Please explain what is and isn't "trolling"

And what games are those?

Pretending you don't know what's happening. Asking irrelevant questions over and over (but what does YOUR Benchmade say?) Demanding proof of things that don't require proof. Casting suspicion on anyone who doesn't agree with you.

Essentially, playing dumb to get a rise out of people rather than talking about knives.

RX, I don't have a dog in this fight but I'd like to offer some advice. It doesn't seem like you get along real well with the W&C crowd. It doesn't really matter why or who's right and who's wrong. Why not just ignore those people and refuse to respond to them? They'll probably crack jokes at your expense for a while, but who cares if you can't see them? They'll get bored and move on quickly enough.

At the same time, be a decent person yourself. You're complaining because you got an infraction for trolling. It's really not debatable that your post was trolling. It added nothing to the conversation, and was just an attempt to be funny. Your only defense is that other people seem to get away with trolling and you think that you should as well. This is all easily avoided by not trolling in the first place. You've said yourself that there's a growing number of people complaining about this behavior, so why engage in it at all? It's possible, and actually pretty easy, to not post unless it's specifically about the subject at hand. As others have suggested, reread your posts before you submit them and ask yourself if what you wrote contributes to the conversation and will be considered helpful to other members. If not, don't post it. It's that simple.

If you follow these two rules it's quite easy to get along here for years without any interaction with the mods at all. It seems to me that that's what you're after. I've strayed from this path myself on a couple of occasions and found that it helped to walk away for a couple of days to avoid being too wrapped up in emotions. Come back with a clear head and move on with your life. Every community is going to have positives and negatives. If you focus on the negatives you're going to be unhappy. Even if you win this crusade, there's going to be other negatives to get all worked up about. It's a never ending battle. If you choose to let these things slide and focus on the positives your experience will in turn be much more positive. In the end, all of these wounds are self-inflicted.

Good luck. I sincerely hope that you can move on from all of this and start having a better time.

Ah, the more direct wording begins to emerge; "lopsided treatment".

So that's what this thread is, a veiled attempt to call out the mods. Enough with the beating around the bush already, just come out and say it.
Marcinek trolled a thread, had it reported and nothing happened. I do the same (or less) I get an infraction. And that lopsided treatment by mods has been noted more than once by many more people than me.

And the atmosphere of BF has also been commented on by newbies and veterans. I know you guys like the way things are, but of course you would.

I noticed you never did answer what patent number was on your Benchmade. Why withhold that information?

People post funny, irreverent stuff all the time. Legion 12 has "trolled" this thread how many times? There is a very high bar to go over on BF before anyone can say there is trolling going on. I don't care what Marcinek does, except his pointed personal attacks are okay, and other people's less personal OT are infractions.

The problem with ignoring this stuff is that plenty of people have come to regard this unchecked ad hominem as mod ordained feature of BF. So any member that gets slammed by these people is pretty much "BF staff does not approve of this person". Its the cops staying home and letting the lynch mob do the policing. And it is breaking forum rules to "enforce" forum rules.

This forum has a lot to offer, which is why I read and post here. But it is not being justly moderated. Not just in my opinion, but other people's opinions, too. I'd rather not put on my "ignore" blinders and pretend that I'm not being constantly spat on. The only people that deserve that have long since been banned.

Cory, do you like what Craytab and marcinek do? Have you been on the receiving end of it? Have you ever been enjoying a thread that suddenly had a whole lot of irrelevant, personal attacks displacing the actual topic?

There is nothing veiled about it. I asked the mods what is going on in the OP.

Because it is just something you were doing to distract from a thread about the Axis lock patent expiration. It is as relevant as your dress size.

You do this to bait, troll and drive threads off topic when you are challenged. It is appalling, childish behavior. Thank you for the demonstration here.

Okay, I guess I don't understand your reluctance to post the patent number on your benchmade knife but maybe when you get time you'll post it in the axis lock thread.

These would appear to be unfair and unfounded accusations. If there are so many people who believe this, why don't they show up in the multiple threads you have made about this topic?

I am reluctant to play games. I asked you more than once why you needed it, and you don't answer. You are TROLLING me. Stop.

Did you ever get your answer? According to what you just replied to Craytab, if you ask again then you are trolling the moderation staff. Hmmm...

They have. There are at least two in this thread, and have been others in other threads. Comeupance posted about this all on his own having nothing to do with me.

As these folks are not inconstant communication with each other in their own sub-forum, it is certainly easy to view their individual opinions as having more weight than the group opinion you, shiny, Crytab, marcinek, Legion, etc represent.

And then there are all the people who don't want to be associated with troublemakers like me or trolls like you. So they keep their distance.

The last group are the ones who come by and tell me to ignore you guys. Why do you think it is that so few people tell you guys to ignore me? Because they know that's the whole point of your existence on BF is to pull this stuff.

Tell me? I didn't ask you anything. I asked the mod staff, and your team has been apparently speaking on their behalf.

Well then, I don't think there is much else for us to discuss. I guess you will have to wait for one of the folks you think is doing a poor job of moderating to comment. I haven't been able to help you at all so I'll be done posting in this thread now.

I've been wondering how many ways you could say how little you respect the mod staff. Now I find it's how many times. But only one way. And I would rather not respond to whining, so this thread is dead.
