Today I decided to smoke my grandfathers pipe, my mother brought it up on Easter, it's a LHS imported briar certified purex model, I decided to do a little research and was bitten by nostalgia.
The L&H Stern Inc. was established by Ludwig Stern (1877-1942) in 1911. His brother Hugo (1872-?) acted as vice-president & secretary. The firm moved to 56 Pearl St. Brooklyn in 1920. It closed down in the 1960s.
LHS was one of the main pipe supplier for US soldiers during WWII.
My mothers father was a battalion liaison agent during the war and received medals for his service in Europe, Africa and the Middle East
Here pictured together for what I'm guessing the first time since his passing in '77 but probably even longer, his pipe, pipe tool, tobacco pouch, knife, and service discharge papers.
I decided to pack his pipe and use his tamp as a birthday treat to myself, the stem is cool it's threaded.
With my things including the 68 white owl my wife and daughter gifted me 3 years ago today, I haven't smoked in almost 2 months and this was a pleasant cool smoke that I enjoyed the connection with my grandfather who's lap I last sat in at age 5, 38 years ago, the scent of his pipe smoking even with my tobacco still had the scent of his.
