Dune has to be one of my least favorite movies of all time. What dreck.

The BOOKs, on the other hand, belong in the pantheon. (not the son's postscripts).

Never read the books daizee, but I can appreciate your point about the movie version of Dune. David Lynch, the director of that film, has a "quirky' storytelling style.

And we have a winner.

Anthony Quinn as Auda abu Tayi says to Lawrence (Peter O'Tool): " I carry twenty-three great wounds, all got in battle. Seventy-five men have I killed with my own hands in battle. I scatter, I burn my enemies' tents. I take away their flocks and herds. The Turks pay me a golden treasure, yet I am poor! Because I am a river to my people!

If you have never seen this film, do yourself a favour and find a good print and watch it. Brilliant.

BTW, I also really enjoyed Dune, Tombstone and Top Gun!:D

Dune.. sucked compared to the book, but really, to be fair .. Frank Herbert is damn near impossible to put into film... so I really hated the cliche`"the book was better" ... Tombstone is awesome... it doesn't get much better... TopGun, is my all time favorite movie, even though I think Tom Crud is one of the worst actors ever.... the movie was made by the planes and the story..

gmoneylov, you river, you

I don't remember the year Dune came out in the theater. But. When I was a kid I lived about a 1/4 mile from a cinema. Me and a nieghbor boy rode our bikes and paid our $1.75 to watch Dune. I gotta say it didn't make the first bit of sense to me. But the weapons, and the big freakin worms were cool. The sky blue eyes freaked me out a little. Never read the books.

I loved Dune.
It seemed to be way ahead of it's time.
I'd love to read the books some day. It seems like there are alot of them.

Tombstone was top notch. Val Kilmer and Sam Elliot were great that movie!

As far as Top Gun is concerned, it's always been one of my favorites.
I had a buddy tell me that there are about 20 "fruity scenes" in the film.
I called BS. But sure enough...the next time I watched it...it's comical how many subtle "references" there are.
Still a great movie! lmao

I'll be damned. That means I was 10. My how times have changed. I have a 9yr. old daughter, and there is no way in hell I would let her and a friend ride there bikes to the cinema without a adult. To many freaks. Sad when you think about it. Kids are growin up fast. But no where near letting them run lose like I did when I was young.

I was watching terminator last night and bust out laughing at the ending where it's just the robot body walking around. I bet back then that seemed awesome and great CGI. Now it's so fake it's like watching a comedy.

it's called 'suspension of disbelief'...
that's why I like sci-fi with real sets. it ages better.

yeah, well you have lived in a world where there have always been CD's... and DVD's...

I remember when VCR's (VHS, BetaMax, etc) weren't even a wet dream

Actually I grew up with cassettes and VHS tapes. I honestly dont remember there being a single cd or dvd in the house until I turned 5 or 6.

Same we didn't have a Cd player in our house till I was 8 and a DVD player till I was 13 (and I'm only 19 now) lol

I do remember watching laser discs in school they were cool as hell

I miss VCRs with dials and the graceful failure modes of analog media...

19°F outside... I'm off! Wish me luck, I hope I don't end up chopping my knee again! (Knee... tree... easy to get those confused!)

What's that, an Elvis song?

you've forgotten Elvis already? you're older than I thought.

Good luck, Meat!
Remember.... bend at the knees and don't let the axe pass the horizontal plane!
Watch the Joe Flowers and Ray Mears 'tube videos on safe axe and hatchet techniques!
Very important for short-handled chopping tools like the SFA.
