Possible scam

Mr Grossman, Not a problem, anymore. I did not ike the way things were done, that´s it. Noone took the time to check me or the magazine out; nor said anything about being post and called a scam and other things on the forums.

I hope we, as in myself and the other makers, can get on a better footing, from here out.

I really like your PSK and your first knife on page 3 of your gallery. OUT STANDING.

Hello Mr. Swanson, I hope the knife making is going well. I am sure with the amount of free time you have now, on your hands, the knives will be rolling out.

Yes, you were told the samething, it was copied from the e-mail I use.

As for the magazine, it is out and on it´s 4th edition; it is a bimonthly magazine.

What do you mean with the amount of free time I have now?

... Noone(sic) took the time to check me or the magazine out; nor said anything about being post and called a scam and other things on the forums.

So far all I have seen is you asking for free knives accompanied with unsupported claims, bluster, rudeness and arrogance. Are you surprised that makers are not lining up to send you knives.?

You originally stated that you would pay for samples like Cold Steel, then you rescinded that offer when it was accepted.

If a maker decides to refuse your solicitation, you insult them and tell them you don't want to work with them anyway.

I have yet to see you provide anything that can be verified
Show me some photo Identification.
Show me a letter from your editor proving that you are employed by him. (not freelance)
Show me proof of your claimed US military service.
Show me a PAID membership here.
Show me an email address that is traceable, not a free web mail service.
Show me your past published articles.
Show me why anyone would want to deal with you.

Even if you are legitimate and your article generates sales demand, the customers would be international and many many makers will only sell within the CONUS anyway...

I can't imagine why you are not yet banished here.

Mr. 12345678910,

´´Bluster, rudeness and arrogance,´´ is what I have received as well. As for your list; I will provide proof of the above list, to anyone who wans to work with me. But, to show off to impress you, is a waste. Are you a knife maker????? Or just a Registered User/ reader.

It was a hoping to to move beyond this, I quess not yet.

I've written for a living, and have had my work written about in various publications.

It's considered in bad taste for a legitimate publication to solicit free items for purpose of review.

Usually the product is purchased surreptitiously and then reviewed. If I'm not mistaken Blade Magazine has an ironclad rule on that type of thing, it helps to avoid what's called 'fluff'.

Hope this helps new knife makers, it's very easy to lured into this type of thing when you're looking for exposure. Knife makers who have made a name for themselves would more than likely find the concept of giving a knife away laughable.

This isn't a personal attack, just an observation base on my experiences.

Feel free to send me more information about your qualifications and I will take them under consideration. As you know many makers use an alias on this board.

Since this has become public, I would think that you would do whatever is possible to clear your name.

Keith, ´´Lured,´´ not quite. But, thanks for the not personal touch, that was very professional. BUT, FREE or WRITERS COMP, whatever you call it. If th blade is not up to nuff, it is stated, as well as my feelings and thoughts.

Some makers do ´´find the concept of giving a knife away laughable,´´´but that s how it is done here. I am more then will to buy a knife at cost. Cold Steel chargs 10% of retail more or less. Many other makers have sent me samples, they were fine with the arrangment. Oter US magazines do similure things.

Ether way, the maker is reviewed and shown in a forgien magazne. The German and Russian magazines have very similure policies.

I hope this a step forward.

How did you get into writing?

Mr. 12345678910, I would be glad too. Somethings you asked for are NONE of your bees-wax. But I will do the best I can. I your e-mail listed in your profile good? As I am not posting everything you asked for on the open forum.

I would expect, and fair and honest review of my credentials.

Thank you.

Really, What US magazines?

I have a list of his so called references if anyone needs them.

Mr. Swanson,

Please do your own research, you have the free time now. So, research in between posts, knife making and looking for work. Moving out west is NOT cheap.

I also have the complete list of references., if anyone wants them.

I don't have time, I have a full time job and I build knives when I am not at work.
I just have not changed my profile. I have been back to work since april.

I do not need to research what us magazines request free knives to review, or any product for that matter. I know of none.

You are the one who said there are other magazines that do similar so enlighten us.

I'm at a loss here. What things do you not like? I answered your email promptly and never received a reply from you when I asked for references. I also received a phone call from another knifemaker you contacted and he told me you said that I recommended him to you. I never even heard of this maker, let alone know him.
As far as a free knife, I've been written up in every US knife magazine there is so I know all about this. Six times in Tactical Knives, twice in Blade mag., twice in Knife World and twice in Knives Illustrated. Other mags, include, Boar Hunter mag and The Backwoodsman. I know who the writers are and even though I've been paid for most but not all knives sent, the correspondences with these writers have been prompt. I am personal friends with Dan Shecthman and even he has paid or bartered for knives.
From my experience with other writers, there is no guarantee the article will be published. I sent 2 knives out for articles that never made it. Bottom line is, the editor has the final say.
Again, I followed through on my end of the email converstion and you never followed up.

Mr. Grossman,

Scott if I may, you misunderstand me. I meant, I did not like how the WHOLE scam things was handled. On ether forum. Did you ask for my references, I don´t remember, I am sorry if you did and I did not promptly e-mail them to you. You sir have been fair and polite, I can ask for little more.

As for other knife makers and recommending me to them from you. That is not true. AS, I don´t know you nor have I worked with you, yet. I work like to. I have seen your work before and like it. That is way I why I thought, to do a review one of our knives, for the market over here. Yes the editor is the boss, I only work there, and for free I may add. Mr. Shecthman, is well respected and for very good reason.

I meant what I said, ´´ I hope we, as in myself and the other makers, can get on a better footing, from here out.´´ I would greatly like to review you. If you are somewhat interested, let me know and I will forward my complete list of references.

Regards,
David Bolton

It would seem to make things much simpler and waste a lot less time if the references/credentials were posted here, instead of e-mailing them to one maker at a time. Here is a chance to build a reputation as a writer for a magazine and you are claiming "NONE of your bees-wax" instead. Nothing posted on here yet makes me think that you are legitimate.

Some informattion, is None of anyones Beez-wax. The personal type that is; but yes great idea. I will.

Mike, some magazines don't pay writers for the articles. The Backwoodsman is one example.

I normally reply, very late in the am, so my grammer may be less then steller.

I don't write for a magazine, Dave, but I think your grammar isn't too far gone. On the other hand, your spelling is a little off, for a pro.

Hey I have a custom knife you can review, I just had it made by Gill Cote from Northern Ontario, Canada. It's a great knife, but he didn't make it like I designed it so I'm willing to part with it. Check out Coteknives.com and you'll see right away, he has some real talent. His knives take real pretty pictures. Just PM me for the details, and I'll ship same day the funds are verified. Good luck getting free knives.
