It only took a package eight days to get from south of St. Louis (less than two hours away) to Barlow. USPS "Priority" shipping. Pony express could have smoked that. The quickest route apparently is through Louisville by way of Indianapolis.

I had a Priority package sent to me last Friday from UT. Apparently they thought it would be a good idea to send it over to Kansas City, KS and let it sit for a few days before sending it over here to WA. It made it here yesterday. Whew...I was getting a little worried...t'was not a "cheap" package.
I keep seeing commercials for USPS "new and improved" Priority shipping. Lol. Still woking the bugs out apparently...

We went to cut-your-own tree farms for many years when I was a kid. Bring a big thermos of cocoa and some PB&J sammiches, make an afternoon of it. Matter of fact I think one of those outings was where Dad taught me about saws vs. axes... ;) It's pretty fun, actually.

However, that's kind of where the fun ends for me. Now that I'm grown I haven't had a Christmas tree - or decorated the house for that matter - in years. Just too much hassle to get out all the decorations, keep the floor clean, trim it, keep the critters out of it, tear it all apart, put all the crap away... just to pay a higher electric bill and have a giant fire hazard in the living room? Bah, humbug. :grumpy:
It is a hassle, and I'll admit I don't love the process.....so I let my kids and wife do most of it (we have like 150 gallons worth of Rubbermaid containers full of the sh....tuff) while they tell me what a humbug I am (this, after hoisting, transporting, trimming branches and trunk, getting the cast iron tree stand out of the basement, blah, blah, blah....and crawling around underneath the damn thing while my wife takes a half hour to make sure it's straight up and down....). I hafta say though, I love hanging out in the living room with a glass of nog late at night with nothing but the lights on the tree on, and the sweet smell of balsam fir....

I've had nothing but goo experiences with them lately...I can print labels in my house and have packages picked up - and it costs less than going to the PO.

Have fun in the woods WW! Hope you'll have a good time.
As for myself, I've been sleeping during the day and have been resting in the sofa when I wasn't asleep. I've not been feeling too well since yesterday evening. I'm sure I'll be better tomorrow or the day after, but right now it just blows. I did order a 9 though. Yeey.

Holy shit, he's still alive.

Lol!!!
Good to know we don't have to start looking for a new mascot.
As far as Christmas goes, I don't care too much for the tree & decorating & the ridiculous amount of money we always spend. But I do love the smiles and squeals from the little ones and the way it brings our whole family together. So, I can't say that I'd ever want to cancel Christmas or anything like that - maybe just dial it back a hundred years.

We're gonna need some sort of proof....how do we know you're not some sort of impostor?

The smell is a dead giveaway.

I'm giving Todd a hug for Christmas. :D And maybe some beer.

My weight-loss convinced me that it's damned simple. Beyond any conditions that inhibit metabolism (thyroid issues, for instance), you just have to burn more than you take in. Period. My Fitness Pal is mainly about caloric intake. I can eat whatever I want, but I'm beholden to a daily limit. So I've learned to eat where the "good" calories are and pace my eating so that I don't use everything up at breakfast (which is how I used to eat).

My vacation pictures from early in the summer put me over the edge, and I was impressed by the progress a colleague was making on My Fitness Pal.
Something had to change for me too. MFP gave me an easy way to document intake. The database contains a buttload of information, much of which can be logged by scanning bar codes. In addition, C25K gave me a goal and a means for burning calories. I knew I was going to have to run 3+ miles at the end of my 8-week training period. Without dying.

I worked at it, and I am going to continue to work at it. I ran a five-miler yesterday way below my time goal. In the spring, I'll register for a 10K or two, and I'm thinking seriously about a half-marathon at the end of April. I have to make the decision and commit to the training by middle of next month.

I have dropped 30 pounds and two pants sizes so far using MFP.. thanks again for linking it.

s c r o o g e !!

:D

Sad, but true :D

See, I'm not the only one ;)

As much as I obsess over gear all year, I draw a blank whenever someone asks me what I want for Christmas.

Booze and/or gift cards.

I know a lotta people, mostly of the female persuasion, say "that's not very thoughtful"... but I disagree. I know exactly what I like, I'd rather not pretend to be excited when I get some useless something-or-other from someone who doesn't know my size, or the difference between a grinding belt and a fan belt. "Oh, but the receipt's in there if you want to exchange it!" Great, now I get to run extra errands. Thanks a bunch.

:p

was at the hardly ware store, and noticed all the Fiskars axe products have gone Goth

some kind of super slick black coating on the metal

and the handles are textured such, that at first i thought they were carbon fiber! but it's just a really splendid checkering pattern in the otherwise very dense glass-fiber plastic.

wacky.

was SERIOUS tempted to buy one, then noticed the hatchet is $35

that was like $22 last year

they're also made in Finland now. again. not china. go figure.
