I've been digging around for some catalogs also

They are buried in my book case

You guys are on it :)

I'm excited to see them

You guys should send them all to me so that I can make a video :)

I am sure we can make that happen. I am gonna take a group shot of the knives, and if everyone else is game I can send them your way to check out.

Yup. Awesome idea. I'm in, as soon as I can get my skinny ass off this roof and finish the knife!

Blade just exited the final tempering cycle. I've got to get the roof on while the weather holds, though... Bear with me, gang!

I can't finish mine til next week Matt, so no hurry. Fix that roof!

I'll probably make two sheath options. Most of my customers like standard kydex on a knife this size, but I know how you roll Joe. ; )

You know how Joe rolls because he knows what he wants, what he is doing, and has separated meh, from awesome!

It was the knife and the sheath work that made Phill's knives special.

Kydex wasn't around when he started.

A kydex sheath from someone like Bud Nealy or R.J. Martin is not the average kydex...that alone is something to take into consideration.

Rise above, otherwise, you are Ben Average.

I flippin' HATE kydex, but some knives like neck knives, or shuriken kind of need it, and when the need is there, Kiah Stinson has never disappointed...dude should teach classes, for realz!!

STeven Garson

I'm hear you Steven. And Joe is Awesome.
Properly done kydex makes a lot of sense in certain situations, and I like it for users. It's tough and easy to clean, as well as not trapping grit or moisture against the blade. Like leather or lined sheaths can do.
I try to accommodate most sheath requests to tailor it to the users needs.
I have a couple ideas I will try for these.

Ask Bob Dozier about Kydex. Bob kinda likes it.
rolf

Bob Dozier had a meltdown at some point around the late '80's, early '90's.

He decided to champion kydex, black micarta and D2..decided to come up for air...showed up at the OKCA Show around 1994 with a boatload of very simple knives for $200.00 or so, my business partner and I gave him a ride to the show because he didn't have a car, and the Valley River Inn was quite a ways from the show.....we purchased 8 knives from him and sold them at our shop in about 2 months......

They are NOT concealable/carryable in the way Joe discusses it Rolf, he is promulgating a much larger knife.....need I take this to the NEXT level of diatribe?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I like kydex ..... With a liner and wrapped in leather :)

Yes kydex has a place ...... Fishing knives :)

Only playing :)

But seriously Phill's metal leather covered sheaths are so superior compared to a kydex sheath they are not even in the same league

RJ's are very well done also

I prefer the letter lined kydex he made me over the wood carbon one even thou the latter is a work of art and the leather kydex a work of functional art

Seriously the sheath is so important to make this genre knife truly be at its best it's ........ As important as the knife

For me and I hope no one takes this in a negative way plain kydex is something I would never carry ....unless I was fishing :)

I don't care for kydex or plastic gun holsters either

They don't carry well and bend around your body

They mare finishes

And they tear my clothes and leather car seats up

A quality fitted and formed holster like this one from SideGuard Leather for me is so superior to a kydex one I can't put it into words

I agree with everything you said Joe, and now that we've alienated ourselves with every kydex bender on BFC. :)
Also agree with the sheath being half the battle.

RJ's kangaroo covered and lined kydex sheaths are a marvel, in and out with no marks or marring.
I would love to see an ostrich covered version.
Seems like there's a business in there for someone.

Doug we are not alienating ourselves with anyone ......... We did that years ago :)

I think it's more like encouraging

People do not know what they don't know

Most knife people are not exposed to really good sheaths

If they are coming from the production world it was nonexistent

Most people like big knives in danglers which should prove my point :)

Don't get me wrong folks kydex has its place ....its just not my first choice in quality carry pieces

Kydex when used like RJ does is a great way to go about a great sheath

The way I look at it since the chisel grind make these quicker to build they can put more time in sheaths :)

Bah!

If your kydex scratches it is either dirty or not made correctly :) Sand in a lined sheath can be a nightmare:mad:

I made this one and am not looking forward to making another, it works great but was super tricky to get right

That is awesome

Love it

It's not that they scratch...they just don't do it for me

What you posted does :)
