I just got hemmed up by PP for using the gift option. I ended up working it out with the whole "Friends" justification. I don't think it will work in my favor in the future. To the OP, I wish you well. I won't use the gift option anymore, unless it's someone very well known to me.

I'm going to give the seller until Friday to respond, if he fails he's out of here. Period.

Using the "Gift" option is a bad idea all around. You can get your Paypal account blacklisted for a time, in which your money would be frozen. All to save a few bucks? I don't buy from people that demand "Gift" period, I refuse to pay someone else's fees too.

I don't understand it either. Very rarely do you see someone charge an additional price for shipping- which for 90% of sales is going to be more than the 3% Paypal charges for their money transfers, especially if the seller is using insurance like they should be- but in almost every sales thread you see the seller say gift or add 3%. It boggles the mind. Especially when charging for shipping has no negative impact on anyone and sending fraudulent payments through PP can result in losing your account and your funds being tied up.

I wont buy from any seller who even mentions a choice to use the gift option. It is a direct sign of dishonesty, and all that i need to see to look elsewhere.

Said it before and will say it again - choice. That is what the common "net", "gift or +3%", etc means to me in any sale thread. I have the choice to send the payment as gift (if I trust the seller) or send it via standard goods (for full protection). Personally, I almost always pony up the extra to send as goods but having the choice is something I appreciate. Just checked and found the split for my buyers using gift vs. goods is almost exactly 50/50. I use the "net to me" language because my primary concern is the actual amount hitting my PP account. If a buyer wants to send as gift, the option is there but never not forced on anyone. Clearly it is an option people like to have considering the 50/50 split.

This still means that both buyer and seller should be covering their asses and looking into the other party's history on the site and feedback to decide what they are comfortable with. This situation for rkgp2112 sucks but there are more than enough warnings about "gift" payments (hell it is the only buyer-seller rule Spark put in bold). Halmic is responsible for not getting the insurance he agreed to and rkgp2112 is responsible for not reading the rules and doing his research. Why people agree to things, especially when it involves large sums of money, without asking questions or trying to understand all of the details baffles me.

I truly mean this in jest but your username and your dislike of people having a choice is rather amusing :D

ALWAYS get a PayPal invoice before paying for anything... keep it all on record so you can file an official complaint if you need to...

Not everyone can send invoices. It's limited to "Premier" and "Business". The "Personal" account which is what most casual users have doesn't support it and it's not something most of us want to mess with. But if you abuse the "Gift" option enough, you will be rewarded by Paypal with an automatic upgrade to Premier or Business depending on the number of transactions you have and won't be able to receive free gift payments for long. They do watch those things and closely.

Bigfatts, it's not as bad as it once was. We need to keep educating the newer members and the next generation of knife nuts so they can have hassle free and safe tansactions.

THANKS!!!!
,"How long has it been ?"
it isn't long, i had one parcel after 103 days (only one such long, though)
yes, there is a tracking number, it is registered priority. he said it was impossible to insure because usps said very many thefts in russia, stolen, so they willn't insure the parcel. so just registered. said very much likely willn't get lost and will come safe.
"If it was a charge, talk to your credit card company and see what timeline you have to file a claim if the knife does not show up."
AWESOME, GREAT!!! THANK YOU!!!
"You have to ask yourself if saving the 4% extra cost is worth it?"
i do NOT have to ask. i am not idiot. i would never try to save anything like that. and i did NOT. i paid 20 more dollars to paypal for they send my money to halmic.

Wow sending that much money via PayPal Gift to a guy who's only been here 6 months, only posted in For Sale threads and has 4 feedbacks. What could go wrong?

You shouldn't be allowed to Post Complaints here in the Feedback Section if you paid via PayPal Gift. You assume all responsibility for the Transaction if you pay via PayPal Gift.

Anyone charging $660 for anything on PayPal that doesn't have a "Premier" account is not to be trusted in my opinion. If you feel you can charge that much for one item, regardless of what it is, then you can afford to upgrade your account.

I'm just glad these forums are here to educate everyone to keep them for being hustled.

1. I am not a fraud, shipped the knife as promised.
2. Since usps WOULD NOT insure the package to Russia, I sent it Registered Mail (paid more than the insurance amount to do so myself)!

"Since usps WOULD NOT insure the package to Russia"
should have talk with me then. I would negotitated with guy in USA then, and give you USA address so you can insure. He always insure before shipping first class to me, so he would insure.

rkgp2112, halmic says he sent it Registered, which is more secure than insured. It just takes longer to get there.

The type of account a person has is dependent on the volume of sales they have. So by your standards, a person with say a $1500 custom knife for sale should have a Premier account? Why? I'm not understanding the benefit of that to either party in a potential sale.

Did you send the Buyer the Tracking Information? If so then it's out of your hands and only time will tell.

+1. Registered is delayed but very sure. All packages that I ship to India (another country with high rate of mail thefts) are Registered, and I get a paltry $50 insurance on it for free (its included in overseas Registered). Easily takes 3-4 weeks, but never once had to worry about it.

To the OP: Typically Registered Parcels can be tracked on your postal tracking when they hit your postal system. Looks like it just about 2 weeks from the shipping date, so you may want to wait another week or so and then check.
