Portable Bandsaw Mounting Pictures Needed

It's at least half the fun.... the wife laughs because I'll sit in bed with a tool or supplier catalog dreaming and showing her stuff she has absolutely no interest in. :)

Ok, so in terms of quality..,should i be looking at the dewalt and milwaukee deep cut portabands?? it seems the milwaukee is most readily available, and fairly cheap in used condition.

I came close to buying the DeWalt last week but changed my mind since the blade isn't angled away from the frame which only leaves a very short length of cut before you hit the body of the saw. The only saw that I ran across so far that angles the blade was an inexpensive Grizzly which I was skeptical of.
How are you satisfied with your DeWalts?

Gary

I bought a Miwaukee. I got the idea from Stonewellbodies.

From what i read, the milwaukee only has speeds between 200-250 fpm. i find my blades last 5x longer if i run at 120 fpm. i'd hate to bump up to 200 fpm.anyone noticed this to be a problem???

I sold my 4x6 so I could get one of the portabands. Best thing I've done for my shop probably! I got the DeWalt 28770K. A lot of guys have said they don't like the Milwaukee as much after using both. Mine is only 'loud' when used at or near full speed for cutting G10 etc. The lowest speeds are fine in terms of sound. The throat length can be short for some stuff which can suck. I mounted mine using angle iron like Cliff did right on the leg of my workbench. I love it.

I have never considered it. I buy Morse carbide matrix tipped blades for about $8.00 and get along real well. Tool steel certainly wears on them. I would have to use another saw for a comparison.

No worries!i ended up scoring one of those vari dewalt's.just waiting on it to arrive.i'll probably go with some lennox blades.but i've read that the dewalt blades are just as good?

Thanks for this thread Will, I was also wondering about these bands attachments but why I don't know I was always forgetting to ask. Now I going for a band saw too, angle grinders and hacksaws ok at the beginning but I'm tired from the fear of ruining a piece of expensive steel bar with and angle grinder or the pain in the shoulder after a long session of hacksaw job..

i set up my dewalt today, made a 1/4" table and it cut straight and rigid, kinda slow but i figured it was the cheap blade. i just cut out a 5/32" TI clip and it zipped through it! with a 24tpi blade,i was blown away

I'm packin up the 4x6 :)

Dewalt is great, easy to set up, and cuts well. Simple bench top set up, and everything is right there if I need it. Allen wrench, clamp to hold the trigger down, box to catch the shavings....works for me

I am bumping this old thread to let people who are interested in D28770K know about a good deal (at least I considered it good). ToolKing has 10% off Dewalt tools and free shipping promotion, so you can get brand new D28770K for $180 shipped from an authorized dealer. I have ordered mine yesterday.
I did not use a band saw before so now I will be asking questions (probably dumb questions)...
What blades would you suggest to buy? I need to cut 3/32 and 1/8 bars of 1095, 1/4 bars of 416 and wood/micarta from 1/4 and up. Do I need a variety of blades to get exactly 3 teeth in contact for every material size or can I get 24 tpi for 3/32 and 1/8 and use 14 tpi for everything above it?
What is a good place to buy blades and what brands give the best value for the money? I am not looking for cheapest blades available, I am willing to pay extra for better quality. Prices vary from $5.50 to $40 for each. I see Lowes has Lenox blades and Enco sells Starrett and other brands... Do I need high carbon and cobalt blades to cut the steel?
