No one is going to forget the dog huh.. Lol smh..

Well no, part of the discussion is about dog attacks, and there's way better options than any knife that can be had for $5 from any old sporting goods store.
On the other hand, if you want the knife, that's cool, get it, posts pictures. You don't need to justify buying it, you're in a safe place, we all spend way too much on knives here.

You let your dog run loose? I can tell you this for sure.. If it were to attack me, it will end up with a very nice and expensive knife in it somewhere... If I lose the fight, you'll be a happy owner of a pricey knife.

No I absolutely do not, and I can tell you that I would kill anyone who purposefully injured my dog.
Anyone who was to do this would have to unfairly overreact based on appearance alone because she is absolutely not aggressive towards people in any way.
One would have to be pretty stuped and or paranoid to mistake any behavior of my dog as aggressive.

The problem is that these people only know that I have a light golden colored dog and think anything bigger than a Chihuahua is huge. they don't really know or care what she looks like and have mistaken an aggressive yellow lab mix for my buttercup who is almost never out without a leash.

I know of a situation where an American Staffordshire terrier aka pit-bull was shot with a 9mm and kept going for another couple minutes. It stopped eventually but not right away. Either way I would get a fixed blade for this type of thing. Something with a design like the benchmade nimravus.

Reminds me of a biography of Andrew Carnegie that I read when I was twenty one or so.
The story goes that his lieutenant Henry Clay Frick was at his desk one night at the plant finishing up some paper work. He wasn't too popular with the steel mill workers. One of the disgruntled workers busted into his office, shot Frick twice, but good, and stabbed him a few times with a sharpened file just to get his point across (sorry couldn't resist) and finally the mill guards and police carted the would be assassin off to jail.

Frick ? Oh he went back to his desk, sat down and finished his paper work before going to the hospital.

Or so the story goes.
Frick must have been part pit bull.

Link to not the version of the story I read but just to get an idea of what I am talking about.

One need's to learn to respect an animals space,
Especially so if they appear outwardly aggressive.
Exceptions made if they seem psychotic or diseased.
But it always better to avoid and not confront.
Should the inevitable happen, guess its best to preempt
With an edc bat.

Everyone is getting caught up on the dog aspect of this when I think what the Op is really asking is which knife would be better for self defense. He just used this dog story as an example of a high stress situation he encountered and may encounter again with a dog, or bad guy.

I always have a knife or two on me but they are not geared toward self defense, only edc proposes. I would still use them if I needed to but unlike you I can and do carry a handgun.

I don't own either of the knives you are considering, I would think both would work and if you really like the Winkler buy it. Your probably going to buy it one day anyway.
You'll have about the same number of movements to get each onto action so practice it until it's muscle memory.

Hope this helps, good luck and glad your not hurt.

Because your dogs see how you want them to keep their distance by how you act. They are reacting to seeing you pick up an object they have seen you pick up before. Just like a dog also knows when their owner is going to pick up a treat.

Put that same knife in a stranger's hand in a different context and the dog will not know what it is.

No doubt it’s learned behavior, she once jumped on my lap while sharpening a Millie, the look of horror on my face clued her in I’m sure. But a friend I was talking to had took out his mag before pointing it at same dog she ran off, but, again she could have been reading my body language much faster than my own cognition.
Edit: I’m still convinced they can see the correlation between fangs and knives though...

Ok fine, let's talk about dog attacks.

Yes almost anything is better than a knife in a dog attack... But the point is you don't know when that is going to happen. You have a edc knife on you a very muscular stout poodle runs up growling.. You have no choice but to stand your ground and defend yourself.. You pull out your knife but under stress you almost fumble it trying to open the dam thing. You live with no harm done but there is a lesson to be learned. You carry a knife every day, and now you know the knife needs to be a fixed blade or a blade that will open with no hand motion needed..

Whay do you buy and why? Yes cheap fixed blade can be had but id like to have a Winkler if I'm going to carry a fixed blade.

I buy knives because I enjoy them, no need to justify it, there isn't a logical reason.

BTW dog spray works on people too. So you could just carry it around.

It's not about some special weapon or secret technique . The pit was delivering a message about your need for self development in SD / martial arts . No short-cuts will work, but please ignore me ; because it will be much more entertaining to see what your next lesson is .

YOU NEEDZ A SMATCHET!

We had a discussion about a year back where the dude lived in a country where they were not down with mace, bear spay etc. let alone guns and he was a runner so didn't couldn't carry a significant knife or illegal what ever . . .
anyway finally we
Oh yeah and the problem wasn't one dog it was a pack of wild dogs that actually killed things to live. The pack wanted to eat the runner. Runner does not want to be eaten. Wants to run in the country the pack digs.

One of the best options we decided was a mini flame thrower.
i.e. road flare and an aerosol can of WD-40 or starting fluid etc.

You might try that. Looks pretty spectacular for the evening news vid anyway.
Doggies probably won't keep biting if they are ON FIRE.

A 170 Napolitan mastiff 2 yards from me gave me the lock stare, not enough time for me to even think he lunged at my left arm, which I retracted behind myself and grabbed his collar with both hands. Had he kept going it would have been a bucking bull situation, as I was straddling the beast. He chilled out once his collar was tight, and I took care of that dog for about 5 days, we were becoming friends until the owner came looking for it. I knew it was the owner because the dog wouldn’t let anything else on my property. I gave the dog back, and advised the owner that the dog needed obedience classes ASAP. Apparently this advice went unheeded, as I heard he tore open the owners wife one morning she went to wake up the kids, in whose room he slept. Poor dog had an ugly owner attitude problem, and went to heaven

This is golden

Best believe, if I'm carrying a knife and a dog runs up on me aggressively it's getting drawn. If it doesn't back the F off its getting stabbed. Repeatedly. I might go to the hospital, but so is the dog. I know, I know, a knife ifn't optimal against a dog (or human) attack, but that is entirely beside the point. Use what you got, as best as you can. It's better than playing dead.

With that said, if you're gonna carry a knife with the expectation of using it defensively, you better be training to do so.

Yeah, this has gone totally Prac-Tc...
