I'm in Central Texas, but most projections have the remains hitting us head on. We're preparing for the worst and hoping for the best...make sure you say a few prayers for the ones on the coast.

Plenty of water, batteries and some snack foods (don't want to dip into the serious stuff:D) to ride it out. At least I don't have to water my lawn this weekend:thumbup:

Just a good reminder for everybody to prepare for those fall/winter storms.

Well, we're prepared to bug in; my wife has to teach and I have duties to make sure the community and Soldiers are prepared. Thanks, though...it shouldn't be that bad this far in land, but this will be the third hurricane I've been through and Fran in NC in 2006 which was the worst. Always good lessons learned...

Take care Rock....my mom and step-dad are in Flower Mound...how far is that from you?

Man, I'm in Austin and just checked the weather maps. Looks like it could still be as strong as a Category 2 Hurricane when it lands here. If it is I'll have to see if I can get any interesting pictures or video of it.

Just curious, where are you? I'm in Austin.

I'm in Georgetown just north of Austin and don't plan on doing anything outside of the norm of just being prepared. We have flashlights and a weather radio but then again we always have those things. Being a cop I'll be called to work anyways.

I am in San Antonio and I think we are going to be OK since most of the evacuees are being sent here. Still, I imagine tornadoes and other strong wind will knock out power lines that may be out for a few days. To be on the safe side I just picked up more water and non-perishable foods as well as I filled up the tank in the car.

Wish us luck!

I'm in San Antonio, but grew up near Corpus Christi and have been through several storms. As a kid, I got out with my dad during the eye passage of Celia and we boarded up a window a big mesquite branch had come through. High adventure. After the storm passed, we got word that Portland, where my two uncles lived with their families, was "90% destroyed". I wished I had a picture of my face as dad loaded his lever action Winchester into the Blazer's gunrack for the drive down to check on them. "What are we taking that for?" I asked. The look on his face said more than his words, and I knew that him letting me come along was a coming of age moment. Think I was 12 or 13, and that might have been the first time I ever heard of looting and such during a disaster.

We are pretty well stocked for water and grub. Lots of extra water is anchoring my outside stored paddle craft. I did lots of picking up and securing outside this evening, but I've got some more picking up and bringing in to do out in the yard tomorrow evening. This morning they were predicting hurricane force winds here in San Antonio on Saturday. It is hard to believe they'll be that strong this far inland, but I remember being in College Station one year when the remnant eye of a hurricane came over and there was some damage, even though I don't think those winds were hurricane force.

My brother is hunkering down in the Rockport/Corpus Christi Area.

All those in harms way and the folks working to help them are in my prayers.

I'm up here in Lago Vista, finally free of that God-forsaken hippie town to the south of me. I'm not making any unusual preps. I will be packing some extra gear in case I decide to mount a small relief effort for folks I know in the main disaster area. Prayers go out to all...

Well I finally left Texas. Just in time it appears. Prayers are out for you guys. Stay safe! I'll be back in a week or so.

I live just east of San Antonio. My Fire Department is marking preparations for the worst. The state notified us today to expect sustained winds of 60 mph and 6-8 inches of rain.

i have family in galveston and houston.i have been on the phone encouraging them to get everything they need and be prepared to get hit hard!! my ex and kids are in north houston and my ex works at a hospital there.they will all be at the hospital when the storm makes landfall and will be near an emergency shelter. looks like ike is gonna smack hard!! i am prayin for everybody in it's path..-fed

Good luck guys. I lived the first 21 years of my life in San Antonio, Dallas and Austin (in that order) so I'm pulling for you. Hang tight!

Be careful Rock6, I retired out of Ft. Hood And lived in Killen for 17 years and with al the flat rock limestone just under the surface hard rains can cause flooding at every low water crossing. Many times it was a very difficult task to make it to Gatesville for work.

It's probably 3 hours North of us, but they'll still get plenty wet.

Yeah, you know the deal...the biggest threat is high winds and flooding and the possible tornado that may churn up. The Army likes to over-prepare and be cautious which is a good thing, but we have a about 100 families in the Battalion that live off of Fort Hood and we'll have to try and get accountability after the worst of it departs. That's always a challenge!

Again, it's much better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best:thumbup:

Thanks guys and for my fellow Texans (well, I'm actually a Washingtonian [state not DC:barf:]); stay safe!
