#1... a hard use knife needs a choil. It would suck to cut the hell out of your forefinger in the woods (well... anywhere else for that matter).

I do like the look of #2 on a small knife... maybe a 4" blade similar to the Cultie.

Never had a problem with my NICK as far as cutting my forefinger

Looks like #2 is coming back...:thumbup: from a landslide.... It's a better blade !
neither designs are perfect but #2 has better potential .............................
#1 looks similar to every other Busse design. I want to see something different...

How about No.1, minus choil. Just fill that area with blade. A little more blade plus some protection from your finger sliding forward over it. ;)

although number two is the more functional, anyone who buys infi for its practicality is kiddin themselves. beside, the hogmuk has it taken care of.

numero uno.

Gotta have #2! Narrower blade, shallower ricasso, choil is not a factor on this model, cleaner looking. It's not a 'typical' Busse profile w/o the talon hole but a good knife is a good knife.

I liked the choilless design of #2 but like Dunner and 360joules I like the thumb ramp and the taller sabre on #1. I also like the handle on #1 better as it looks more like the EDC handle which is so far my favorite. Plus it looks like the squared off butt on #1 is more inline with the tip and will be better for pounding on.

Same here:thumbup:

And of course any guys actually doing SAR work should have their votes weighted about 100:1

And slope the non choil area foward slightly to keep that sharp corner from tearing my SAR gloves please, or at least buff it round down there in the shop. bare handed those corners are the places I nick myself most on knives! Thank you for allowing input on a personal basis.

#2 is just like the Hogmuk and that is awesome! There's the combo of bushcraft Busse's we all need and they're both full convex ground!!!

and choil-less :D

This photo and number 2 do not look similiar to my eye:confused: But I will like one of these too in THIN-FI .140/.170:eek: slicing a piece of heaven off with that would be easy:cool:

If you want this knife to have a larger/usable choil, then you are asking for the BATAC more or less.

Agree, and if this really is to be a SAR type knife why make it look like all the previous Busses's. Is'nt the point of this to make one ususable in the field, not a case queen:confused: Choils on small bladed knives such as the one being designed snag gloves, lines, clothing, etc on a real SAR mission.

There appears to be 2 camps here, folks looking at #1 are Busse diehards and like the tactical/Bowie look. Folks voting #2 see the SAR knife they don't have, or at least not in a Busse knife, yet. Just my view. Split this into 2 separate threads, one for each knife number; and THEN critique them individually within the sub group that really likes them, rather than pointing out what's not to like about the other team's favorite.

Why is that? INFI is supposed to be one of the best steels for a knife on today's market. What would be a more durable, longer lasting sharp edge than INFI:confused: And, yes, Number 2 IS more practical for SAR:thumbup: Especially strapped in upside down in a kydex on your pack or vest straps IME.

MiniMuk2 may fit the bill for those who want a Bushcraft knife, 1 please; but this is a SAR knife design we are discussing is it not:confused:

If I keep screwing around with Jerry's designs, he may decide to 'disown' me. :o ...But I took another shot at it. :) Went to sleep thinkin' about choils vs. no choils and such. in this photochopped copy, I chopped in a much smaller choil, one that the owner could round the corner on & sharpen. I'm thinking that it would drastically reduce catching, but still serve its purpose. The Talon hole area is still there as a finger guard... Besides INFI steel, what says "Busse" more? ;) ...I also dropped the handle another half degree to a full 2 degree angle lower than the original drawing of #1...

Take a peek... I do believe, from reading posts here, that the ultimate solution lays between the two design sketches... But since I have zero SAR experience, and zero knife design/mechanical engineering experience...Maybe I'm full of it! :o :D:D

I like it, Jaxx - but you do realize I hope that since you came up with it and posted an image of it he can't use the design now. Dang it all!!

Oh and about the thumb ramp - some people like 'em closer so they put their thumb on the front slope to get better leverage when doing detail work with the rear of the blade. So moving the ramp forward doesn't make sense in that use case.
