A steeper or compressed guard/talon hole and smaller choil would be a nice compromise on #1.

What if the guard/Talon Hole actually was curved back slightly to provide a little index pocket and let the blade come back closer to the index area. Game Warden Talon Hole and choil. This would allow for a solid grip, and great leverage for small chores

I will send more pencils ;)

Kidding! You have provided two SWEET choices. I will buy either one.

#1 ! No choil or a something a little more shallow that woudn't trap rope or line might be of benefit. Overall, love the design and concept!

#2 Here < Choil Hater ;) :D And thanks again Jerry! I love the little beast, choil or not and can't wait to get a set.

What dunner said:thumbup:, though I dont hate choils I like the handle on #2 but would love the thumb ramp of #1

If you want this knife to have a larger/usable choil, then you are asking for the BATAC more or less.

jaxx, your mods to jerry's sketch are very interesting, it does kind of combine his two designs.

With a 5" blade I want as much edge as possible for maximum cutting. With a small choil it will make it harder to make notches and other fine work. I am with Dunner I am a choil hatter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say "Back to the drawing board Jerry!!" Your SAR folks have spoken...
Choil-less #2 design, with the blade and thumb ramp of the #1 design!

#2 is my pick.. If we end up with #1, Maybe I will just have The Ducci modify it....

(Grinducci?!?!?!?!?!? Where are ya???)

I liked the choilless design of #2 but like Dunner and 360joules I like the thumb ramp and the taller sabre on #1.

I have to agree with James 61 agreeing with 360Joules agreeing with Dunner...

Thumb ramp...? Either way, but IF there is one; gotta agree w/Jaxx...

... does anyone else think that this ramp might be better if pushed forward a little bit more towards the plunge line??

+1 for #2!!

Thanks Jerry.

I voted for #2

It's definitely the better user.

#1 doesn't have a choil.. it has an overgrown sharpening notch.

:)

#1

Round off thumb ramp a little, and drop handle a little... very little:thumbup:
