge that Jerry put forth so many years ago.

Hey George!

I agree with your point about meeting folks in person. The internet swallows humanity. It is all too easy to lose one's identity in this faceless modern wonder

Connecting with people is the important thing.

What do you do when you don't have a "ON-LINE PERSONA" or a "FORUM SCREEN NAME"?

To me, a title of any kind is earned by deed. But I guess it is up to Team Busse to decide what deeds are worthy.

Whomever has the title of HOG deserves the respect they've been awarded.
