Photos Pocket Fixed Blades

My new pocket knife. This was the first "real" knife I made using heat treated "knife steel" and it shows. It's been in my pocket for about 6 weeks now but not all of the scratches are from use. I'm slowly improving my grinding and finishing skills (at least I like to think so) and I need to make a new sheath. (I'm also working on my leather skills.) I'm a lefty so the pic below shows how it is riding in my left front pocket.

I did try cross draw with loops and tek lok. I liked that it was accessible with both hands, comfortable while bending over or sitting. I think its one the best way to carry a small fixed blade. I got use to a folding knife clipped to my pocket though so I became a little stuck in my ways. It is harder to use my off hand to draw, but I like It sits below a jacket if I am wearing one.

I agree with this. I do carry small fixed blades but I use a sheath designed without clips, just the tip of the handle shows from the pocket, I'll try to get some pics.

I wear khakis a lot and even the smooth clips on folders start to eat at the pockets over time, those dcc clips and such absolutely shred me pants :(

My preference for a pocket fixed blade is more for self-defense than utility, but even most of my self-defense knives can be used for utility. I predominantly carry them in my support side pocket (left side). Their purpose requires some specific features such as a deep “punyo” (or ring), something that makes indexing faster and easier to withdraw. My defensive style for training is simply reverse icepick drills and used in conjunction with (or assisting) accessing my strong side handgun.

Gypsy EDC makes the best deep pocket sheath that I’ve found:

I understand the program of instruction you are talking about. I have knives for utility first with some self defense features. My knives cut a lot of boxes. I have a Northman but the blade shape is less useful for my use. But it is the reason, I started pocket carry. I had to buy some optional sheaths to find what I like. Eventually though, I found the handle size and blade shape were not what I was looking for. After experimenting, I settled on the Magni.

I don't have a pocket sheath for my Polkowski Mongoose, it's hard to believe he passed away a decade and a half ago (2011).😢

His knives were really state of the art fighting knives with their ergonomics.

I am always going back and forth with these models, there are all so nice, but I see some common aspects between the Coyote, Cowboy, and I almost forgot about the Paisano too. Although slightly smaller or bigger for different tasks. Thsnks for showing all those great Horsewright knives.

Dave, I am sure I have asked before, what are the specs of the Coyote vs. the Cowboy? I believe the cowboy is larger, but for some reason I am drawn more to the lines of the Coyote. Thanks.

Thank you for the kind words!

Here is probably the best way of seeing the difference. From top to bottom: The Cowboy, The Paisano and The Coyote. All three of these blades are back from heat treat and are AEB-L steel. I do all my bevel grinding post heat treat btw.
