Pics and first impressions of the Lahar

Whenever Thomas has mentioned the limited numbers that will be produced, he always qualifies it with "this year". So it sounds like it will stay in the line up, though I suppose it'll ultimately depend on how many we buy. Hopefully Thomas, Tif, or Tim will chime in with the info.

I see that it is a limited production. Are these going to stay in the lineup, or are they a one time "sprint" run?
I can see the Lahar being in the 08 line-up, although we have yet to make that determination. If it does make the cut, it will be limited to 1000-1500 pieces annually.

make it with a diferent color G-10 for 2008 please! like blue!

That looks awesome. The handle looks very ergonomic. For those that have one, does it feel as good as it looks? A clip point recurve to boot. I've gotta get me one of those.

Yes, it does feel as good as it looks. :D If they are in the 08 line up I will get another one next year.

I ordered one today from www.toptexknives.com

I can't wait to get it. I like g-10, VG-10 steel, and clip point recurves. I do not like assisted opening knives. This one looks to fit the bill.

The Lahar is a very well made knife, typical of the Japanese attention to detail and high tolerances. My horn wasn't tooted too much by it and personally it falls off to the way side compared to the shadow cast by the JYDII in my opinion. Mostly this was due to the lock thickness difference in the two knives though. What can I say, Kershaw spoiled me with the JYDII and it will be hard to ever look at a knife with less lock the same way again in fair light but overall the Lahar was a good looker, smooth as silk, flawless with a fair grip, and a good looking profile and blade, in a perfect size.

I like the Blur SG2 much better personally, especially when I removed the AO feature and the JYDII stands tall over both of them if you ask me. In fact with a slight improvement to the G10 liner on that JYDII by making the lock accessible to the index finger I think it would be a better folder than most of the frame locks available in production companies everywhere. Its that good.

Other than that the lack of a stud as well as a flipper option for opening, and the pocket clip which I did not care for personally, the JYDII is tops in my opinion for all liner locks that I have seen in my life!

Got mine today. Very nicely done. Fit and finish that I would expect on a more expensive knife.

Are the two steel cylinders emerging from the liners nearest the pivot to help with horizontal blade play?

Had to look at the knife for a bit before I figured out what you were talking about. I believe the two cylinders you refer to are the exposed parts of the blade stop pin. The pin goes through a channel in the blade.

Thanks. The more I carry this knife the more I like it. Kershaw did a great job with this one.

New Lahar in an old thread! I got mine Friday.

The new offering of folders from Kerhaw in the past two years have turned me into a Konvert! I've had this folder on my mind since I got to handle it at Blade.

Great job on a fantastic blade at an unbelievable price. Thanks, guys!

Do you think you could post pics of it next to a JYD II?

it isnt a pic, but the JYD2 and Lahar are pretty much the exact same size. really now diference in that department. the handle is diferent and leans to a dif feel, but overall they are both very comfortable.

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't have a JYD II yet. :(

I've been considering one of the black versions, but the Damascus Leek kinda sidetracked me. (And I need to track down one of the PE Random Leeks too.)

I'll definitely get one of the SG2 Ti versions when they ship.

Kershawguy has a pic with both knives (and pretty much every other Kershaw) in the "Unofficial Kershaw Pictures Thread".

In the fourth pic of his post.

I got mine this week. :) I'm totally satisfied with it - excellent fit'n'finish, crazy sharp edge, grippy handle, flipper - best buy IMO. :)
