I've not ever done it, but in New Hampshire you can get a permit to cut down a "wild" Christmas tree in the White Mountain National Forest......for 5 bucks!!! (WMNF Christmas tree permit). I Have some friends who do this every year....talk about tradition. For me, it would be a 2 hour drive ± with a couple of young 'uns, hike into the woods (gotta be away from the road) , find a suitable tree (the hardest part!), drag it out of the woods and drive the two hours home. I'd like to do it at least once in my lifetime. The people I know who have done it usually make a scouting trip or two to find their tree, or at least a good stand of prospects. Ah, well. Not this year.I wish we had tree farms around here that we could go to and get our own tree!! The ones we get around here are shipped on a semi from out of state. I want to say it has actually been 3 or 4 years since we bought a real one. I remember them being around $30 for the standard ones and $50 for the nice ones call frasier fir. I've always gotten the frasier, but when I priced them today they were $70!!! I said to heck with it and got the cheap one. I just couldn't justify $70 for a tree that I'll be throwing away in a month.

I saw that. Too bad, I only just started using it a couple of weeks ago. :blue::-(
seems so.
I think Derek maybe in transition. and I don't mean in the gender/medical sense.

Still waiting on my 12. Seller certainly won't get any props for shipping speed; NJ to NH usually takes 2 days; hell, some items I bought from the exchange left the other side of the country on Monday and were here yesterday! Hopefully it'll be here today. Free shipping is worth exactly what you pay for it. No tracking # either. These sorts of things make me a little nervous....got a case sodbuster jr on the way along with a opinel #7 and a sharpshooter sheath...
can't friggin wait until next week!!
tree hunting sounds like a lot of work - and you can't even eat it!
I hope so, too. At least the gentleman emailed me to let me know he sent it - economy. And it was his personal email and it had his pic, so I'm going to take a few deep breaths and "don't panic!". I once bought a pair of BC skis off the 'bay from a seller in Alaska, chose economy shipping (I got an outrageous deal on the skis) for 15 bucks cause I figured I could wait a couple of weeks as ski season was still a month off......waited three months for them to arrive....lots of phone calls, miscommunications and freaking out. Looong story, but in the end, I bought a brand new pair of skis for a 70% discount.....and we didn't have any snow that winter anyway.no tracking?? Hope you get that 12![]()
PM me, or email me better yet G. I'll see what I can do.I don't know if this is always the case, but while googling the BK9 I found it next to a river for 50% off. Pretty cheap now, but not as cheap as a while ago...
If this would be a good deal, it would be far too kind of someone could help me out in getting one to Europe. Directly shipping to Europe kinda sucks through that river, so an intermediate in the US would be very handy and a lot cheaper for a European like me...

That's funny, but true. Probably because if you're anything like me, trying to ask for the exact thing you want to someone who doesn't obsess about gear is more hassle than it's worth, plus you may have to swallow hard and smile when that someone gets you something "just like" what you wanted. Better to ask for socks and get what you want yourself. As much as I obsess over gear all year, I draw a blank whenever someone asks me what I want for Christmas.

now that i'm grown i haven't had a christmas tree - or decorated the house for that matter - in years. Just too much hassle . . . Bah, humbug. :grumpy:
