Pit impressed with Mora !!!!

I am late coming into this one so my comments may seem out of place but I was never aware there was such a "love-hate" perspective of the Mora. I own ONE. I got it for $10 and it's an OD, CS model with a funky plastic sheath. Honestly, before I got my Muskrat Man Bushcrafter, it was my baseline for comparison of how well anything else I bought would cut. It serves duty as a size-comparison prop in photos of my latest knife infatuation as well. No, it would not be my "first choice," if afforded the luxury of choice, if I had to "pick just one" as I headed out the door but, if I were stranded and it was all I had, I would feel damned fortunate. Any time I test a new knife that I think is my new "fuzz-stick master," I drag out the mud-fence-ugly Mora, MM Bushcraft and my BRKT Mikro-Canadian and do a comparison. So far, those three are in a dead-heat.

To reduce the embarassment to pitdog, I decided to unstick this thread so it would no longer be at the top...

WHOOPS! Sorry pit! Guess this post did just that! :D:D:D:D

Nothing wrong with loving and owning expensive knives. But the question is, is a $200 dollar knife 20 times better than some of these good $10 knives? Are you twenty times less likely to lose or damage your $200 knife?

Good value.

WOW..I cant believe what I just walked in on...PIT..what the hell man?? I thought you and me where the last 2 hold outs.....I guess I have to go this one alone. I know one thing for sure..I am not telling anyone that I used any of the moras that I own. thats for sure.

Mora's are the mopeds of the knife world....they're a lot of fun to play with but you don't want any of your frineds to know how much you enjoy playing with them and you sure as hell don't want to be seen with one:D

Hey, now, don't keep posting to this thread, keeping it at the top, and having EVERYONE see pit's deep shame now.

Really. Stop it.

:D

I did once pull out the camera but only when I was sure nobody was around....

I don't buy Moras. I've used them, they cut amazingly well. Like a laser really. They are cheap and easy to replace, wouldn't feel bad about losing one to the woods all that bad.

It's just that narrow blade and the peewee tang. I just can't bring myself to carry anything without a full, exposed tang. I guess I'm a closet knife snob.... Like Pitdog.:D

EDIT: That's a sweet rig by the way, bet it's worth three of the knife thats stuck in it.;)

Bumped again because we all love pitdog:D Nice sheath set-up BTW, even if it is for the Mora:D. I had a similar one (actually two) made for both my kids...and yes the sheath costs 2-3 more than the knife, but it's good for kids that might lose, break or damage the Mora...just replace it and it's a good way for them to learn their lessons inexpensively:

Remind me never to cross you!!!!

Oops, just bumped it again! Pitdog, this is one of those things you are supposed to keep IN THE CLOSET!

Wow, I may have to look into a Mora.
Sorry Pit, back to the top!

I don't see why some folks dont like Moras...mine are great...

Oh, crap...back to the top now, huh?

What the heck is going on...my internet goes down and the world with it?! Pitdog and a mora? What next? LOL

My little Mora story:

Awhile ago I bought a survival kit from a fellow forum member and in it was one of the ugliest Moras available, the 746G. It's so ugly I can't even photograph it, so here's a pic from Ragweedforge:

746g.jpg

When I first held that Mora in my hand it felt like a child's toy and it looked, well, downright ugly, but when I touched the edge I heard violins playing, it was so exquisitely sharp. I've heard these stories about people receiving knives NIB that can whittle hair, well that has just never happened to me. Even the Spydie and the Barkie I received, while shaving sharp, still weren't scary sharp. The knife I received previous to the Mora was a Ranger RD7 which came in a semi-sharp condition. That was fine with me, I just put the edge I wanted on it, but, dang, it took a good deal of time with just hand sharpeners. So when I first felt the edge of that Mora it was a slice of heaven. I'll never forget that day :)
