I posted a video in this thread. It was for humor based on the constant back and forth about how to read a patent that has been going on for several years.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1391668-Axis-Lock?p=16041774#post16041774

Esav felt that such a post showed "contempt for the discussion":
No, it's not funny. It's trolling. If you have so much contempt for the discussion, go someplace else.

Since post showing apparent "comtempt for the discussion" with humorous video are normally tolerated, what is the difference between what I posted and this example:

In particular, this post was pretty obviously exactly what Esav seems to be objecting to, but I reported this post, and Marcinek later said that he was not contacted by mod staff, let alone infracted:

Here is where he mentions that there was no repurcussions:

Can moderation staff please explain to me how I can post the same type of things as other members without receiving infractions that they do not? If there is a qualitative difference between my "snark" and, for example, Marcinek's snark, I would like to learn how to do it the way he does. Thank you.

I'm not a mod but I'll take the first turn banging my head against the rock. You're an adult, I assume by now you've learned the world isn't 100% fair. Not everyone gets the exact same sized ice cream cone. Having said that take the advice given by the mods and other established members in the past 10 of these woe is me threads and drop it and move on, or if it's so world shatteringly bad just move on. You know as in to a different forum where there aren't any draconian mods or alumni members with secret privleges.

Mods I'll take my lumps if this was out of line.

The world doesn't need to be fair, I just want to know what the standard is. If it is different for me than someone else, that answer is also acceptable.

I don't want to continue to accrue infractions for seemingly arbitrary reasons if there is a standard that I am simply not able to infer by observing mod actions.

It's different for everyone on the forum and is quite often based on their previous post history and length of time on the forum. Newbies are more likely to get warnings for little stuff rather than infractions, it also depends on your reaction to a warning. Did you get an actuall infraction for that or just a friendly warning?

Infraction. I've been on the forum since June of 2006.

I frequent many forums, and it is nearly universal rule that if you are perceived to be a PITA by the mods or a good percentage of the regulars, then you may be penalized for lesser offences. Sometimes the number of people that have you on the ignore function may weigh in decisions. Ultimately it is a community and will police itself in ways that seem to be in the best interests of that community, which may not value your inclusion. That is a function of your history and online personae.

Unfortunately this is old news. Marcinek always seems to get a pass to antagonize as he pleases. You're not the first person to bring this up so don't expect anything to be done about it. Just ignore him.

Not really up on the specifics here, but it seems like your main issue is you getting an infraction where "others" don't. The reality is that those "others" do get infractions for similar posts, they just don't tend to mention it. Point being that you may be assuming bias due to only being able to see your own infractions.

Like everything human it's judgment..

Do you need to start a thread every time you feel slighted?

Since I'm aware of several specific instances where no infractions or warnings occurred after posts were reported, and other members have repeatedly indicated that marcinek appears to have no limits on what he can do, it does not appear that he gets infractions for similar posts.

The problem is that this isn't a "best behavior" type forum - the mods purposely let the forum be "lively", as they have said. Despite intelligence and education, I struggle to see the line, so I'm asking. Again.

Unfortunately, every other request for clarification from moderators doesn't provide information, but rhetorical answers like "you just don't get it, do you?" Well, I don't get it. Either the golden rule applies, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, and we ALL have to expect a certain amount of snark, I'd like to also be able to participate in the forum in that way.

I honestly cannot see what I did wrong most recently, in light of what is ignored. I'm not the only one flummoxed by this.

Mother of mercy! This guy is crapping all over the forums then whines when he getts dinged for it. I'm seriously sick and tired of having this RX guy around.

Some people feel the same way about Marcinek, and others.

Marcinek tries his best to weed out the undesirables. Sometimes harshly and is often dinged for it. He does it because he cares about this community.

You don't. You've never shown any love for this community. You just love to cause discord.

Go away.

Nope. And I don't. Lately I just report nasty posts, which doesn't do anything.

Again it's judgment. Because you think something is nasty doesn't mean that others do, secondly because you don't see something happening doesn't mean somethings not. You are not an arbiter of anything but your own conduct and from an outside POV it seems every time you get your knuckles even lightly slapped you start a thread here to talk about it, it may not be true as I'm not in every thread you are but...

You've been here a decade why not just ask the mod you slapped your knuckles to explain? You're a former military guy would you call out your section leader/team leader/squad leader whatever you sailors call your front line supervisor at ship or fleet level formation? Why not PM or email the mod you have issues with and if that answer is not satisfactory then copy it to spark for clarification. This stuff doesn't seem complex to me.

The last thing is, before you cast stones take a stone sober look at what you post and how others might react to what your saying or more how your saying it. To me you come across a bit pompous, superior, and pedantic you might not be but that's how you read.

I like to have conversations about knives and knifemaking and regularly contribute accurate information and enjoyable discussion topics in general, blade-making and outdoor forums. If that isn't "love" of a discussion forum, I don't know what is.

If a few members don't like my "style", that is fine - for them. The members don't get to choose who is or isn't contributing, which is wonderful. You don't get a vote, I don't get a vote, marcinek doesn't get a vote. As it should be.
