Just a little update. I dyed the handles of my knife with RIT dye black. The standard color was natural micarta. I think it came out very well!

I see the links, but not the images

Nice. I agree that the clip makes it ride to high (for me). The pommel keeps jabbing me in the ribs. I might try just rotating the clip around (but still on the upper screw holes) so the hooks are up instead of down and it hangs from my belt rather than sits on it.

I received mine.

Very brief impressions - and pics!

Out of the box, the first thing I noticed is that the quality, fit & finish is great... except one little detail - already mentioned by some - namely the machining marks on the spine. So I immediately started some cosmetic work. At first I was afraid that it would not fit with the rugged general appearance of the knife, but it gave it a bit of elegance without compromising the spirit, I think.

I didn't really use it yet apart from light cutting, but my first impression is that the balance and ergonomics are pretty much perfect for the size.

really like that file work dude! simple and classy!

That's pretty darned cool looking. Let us know how it holds up over time. I'm curious how deep the dye penetrated.

Hi, thanks! Yesterday I tryed the knife in the woods with some friends yesterday. They were stoked! The cpm 3v is awsome and holds an edge very well!
The " RIT" dye holds up pretty well to. It penetrated only a millimeter which surprised me. I try it for a few more weeks and will let you guys know how it holds up.

I am surprised that it penetrated THAT deep, folks seem to not realize that micarta is resin-sealed just like G10, it does not absorb materials but only holds onto them at the surface because of the loose surface fibers. Polished, the resin prevents this.

Guys, seriously, plastic drop-loop attachment:

Mine is kydex with a leather belt attachment tied to it, but yo can make it out of any tough plastic thick enough to prevent bending, you don't need any rivets/eye-lets just chamfered holes and string/paracord. I really hope Kiah takes the design and starts producing them en-mass as I don't even have a proper rivet-die set & press. The pics show it attached to the GSO-10 sheath but it fits the GSO-4.1 as well, indeed any sheath able to fit a Tek-Lok. Get out there and cut some plastic ;)

chiral.grolim, can you post some pic's of that rig from the back so we can get a better idea? Also have you tried it on your 4.1 specifically, because the balance will be different. I been trying to figure something out like this for my gso10/4.1, because I can't stand the high carry at all. In fact my two Survive knives have been pretty much just sitting at home, because I can't stand to carry them. I've been dreaming of a dangle mod., but I don't want to invest in the tools and materials needed just to make a couple pieces. I been hoping Kiah would come up with something by now, but I'm starting to give up on hope.

Guys, seriously, plastic drop-loop attachment:
.

Thanks for the pics. IMHO something of this nature is a must for the GSO-10 and 4.1 stock sheaths. They simply ride too high. They are high quality and I don't want to spend $100 or much more on a custom leather sheath to replace them. I'll have to work on something similar.

Although the bush craft leather sheath from Skystorm Leatherworks for the BK-16 looks great and like it will fit perfect. Anyone have one they can try and see how the retention is with the GSO-4.1?

I'm going to use an ESEE 5/6 clip. They work very well on medium to small kydex with a little drilling and grinding.

I hope that helps, I can take some pics of it on the GSO-4.1 sheath tomorrow or Monday. Yes, it works perfect on just about every kydex knife sheath that I own, right-side carry at any rate. For left side carry, you'd need to bend it the other direction or use it on a pancake sheath. It works for taco-style sheaths as well on the right side. Most well-made knives balance right around the guard, give-or-take a couple of inches, so this shifts that balance down far enough and is stiff. I will bite the bullet soon and buy the good dies and some more kydex and get a service-provider listing to sell these to folks. I already have a better model in the works. I also have a clip-model where the clip detaches and can accept a tek-lock or dangler:

Those look great, keep us posted. I'm sure you'll get plenty of orders.

I just placed an order for a 4.1 M390, Camo with Coyote Sheath and am excited to join the Survive! Club!

Mine measure 15-dps as mentioned in my review. If you have a micrometer, measure the bevel height and thickness (but divide the second value by half), then plug the values into a trig-calculator.

From what Guy said, and from my experience/observation, I would put my money on that it is between 45* and 50* inclusive.

If you guys look really closely, you'll see the V bevel is slightly convex from factory. In theory all of you are all probably right, although from different heights of the cutting edge grind. I sharpen all of my edges on the KMG rotary platen, which has some give. For you guys using those jig type systems, 20 degrees per side is a really safe bet for resharpening.

As soon as the shop is a bit more set up, probably within a few weeks, I'll also be offering free lifetime resharpening for those who don't even want to worry about it. You pay for shipping and I'll sharpen it for nothing. If you happen to come by Gettysburg and have a dull SURVIVE! knife, swing in and I'll do it on the spot for you.
