Production Knives with High HRC

Just as a point of reference, the BladeBander spreadsheet has Spyderco S90V at 59.9 HRC. It has quite good edge retention per Cedric & Ada. Makes me wonder what it would do if they went a little harder.

Note that the HRC test and C & E tests were different knives. Working on getting some of the C&E knives HRC tested so we can get closer to a direct HRC to edge retention comparison.
You should really check out the testing done with cardboard via

Not as entertaining as Cedric Ada outdoors. But data with material most people actually cut with and fine edge and working edge numbers. Note there is excessive swearing in Steve's videos. But worth the watch.

I've seen Steve's videos. Will take a look at Outpost 76. At some point I'd like to consolidate the data from various testers and see how it stacks up. Larrin did this with Ankerson and some other tester's data if I recall. I have Ankerson's data large collected. Time consuming to change down his tests since they aren't consolidated one place.

Currently working on getting HRC data aligned with C & E data. Bladebanter who manages a steel testing spreadsheet is being great, as is the guy who does HRC testing.

For me the advantage of the C & E tests is that he's using a standard material. I can buy the same or very similar sisal rope he's using. Harder to do with cardboard.

Bladebanter is trying to put together a collaborative effort to have samples tested by Outpost76 (Gerald) or Steve, also tested by Pete at Cedric & Ada, and hrc tested by Kurt.

In a perfect world, Steve or Gerald would test first. They’re very meticulous about getting off bad steel for tests. If they prepped, tested, confirmed (Gerald always reports results after a second test validates the one before it), then resharpened, it would help provide control for Pete as well.

The goal is a unified compilation.

Yep. Pete has my Mules. When I get them back they'll go to Kurt for testing. I already sent Kurt one batch with some different Mules.

I'm with you. So far I'm dialed in with a few of these guy but not all of them. We'll just keep chipping away at it and I'll help where I can, which is likely with data consolidation and graphing. No ego here - anybody is welcome to run with it.

You’ll be welcomed with open arms by all involved. Bladebanter has basically been doing administration and compiling data for what seems like half of the YouTube community, and the gang is all very welcoming to anyone who is interested in contributing. Feel free to touch bases with any of us thought Instagram if you have not already.
