RX, I don't have a dog in this fight but I'd like to offer some advice. It doesn't seem like you get along real well with the W&C crowd. It doesn't really matter why or who's right and who's wrong. Why not just ignore those people and refuse to respond to them? They'll probably crack jokes at your expense for a while, but who cares if you can't see them? They'll get bored and move on quickly enough.
At the same time, be a decent person yourself. You're complaining because you got an infraction for trolling. It's really not debatable that your post was trolling. It added nothing to the conversation, and was just an attempt to be funny. Your only defense is that other people seem to get away with trolling and you think that you should as well. This is all easily avoided by not trolling in the first place. You've said yourself that there's a growing number of people complaining about this behavior, so why engage in it at all? It's possible, and actually pretty easy, to not post unless it's specifically about the subject at hand. As others have suggested, reread your posts before you submit them and ask yourself if what you wrote contributes to the conversation and will be considered helpful to other members. If not, don't post it. It's that simple.
If you follow these two rules it's quite easy to get along here for years without any interaction with the mods at all. It seems to me that that's what you're after. I've strayed from this path myself on a couple of occasions and found that it helped to walk away for a couple of days to avoid being too wrapped up in emotions. Come back with a clear head and move on with your life. Every community is going to have positives and negatives. If you focus on the negatives you're going to be unhappy. Even if you win this crusade, there's going to be other negatives to get all worked up about. It's a never ending battle. If you choose to let these things slide and focus on the positives your experience will in turn be much more positive. In the end, all of these wounds are self-inflicted.
Good luck. I sincerely hope that you can move on from all of this and start having a better time.
