Podcast centered around slip joint making/traditional knife history - The Catch Bit Show

Since there is a new Catch Bit podcast out today, I thought I'd pop this thread up for the start of the New Year!!! Here is a pic of some of the knives we talked about!! Maybe Neal and/or Mike will chime in!!View attachment 2762894
It's always nice to get together with friends and talk about knives!!! A great visit for me - I hope all who listen enjoy it too!!
The Catch Bit Show!!
Good to see the knives discussed Charlie. Always enjoy the banter, as well as, the informative nature of the show.

Thanks for tuning in Duncan, MarbReds, DaveHS, Steve, Sharp & Fiery, and Dan.

And DaveHS, I don't know if Grayson looks in here???
But I do know that he is quite a character and a darn good knife maker.
He is very young and I look forward to seeing what he does in the future.
A quick photo of a Grayson I carry. A great gentleman to work with.20250118_090808.jpg

This was the first time that Mike and I had no real agenda for the show other than to have our dear friend Charlie on.
It was great fun just to "free wheel" with Charlie for an hour!!!
Here are a couple of knives that I had talked about during the show.
On the bottom is a nice old French lock back folder from the 1800s.
A German Bruckmann whittler sits above.

Where you been hiding that Bruckmann, Neal??? She's a beauty!

Thanks for keeping the episodes coming for us!

He is registered here as Gjcustomknives Gjcustomknives but doesn’t post much. Here’s my latest from him:

Thanks for listening, Carboniferous, and Peregrin.
A couple of beautiful examples of Grayson's knives from Rufus1949 and MarbReds, thanks for the pictures.
Thanks Glenn, I was thrilled to get that old Bruckmann whittler.
And thanks to our treasured guests like Charlie, we have listeners from over 20 countries regularly tuning in.
Some good episodes in the pipeline...

Couldn’t agree more. Well said

Got caught up with the last three episodes while working in the shop yesterday, great stuff!!!! It doesn't get much better than listening to fellow knife afficionados while working on knives!!

Neil that's quite a classic P.B. you have there!!!

Eric

Thanks Duncan and AusLoX.
Here is a sneak peak of an interesting knife for our show coming out next week with a great guest...

Nice Pressbutton version, Neal!! I look forward to hearing about it!

Here's one I inherited from Joanne's Dad, who lost an arm in WWII. Stew's knife is not nearly as interesting as yours but is of the type! And a Memento for us!!

I look forward to this coming Podcast!!:)

Rufus1949, yes, you are spot on.
Eric, thanks, and those sure were odd and interesting knives. We need to get you back on the podcast!!! :)
Charlie, Sorry to hear that your father-in-law lost an arm in WWII, but what a wonderful knife he used after. Thanks for the great picture of such an unusual knife.
I started a list quite some time back of the various cutlery companies that made one arm man's knives, and quite a few did.

Oh My!!! That Pic Bone really jumped out at me Herder, that's absolutely stunning!! What a beautiful Knife with just the perfect Swage work on those fine blades, I am scrambling for my ear pods right now to listen.
That Box is fantastic. I absolutely LOVE that patent on the box cover, and seeing that patent on the Pen Blade Tang.

I am chest breathing right now until such time my parcel sent by my Post Master from North Dakota to me arrives. It has a very nice Wallkill Scout with a not so often seen patent stamped Punch- AND a very nice old Wallkill Box.
This process ages me greatly 😂

Don't forget GEC's OAMK and Stew's blade - both extensively field tested!!
I gave one to Joanne's youngest brother, and another to Stew's younger brother, Joanne's uncle, when Stew passed, as a memento!!
