Post your CRK carry knife for today.

Recently retired a KA 21L that served pocket duty for a decade. This fella has some big shoes to fill.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts as you use it for some time.
They finally convinced me. I’d been wanting to try a 31, and always thought the Insingo pattern was really practical. Then they switched to magnacut and I couldn’t help myself any longer. 3 birds in the hand and something about a bush and all that jazz.

Pretty happy with it so far. It's absolutely rock solid, no play in any direction, great action that will continue to get better as it breaks in I'm sure. Just a fantastic bit of kit.

One issue I find is now I want a few more. Honestly not sure how I stopped at just one for so long. Every time something else ended up in my pocket, I missed the 21. Such hard working knives. Maybe I break down and finally pick up a Zaan. Should probably snag something in S45 just for comparison purposes. Should get a Mnandi too for dress up.
Yeah, once that ball gets rolling, right?

You may have seen the image below posted previously. Please forgive me for not taking a fresh picture. Just lazy…

I carried and used my Large Sebenza (pictured in the middle) today. It cut up a pile of cardboard boxes into more manageable pieces for recycling, had a soap & water bath, then saw some food prep duty before dinner. Gave it about 10 passes on a leather strop and put it away. I always found the factory edge on this S45 blade too convex and therefore difficult to keep sharp. I sent the knife up to REK for sharpening service a few months ago. It came back like a different knife - provides extreme cutting performance now and is much easier to maintain since Josh re-profiled it at a steeper angle.

Not carried today, but in case anyone is wondering:
The Damascus Sebenza pictured on top was upgraded with black DLC hardware and thumb studs from REK. Last time it was used was prime rib night last week at our favorite restaurant in Flagler Beach, FL. I just left it out on my dresser so I can carry & use it again tomorrow. Terrific blade. Hard to describe but, I find this blade’s edge drops down from super sharp to just acceptably sharp fairly quick but, it is easy to bring back. After a day of use, I give it a couple passes on a black Arkansas stone with a drop of oil then very lightly strop. It returns to shaving sharp in under 3 minutes. Actually enjoyable. I assume if I use a 600 grit Diamond plate on the KME and left it there, the edge would hold considerably longer. I just like keeping this one with that really fine almost razor’s edge - you guys know what I mean.
The Insingo Inkosi on bottom was sent out for coating then reassembled with a J2H Ti backspacer only after the blade received a very special regrind in Josh’s masterful hands. Unbelievably thin behind the edge. I haven’t used it since it came home. I should tie a decent fob on it and put it in rotation - probably won’t ;)

I wonder if any other members send their CRK’s to REK?

On another related note: I just bought a Small DP Sebenza Micarta inlay in MagnaCut. Opened, but didn't even take it out of the box - I think it’s just a bit too small for my EDC preference. Should have bought a large PJ Magnacut to put to hard use or, for a small fancy Gents Knife, I should have gone Mnandi. Here I go again…

What CRK are you folks carrying?

Thanks for reading this rambling post. Have fun!

I also dislike the convex edges from CRK. It's like the knife is uncircumcised and doesn't look right until the roundness is cut away to reveal the true apex. That and it just gets into stuff better after the procedure.

Also, that middle sebenza looks like the edge is somewhere around 19 dps. Reasonably acute, but not too crazy.

Also, I recommend keeping that damascus blade off the diamond plates. Not a good match.

Who or what is REK?

Regrets for assuming everyone would recognize REK. Josh is the owner operator of REK Knives (REK = Razor Edge Knives). Josh’s business, as I came to know it, began as a sharpening service, evolved into knife customization and he currently manufactures incredible fixed and folding knives under his mark. A few of us can occasionally get on his books for reblades or regrinds. Josh is an active member, knife maker (and I believe moderator) here on Blade Forums. Incredibly talented and all-around great guy to do business with…

REK Knives

Today, as with everyday this year (unless traveling for work) I am carrying my small 21 glass blasted insingo. I would never have glass basted it (I like the standard blast) but I bought it that way to hold me over while I looked the one I thought I really wanted. This particular knife just grew on me and I decided it’s the one. The action, lockup, thumb serrations, swedge…everything is just perfect.

AMEN BROTHER!
And thanks for the thoughts on the 31. Sounds like they have them dialed in.
