Pictures of Ron Newton knives.

Keith that last bowie which was one you used for your avatar is incredible--the detail is enpeckable(sp). Thanks for posting all the great pics of Ron's knives. Can't get enough of looking at beautiful knives:)

All these pics make me wanna call up Ron and bug him about when my 2 knives are going to be done! :)

Keith,

You are slowing down. It has been way too long since we have had a Newton fix. Lets get with the program.

Wow, I'm just checking in this thread for the first time after seeing Roger's Fitch/Newton collab...I have to start paying more attention to Newton...some INCREDIBLE stuff here (and this from a tactical guy)

If you were to see all the pictures in this thread without words and the makers name, you would think it is a portfolio of some of the finest examples of the craft, taken from all kinds of makers.

The fact that they all come from one man, are all unique, and quite exceptional is astounding.

Mr Ron Newton, stand up and take a bow, a truly gifted artist, and exquisite craftsman.

Roger and Keith - thanks for sharing.

Well, I think I'll go ahead and add this one to the thread even though it's not a solo project but a collaboration between master smiths Ron Newton and John Fitch:

I'm waiting for some pictures of a big mosaic damascus Bowie that Ron recently finished. When I get them I will be sure to post the pictures here.

Thank goodness that I DON'T collect folders! Otherwise I might be listing my kids for sale on Ebay.;)

I know what you mean. As it is, I'm running on one kidney and have run out of places to donate sperm and plasma! :D

Pete - you cracked me up with that one. :D

Danbo - please spare us the details.

Keith - thanks for this latest beauty - it had been a while. This folder is simply outstanding in all respects.

Cheers,

Roger

Here are some photos of a time consuming double blade auto that Ron made. This is the first documented auto mechanism in the U.S. that came out of Sheffield, England in the mid 1800's. It's unlike any folder Ron's ever built because it's half slip joint and half lock back with no pivoting lockbar. Ron obtained an original antique to study so that he could exactly reproduce this folder.

63_WEB.jpg

The blades are handforged O1 with 1000 grit satin finishes. Main backspring is handforged O1 and the slipjoint spring is stock removed O1 with 24 kt gold applied to mirror finishes. Blade lengths: Wharncliffe:2-5/8" , Dagger: 4-1/8", Overall opened w/dagger-9-1/4".

65_WEB.jpg

Handle: Handcarved convex fluted cream mammoth ivory
Bolsters: Silver bronze
Liners: Coin edged 416 s.s.

The mechanism can operate either manually or as an auto. This is the only change from the original antique Ron incorporated.

Geez, is there ANYTHING this Newton guy can't make? Another awesome looking knife from Mr. Ron.

Keith and Ron, this is simply incredible. Can you give us an idea of how the auto is disengaged? Bolster release is the only thing I can see.

Thanks.
