That is aged Natural canvas micarta available at USA knifemakers.
These were aged by applying oil to them frequently and repeatedly throughout a 1 year period.
Simple kitchen oils, Veg. oil, canola oil, olive oil....

Just a little stock removal on my Gayle Bradley to access the liner lock when wearing heavy gloves outdoors when working---HUGE improvement :thumbup:.

Nice work! I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my 51. What etchant did you use, and have you found it to affect the corrosion resistance of the D2?

Thanks! I used the PCB etchant from Radioshack that a lot of people use. Ferric chloride. As for corrosion resistance, I couldn't say, since I've just done it.
