Just wanted to also share my experience using Richards sharpening services. I contacted him regarding a botched effort to try and sharpen my little Protech Stinger in the EP, he asked what I wanted and said he could handle it. He even contacted me when my knives arrived to again go over my wishes. All three of my knives came back PROFESSIONALLY sharpened and I don't feel the pain of looking at my beat up Stinger. Thanks Richard! I'll be calling you later on, I've got 4 more headed your way :)

I too must vouch for Richard J and his skills.
I'm not active on the forums but I've lurked for years, this will be my first post and it is completely directed at Richard's fantastic work.
I just got back my Mcusta Tsuchi a 2.75in blade, and the finish on it was beyond my expectations, great finish, with no error whatsoever, the edge on this knife is perfect. It came great from the factory but this really out-does the potential the blade has. Like the above pictures it is finished superb, I may post some pictures later on. He was great to communicate with, and worked in great time, you will get EVERYTHING you need done and nothing less, but maybe more! In a good way! This will definitely not be my last time working with Richard, you will not be disappointed with his work, every single great comment about him in this forum and beyond is completely true. Thanks, Richard J.

Richard,
It was really nice talking to you yesterday, I shipped my Emerson's yesterday and you should get them soon....
:)

I sent my 'Zaan off to Richard and he did a SUPERB job! Excellent communication, fast turnaround, terrific work. Highly recommended! Thanks, Richard.

I sent Richard 3 Ratmandu's last week for convex sharpening and all of them came back within a week with wicked sharp edges. He is very friendly and takes the time to talk with you about your knife and what works best. He takes passion in his work and you'll be happy with the end result. Be sure to try some of the coffee too. The Nicaraguan roast I tried is awesome. Here are some photos;

i offer professional knife sharpening and i do regrinds (i'm not really set up to do hollow ground blades but we can talk). i
i also do modifications. send me an email and a number to call if you have any questions. i can call anywhere in the states or canada.

partially serrated knives with a normal edge in front of serrations.
if a blade has partial serrationis that are not trashed (only slightly dull with a slight shine to the edges) and in good shape (not bent or mashed down), i do them for free. i do not grind on the back side of a serrated blade which will take life from the serrations and cause the edge to be too obtuse causing a loss in cutting performance.

i charge $1. per inch for a basic v edge. convex edges are slightly more depending on the blade. regrinds must be discussed.

i also rebuild-repair stacked leather washer handle knives. here is a link to a knife i redone for a member. the sheath was made by cjpgeyer. tim also made a post in this thread (post 104). http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587129

here are some threads to check out.

here is a vid of a knife i made that is on a private passaround. this vid was made by the second person to have the knife which was not touched up before being sent off to the member who made this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q_eMwRaHYg here are 2 vids of the first guy to chop with k II. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Esp9tg4ZBpA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hW_XDLecms

Richard I am interested in having you sharpen some knives for me what is your contact information?
Thanks!

Sent Richard my beloved Sodbuster Jr. to re-shape the blade and put a convex edge on it. Near instantaneous replies to every e-mail, sent me plenty of pictures throughout the process to make sure it was what I wanted, and had the knife back to me within a week. Fantastic work and crazy sharp to boot. Awesome, awesome guy...

As many probably know, Richard is getting fixed up right now (seems he had some internal ails that required some surgery). He has asked me to take over his sharpening while he is gone, and I have agreed to do so.

Anyone that wants to wait for Richard, PLEASE DO. I believe that he will be up and around soon enough and you know exactly what to expect when dealing with him. I have NO DESIRE to steal his clients, further I expect to no longer offer my services on BF when he returns. He is a great guy, and I respect his business and his clients...please do not take this offer as anything other than me helping out a good friend and his clients (he asked me to make this post).

For those that cannot wait, send me a PM and I'll work with you to get things handled.

What you should know about me: I am a competitive cutter and have been sharpening for about 20 years off and on. I use traditional methods (free hand honing, no power tools). I believe this results in the best edges *I* can create. The only downside is it takes a bit longer.

Much of what I have learned and offer comes from my experiences and testing with competitive cutting and knife modifications I have done over the years. I have done quite a bit of experimentation with edges (geometry/finish/polish/etc).

I also hone straight razors and have a pretty firm grasp on what "shave ready" means.

That said, I feel pretty confident in my abilities to offer great edges for competitive chopping/slicing, straight razor shaving and almost everything in the spectrum between the two. My edges are sharp and durable. That said, I generally try and customize the edge to the use/user (so expect a few questions if you want my services).

I have a busy life with a very demanding job during the day, and raising three boys at night. I will be straight with you about the turn around you can expect. If things get crazy, wait times could increase. I will do my best to let you know what to expect when you contact me.

Usually I can turn a blade around in a day or two, but I have no idea what sort of volume to expect until clients start contacting me.

Thanks for reading, and lets all wish Richard a speedy recovery!

Respectfully,
Ken
