Preparing for Ike...

Winds are really picking up. Looks like my area is going to get the east/bad side of the eyewall.

Yay.

Be careful, gunner. I am praying for the safety of you and your family's safety.

Dang... hell of a welcome to Texas, huh Shotgunner11...:thumbdn: Hang in there bro. Here is a good website that projects wind speed at various points in the path of the 'cane. http://www.stormpulse.com/fullscreen/current. You guys will get some good wind in Spring. Looks like it should be in the 60-75 mph range around your location.

Just found out a good friend that use to work for me and recently departed the Army is planning on riding it out in Cypress, TX (a little northwest of Houston). I'm kicking myself for not offering refuge earlier:mad: They're going to call back, but I would rather they not try and drive tonight with the roads that way they are (wife and one year old son). They are a great couple (LDS) who I consider great friends. Keep them in you're prayers...

Say Rock6 I saw on a survival forum where a member in the Killeen area Went to thye PX for propane cok stove but wanted to get canisters at Walmart but it was a madhouse there so he went back to the PX and got the last 3 canisters of propane . What is that old saying about failing to prepare? Keep up the good work . I have been retired for 21 years now but my heart still goes out to a ground pounding grunt and his family. (GOD BLESS TEXAS)

Thanks for your service mkhop:thumbup:

Yeah, I made my wife fill up her car after work and hit the store for the last few things a couple days ago...it wasn't bad at all. I did hear they were limiting the amount of gas but I didn't see anything. We're hunkered down, really just picking up anything around the house that might be a destructive device if swept up by a wind gust.

We're pretty well out of the brunt of the path, but several will be much deeping in the doodoo than us...

Hey Shotgunner, good luck bro.

You want me to see if I can get your old place back for ya in Jersey?;)

My grandparents are in Cypress and they are all hunkered down and fine as of 2200 CST. Also, the Niederland area, Jefferson County, is w/o power as of 2300 CST.

Prayers for all

My older son is hunkered down in his condo in Houston. The city recommends everyone stay put so as not to overcrowd the highways which are already choked with evacuees from Galveston and other points east. As I understand it, last time a hurricane came through Houston about 110 people were killed on the highways during a panicky evacuation. Rationale is that it's safer to just ride out the storm. Hope they're right.

My wife and family are hunkering down in Paige, Texas (about 40 miles east of Austin). Winds are expected to be 55mph sustained with gusts to 70 there. She did pass on that maybe as many as 10,000 people stayed on Galveston Island. May God be with them.

How are all you texans doin?????????????

Ike tried, but early reports show that, of course, Texas made this storm its bitch in true Texan fashion. Some pretty bad damage on Galveston Island, but it seems like everyone else is doing rather well. I have been receiving txt updates and such from family and friends all over the region.

I'm alive guys. It was really bad but were all ok. A lot of wind damage and their saying no power for a month. Guess I get to work on my primitive living skills.

I won't be around much for the next few weeks except to give progress reports from my blackberry.

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers guys, I guess they worked.

Oh and no Tony, even after this, I still don't want to go back to jersey.

Glad to hear your end is good shotgunner...as far as power outages, they are not usually as bad as stated. One thing we did after the last bad one was go out and do as much community clearing as we could. It made the power guys' job much easier and they could work faster...

Except for loss of power, everything is fine at my house on the west side of Houston. Lots of limbs and branches littering the yard but no trees down in my yard. Several fell down the street. Thanks to a Honda generator I have TV, a fan, lights and my computer.

Good to hear you and the family are ok. I really was worried for a while there.
