Pleae help urgent advice needed.

I would stay away from the ebay seller and report him. He has taken you for over $400 on $5 fake knives!!!

I'll be the dissenting vote here. You bid and won the knives so you have a responsibliblity to complete the deals. If you failed to read the discriptions, you should write it off to a lesson learned. Buying and then deciding if you "want them" or not, is not acceptable behavior imho.

Phillip :)

No- Winning them and then finding out they aren't as advertised is grounds for canceling the Sale.

Buying them then finding out they are Fake is different than deciding you don't want them.

Mitch

They are blatantly fake and the descriptions are conveniently unspecific as to where the knives came from.
i presume "liquidation" is a provence iv never heard of in China

The names "The Yarborough" and "The Green Beret Knife" are clearly used in his auction.
Using the names that Chriss Reeve uses is just not fair play, especially if someone is new or not really familior with CRK

Id bail out and report him if he has anything to say about it. The same goes for the "Brom Town" tracker or what ever it was called :thumbdn:

I think this is a good lesson learned and possibly your enthusiasm for a "good deal" got the best of you.

Caveat emptor is the name of the game when buying online and even on the forums. Not everyone is what they appear to represent. Pick and choose from reputable buyers and even ask fellow members if you are unsure.

A good look at the pics before you bid clearly shows that there was something amiss to his description on the Tracker and the photo he supplied shows the discrepancy. The CRK looks to be a copy at first glance if you had familiarized yourself with the product.

Whether or not you should back out of the deal is your choice.

Don't pay!!! The fact that the seller actually listed both knives with a trademarked name, is a blatant attempt to deceive a buyer. Had he said , I have a knife for sale , I don't know anything about it, bid at your own risk, then it would not be fraud. But he uses the name Tom Brown Tracker, and The Green Beret Yarborough knife, in his description to deliberately trick a buyer. Ebay will side with you if you provide them with photo documentation of the real thing and will not allow him to post neg. feedback to you. Just because you are a little green and didn't recognize the fraud at first is not your fault.

Total scam. The seller had sold the knife or another just like it and had a problem with the buyer in his last sale. Click on the seller's feedback. He knew it was a fake and presented it as real. Don't pay and if the seller has a problem tell him you'll be happy to let the Feds handle it. There is an entire department devoted to trademark infringement.

Hi guys,

Just found out about the sellers feedback thanks godot, and it appears he quite clearly knew that this knife was a chinese knock off. I had emailed prior to bidding on the tracker to confirm what 'cosmetic inferior' meant as I had expected him to say small marks etc. But i was advise that the Tom Brown tracker didn't come with paperwork (as you would expect from a liquidation, i guess) .

It clearly stated what the make of the knife was as with the Yaraborough. My knowledge of theses knives is not that great and I am amazed that some of you guys can get just by the coating or serrations that they are fakes. Much respect to your knowledge !

Anyway, at the moment I haven't paid for the items and have offered to help towards relisting cost, couldn't say fairer I din't think as I was mislead, he had ample time to inform me that the knives werent genuine, and I wouldn't have bidded simple as that really.

Still out looking for a WSK or similar now, something genuine this time I hope !

Who is new graham is he on the forum ? and I need a supplier for the UK. Ideally i was looking for a metal finish type without the blackening on it, don't like the red scorpion as its stainless.

There are many reputable dealers on ebay with genuine trackers, but I thought this one was a genuine knife in metal finish.

I'm happy to go on recommendation though.

Thanks
Paul

Trying to buy on the cheap or thinking you're getting something for nothing is the basis of most scams. The seller is a scam artist and should be banned from ebay.

Before a buyer spends serious money for a knife, especially in the secondary market, he owes it to himself to get a bit of education, otherwise he'll get something but it may not be what he wanted.

Hi Guys well here in the UK its not easy to get educated in knives in the same way, hardly any shop stock a wide variety of Tops, Bussie, Al Mar knives.

In fact I don't know anywhere. Only online, but hard to get a true feel for knives that way, thats why I joined here !!

maybe I'll go with a Tops not quite the design and coating I had wished for but you can't have everything.

Anyway to give the seller his due he didn't argue and was happy to cancel the auctions as he apparently sells items for others / liquidation.

Many thanks for the advice and assistance much appreciated.

All the best
Paul

I'm glad to hear you were able to get out of dealing with him -- he obviously has so much success scamming people he knows he'll get a willing buyer soon. :D

What you should do if you aren't sure is go to the original website. Here's the CRK Green Beret page http://www.chrisreeve.com/greenberet.htm where you can see the swedge is wrong, the serrations are wrong, there's a small choil the ebay version doesn't have.

And you did well in catching the "Tom Brain" spelling to warn you.

I agree
Could you not see that is said Braun?
That is the first thing I noticed when I saw the link
The dude did say it was a Tom Brown which is incorrect
If I were him I would have put Tom B. knife.....

As they say, you can't cheat an honest man. But the seller isn't an honest man, so Paul did no wrong in backing out. And the seller acknowledged this by shrugging it off.

This particular "Tracker" knife was absolutely, 100% confirmed by TOPS knives as counterfeit. The fakes are made in China, and are bouncing around Canada, too.

Edited to add: In my opinion, the Tracker is a hot seller, and you won't see any liquidation of this model from TOPS.

If I did not know what a real Tom Brown Tracker looked like I would probably believe this one was real. While the last name on this one, in comparison to the last name on real one does appear to read "Brain", if you never saw the real deal you might think that's how Brown signs his last name...................Who knows

But no one should ever be forced to finish a deal after winning the auction if the item won is not what he/she belived it to be. It seems the "meeting of the minds" was missing in this "contract"...................who knows

Period:D:D:D
