Poor man's Sebenza?

I own a Bradly Alias I and a Regular Large Sebenza. I do not consider the Alias to be a knock-off any more than any other titanium frame lock. If you think it's a knock-off, then you haven't handled both of them. They are two excellent knives, the Alias is faster opening and cuts better while the Sebenza is smooth and beefy. I carry the Sebenza a lot more just because something draws me too it. It doesn't feel great in my hand, but the blade shape is perfect for general cutting and the thing is very well constructed. If you take one apart, you will see parts that you never see in other knives such as a pivot bushing that allows you crank the pivot screw down and have a rock solid smooth action. Both knives are just plain cool, I'd consider the Alias to be worth the money, and a used Sebenza ($250ish) to be worth the money. The knives are different enough to own both and be happy with two different knives.

Looking back on my knife collection, I have wasted more time (notice the posting time stamp) and money on knives than I care to think about. Be careful! I should have never sold my BM806D2 and been happy with a great knife right from the start. The Sebenza and Alias are nice, but get a knife and be happy with it, you will be much happier!

why is wildjim banned? I didn't notice him being obnoxious in any thread (not that I read all threads)?
I don't have a problem with him liking and promoting the sanrenmu. If promoting the Bradley Alias is ok, then promoting the sanrenmu should be acceptable too.
(I don't really care for the 710 btw, but I am interested in a few of their other, less derivative designs)

It looks like he got flagged about 7:30AM on 5/16 for posting a link to sales, which is not allowed by forum rules. Then he reposted that link again about 3 hours later. I would think that this is the reason he was banned.

Years ago, the only poor man's Sebenza was a "Buckbenza". :D

Titanium scales. Wicked strong lock. One-hand opening (thanks to a one-armed bandit). BG-42 steel, which actually has a better heat treatment than the stuff from Chris Reeve, IMHO. Very light in weight for its size. A more efficient cutter than a Sezenza.

I'm looking for a decent knock off of the sebenza. Not a literal knock off but a titanium handle frame lock and good blade steel for an "affordable"(<$200) price. I've heard of the BM750 but haven't seen one and the CRKT S2 but have heard of the ats34 being soft. The Tyrade seems like an option but you definately lose the pretty factor if that is an issue. Anything else?

If I bought Sebenza 10 years ago I would have saved thousands... If you cannot buy new - get used one.

> It was spam, and Chinese knock-off spam, at that. That garbage is best taken out.

I'm not convinced. Did anyone ask wildjim? He seemed to me just overly enthusiastic.
With the same reasoning, the many posts in the not so distant past that answered every advise question with "just buy a sebenza." could be seen as spam as well.

It really does not matter if you are convinced or not some of the Mods here were convinced.
In just about every post he made he linked to that knock off website.
He was asked to stop and ignored the request.
He was banned after ignoring the request. We think he owned or had an interest in spamming the website.

SanRenMu 710. Made in China, but I have a strong feeling this is the closest to a Sebenza (in terms of looks) that you can get without buying the real thing.

Below you'll see a Buck #347 Vantage Pro, MSRP $75, with the same size/shape S30V blade as the Buck #172 Mayo TNT, MSRP $350. Of course, it has SS liners - and a liner lock - with well executed CNC-ed G10 scales. Yeah, it's a real bargain!

The other knife is the aforementioned Benchmade mini-Skirmish, BM 635BK in this case. Although dropped, they still show up some places. Super nice knife - probably $150-$200, if you can find one. Yep, it's S30V and Ti - and really well made - but that Buck Vantage Pro is no slouch as a knife, that's for sure. It does like to trap pocket change - but a Paul Bos heat-treated S30V blade like the Mayo TNT's - for ~$50 - wow!

I purchased several of these and they're a great deal for the money. They're obviously not up to Sebenza standards, but a good deal anyways.

And now there's Spyderco Sage II, which is quite appropriate since it's dedicated to Chris Reeve.

Considering the current fiscal state of affairs...

I have several poor man's Sebenzas. They are simply Sebenzas I bought before I was poor.

Classic, and very appropriate for the current climate. Things are really starting to tighten up here in Louisiana, we had been rolling pretty good until about September and then things just started going downhill and seem to be accelerating.

All the oil and gas guys say if Cap and trade passes our state is finished.

Didn't mean to get off topic, my apologies.

Save for the Sebenza, never settle, NEVER.

I have one of these. They're really quite good. Not as beefy of hefty feeling as a real seb. But quality for the money. Solid lockup and decent steel.

I'm planning on ordering a bunch to give them away to friends etc.

where do you get them? I've been trying to get a hold of a few of them, but I have no idea where to get them. Could you please PM me with the place you're getting these from?

Don't let any of these Anti-Chinese knife collectors tell you any different... the best quality lower-cost, mass manufactured, full Titanium scaled "Gentleman's knife" you can current buy is a Benchmade 10700 Nagara.
And to boot the the Nak-Lok, allows a user with some practice to use the blade essentially as a "gravity knife," quicker to draw than most axis locks I've used. And loads of fun!
