Watcha getting Daizee? I'm kinda leaning towards the 890 over the Adamas. It is just a great looking knife.

Id prolly get the 890 too. I always have several fixed blades in the woods and for normal EDC cutting that 890 looks like it might be better, the Adamas looks like it might be beefier and better suited for hard use in the woods though, but at that point id much rather use a fixed anyway.

Both look great for different reasons, the adamas looks like a tank but that 890 looks like an elegant good cutter.

Happy thanksgiving eve ya'll

Same to you bud!

Man its be raining like crazy since last night!! Windy too, my little girl almost blew away while i was walking her to school. The wind caught her umbrella and i thought i was going to end up chasing mary poppins!

his and hers Dragonfly-2's in G10/VG-10 on the way. I wanted to get her the British Racing Green version, but they don't put those scales on the steel frame.

I think the Adamas is rather hideous. The 890 and 707 are more my style.

ETA: weather has been wicked windy and rainy all night here too.

Trust me, they'll figure it out ;)

I'm not a Luddite or anything like that. I use a computer every single day and most of my knives are made of "super steels" and synthetic handle materials, for Pete's sake. I just think this stuff is way out of hand with kids, especially pre-school kids. We have young people graduating high school with a phone permanently attached to their hand, who can't spell their way out of a wet paper bag and wouldn't know how to use a real encyclopedia or the Dewey decimal system if their life depended on it.

Crayons! Paper! Sticks and dirt! Put down the hypno-device and go play in the woods! Read an actual book! Build a treehouse! Fall out of it! Skin a knee or break an arm, it builds character!

And GET OFF MY LAWN!!! ......................................................................................... :D

Love to know what got edited out. You sir, are a curmudgeon. But I agree, for the most part. Problem is, if you send out your kids, they'll have no one around to help them if they do fall out of the treehouse, 'cause all the other kids are inside glued to their iPads. There's a great piece about this in "Manhood for Amateurs" by Michael Chabon (great read, BTW). Raising my own kids, it's a conundrum that I deal with daily. The monster's already out of the box, and unless you remove your kids from society, You just have to deal with it. I grew up in a world with a different (WOtD coming up) paradigm, and those rules don't apply anymore. I'm trying to find a balance for my kids; a fearful spouse (who grew up totally free-range chicken ) and the fear of society in general that our kids might get hurt works it's way under your skin, and you know your kid won't kill themselves fooling around with mini-bikes if they're sitting in front of a screen. It's hard, is all I can say. I have an unfinished treehouse in our woods I started building because I wanted my kids to be outside and have a place of their own to play, without supervision, where they could be kids. That ended with a fractured skull, a Medi-vac 'copter and a stay at Boston Children's. I don't know if I'll ever finish the treehouse.

Ok but, why would they need to? I have access to all of human knowledge right here and now. And libraries all have their books cataloged on a computer system. I can look up a book on the public library's website and know if they have it in or not and where to find it. From there you have to be really dumb to not be able to figure out how to find the book (non-fiction 181.90 or whatever. anyone that can count can do it) but if that's the case the librarian will be able to show them. (hopefully just the one time)

I agree that kids or adults shouldn't spend all their time glued to the things, but at the same time there is a huge difference between being able to turn on your computer and use google and actually being able to use and get the most out of a device. It's like the difference between having a driver's licence and knowing how to actually work on the car and keep it running. And gaining that level of knowledge doesn't happen in a few hours or days or weeks. There's a happy medium in there somewhere, especially on days when the weather isn't cooperating or the youngin's are cooped up inside for whatever other reason there may be.

The spelling issues is indeed a problem, but might not be related to our addiction to technology. Heck I wasn't raised on a computer and I barely know how to spell and punctuate. I'm sure I've made a lot of mistakes just in this post.

I grew up outdoors. Always outdoors, And i think kids today seem to be coming up more educated electronics or not. But hell i lived in a small country town of 1000 people and only 50 in my graduating class, but i graduated top of my class with honors a year early and i only had a 3.2 gpa, but kids today with a 3.2gpa have been tought so more much than i ever seen books wise. But more of them have no idea how to get food in the wild, couldnt tell you the name of any of the trees or plants outside, dont even know what a friction fire is much less how to make one, and are scared of the smallest bug. So i guess you give and take and as parents we should try to find that "medium"

But hell what do i know, i just do my best and if its not good enough the wife will straighten it out :D

The great thing about being an adult, making your own choices. I.E. for breakfast this morning I had ho-hos and egg nog...

Nothing got edited out. A couple things got edited in.

Relax guys, sheesh. Note the smiley... do you really think I yell at kids to get off my lawn? I fear you're taking this a bit too seriously for a snark thread.

And no, I don't actually want anyone to get hurt.

Annnnnd before I into worldwood :D I will just shut up about it now.

All I know is that kids are not the same as they used to be. When I was a kid, I would spend the summers outside doing something. Riding bikes, playing basketball, wandering around the Christmas tree farm behind my parents' house, always with at least one friend. Now when I go home and visit, (in the summer time) it is like a damn ghost town. All the kids are inside playing video games all day. It is rare to find a child ( or anyone really) who will look you in the eyes and be able to carry on a conversation.

Oh well.
