I think this is my only example of GEC-made red saw-cut. I've carried it very little, so can't really speak to how it ages with pocket carry

I may be in the anti-red camp for this forum knife, but I do envy you that knife. Someday I would love to have a TC Barlow one-arm, and I'd even be happy with it in red. Thanks for posting that pic!

All kidding aside, Mass1632 Mass1632 , K Kiteman72 , the yellowing is not caused by a lack of care or improper maintenance, (as is the case concerning Mr. Powers' teeth). Plain undyed bone just yellows with age. In fact, handling and oiling will speed up the process. It will become noticeable within months and cannot be prevented. Brass liners and pins only make it worse. Either you like this look or you don't, but the knife will not look new and clean for very long.

(Not sure why my text wants to be in between the quotes but it doesnt matter much)

Hey now, not fun to pick holes in propaganda… facts get in the way. Now back to more propaganda..

if you choose red you may end up with pink or black. Lots want black cherry and lots want elderberry. The deep red options will be split and well end up either black or pink.

I very much like how white bone evolves with use and time - I am not opposed to that option at all. In fact, it would be my second choice.

With regards to red sawcut examples and seeing one that has been loved, used, and cared for (not at all mint or pristine), I offer up my 2018 NF Barlow. I don't think the coloring has changed a whole lot, other than mellowing out some with time and use but I also included a pic from when I received it new below. (@tmd_87 also has an excellent example of one that he has most definitely put to use)

On that we can agree.
You have extremely good luck with Red. I don't.

(I don't want this to continue as an argument so I hope you won't take my next comments as such.)

I have been fortunate, yes. However, I did receive an 85 Crown Lifter that is quite pink around the edges but it met my expectations based on the type of bone it is. Like yours, my Elderberry 77 was a hot pink mess and was my first experience with Camel Bone - it got moved down the road to someone who appreciated that hue more than I. If either of those bones had been selected for our forum knife, I would very firmly be in the "No Red" camp.

I approach any upcoming GEC run with red bone with a bit of caution, especially after the 2018 85s. I passed on the Blood Red 29s because of the dyeing fears but I've scooped up all the red sawcut I could without any issues.

I have yet to see a Red Sawcut knife that GEC has produced look like a strawberry. If there are members here who have such examples (red sawcut that whitens or is pink), I would like to see them - it could go a long way towards bringing some further nuance this discussion.

I know GEC is still capable of good saturation with their red dyes - the recent Blood Red 62s (which I thought originally were supposed to be Elderberry) turned out great! Still not enough for me to have full confidence in future jigged bone runs but it's encouraging nonetheless.

With Red, the Forum Knife could get the Swiss Army Look.....😏 noting wrong with that as such if you like anonymous🤓

Whereas Brown is the safe, unoriginal, nannyish choice for those who cannot dream or dare 😩

Ivory for adventurers and those with charisma  Green and Rotten Banana are thinking choices too but they need to come to the light, White Light/White Heat as the Velvet Underground said.....

I still think rotten banana would give us something unique for a forum knife that we are very unlikely to see with the upcoming releases, as opposed to red and brown which are very, very likely. And it looks fantastic.

Having said that, I can see the writing on the way-behind wall with that one!

My original preference was smooth ivory bone, and I’m definitely in the anything-but- red camp here, so I’ll most likely redirect my vote later to something with a chance to head off the reds. Both of the 85s that I had were far more in the pink end of the spectrum than red, and I think we’re headed for a train wreck on the delivery if red wins out (granted, Dylan posted a very nice array of blood red earlier in the thread).

Still pulling for a miraculous banana comeback in the meantime!
Exactly. Why not go with some colors that will make the BF knife unique? Don’t get me wrong all the colors are great (except red 😉) and I’ll be happy with whatever gets the win but White and Yellow colors would be very unique for a BF knife which should be a unique knife IMHO.

Yellow has my vote with white as a second option and brown as a third option.

I think if we choose white or yellow we’re very likely to see the other colors made by GEC. Just my thoughts.

Winner winner chicken dinner! This would be the best fit for the BF 86's with those crazy awesome bolsters.

This color would be perfect! Markeologist Markeologist , does the tube state the name GEC chose for this shade of beautiful RED? Looks to have a slight bit of purple added to it. No pink at all. Couldn’t be better.
Here you go. Note; however, that cap says 153215CL although blade is stamped 152214CL. GEC’s production totals refer to as a 152214CL but they mislabel as “jig” bone. Cap is one that came with knife as there are no other blood red BSKs besides these three…you can see standard 2015 BSK/153215CLs also listed below.

There, that looks better. I fixed it for you Mr. Kiteman72. 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪
If Blood Red was a lock, I'd be all for it! But Black Cherry is the big Spoiler!

We won't end up with pink, we all have more sense than that, we'll end up with a Black handled knife that is purple at the edges, hey wait, that actually sounds pretty sweet, I think I would go with Black Cherry! 😁

But really, nice mellow White can be all things to all people! Look at r8shell r8shell 's sweet, Recent examples posted!

I wouldn’t call plain undyed bone safe or classy, unless you like yellowed.... ...Plain undyed bone just yellows with age. In fact, handling and oiling will speed up the process. I've been saying undyed bone since the cover material poll. I like the look. (I've been pleasantly surprised to see other people joining in)

I know its too late and charlie has done a amazing and stressful job even in the organizing of these polls. Tough to appease the masses and all. But…. Kinda possibly woulda coulda been nice to have polls for what the red option were to be and also a poll for what the brown option would be. If black cherry won the red option, maybe less people would vote for the red option. Same can be said for brown. At the same time maybe less would vote in the red poll if they were adamant in their brown choice. After red wins, theyd be upset they skipped that red poll. There is no winning on organizing these polls for sure. And i over think everything… kindly disregard this…
