Prune Big, or Go Home!

Duncan, those TTT's are beastly, keep your fingers away.

Charlie the Robeson is very nice, always love adding a high condition older one to the collection.

I'm going to add the Russell that I put in the Old Knives thread to keep the pruners together, I do think these types of threads make a great reference. The Russell has a pretty full blade and unusual diamond checkered handles, appear to be ebony. I think almost all these pruners you don't want your fingers anywhere near when closing, most have alligator snap.

Great Russell, John! I haven't seen any Russell pruners before - nice example!

FANTASTIC Russell John!!!

Great covers, love that checkering/diamond covers, nice full blade and great tang stamp:cool:

Oh Charlie. That Robeson us juuuust faaantastic my friend. Wow what a sweetheart if a knife!!!

Augie- sigh...... Now do I really have to keep repeating myself matey lol. What a bonus with that Chequering that the scales are Ebony- to me this punches the knife into a far more respectable level- and that Russell is an outstanding knife. Just absolutely top notch stuff being shown here lately.

Thank you Charlie, Paul and Duncan, you guys know how hard it is to find old pruners with full blades, most of these knives were well used.

I agree with my friend, Harry! That is a sweet pruner and I am sure it will be put to good use. Looking forward to its character development :D

Thank you Gevo and Duncan . I also like this pruner but I also like the other one that i bought about a month ago. Both of them will gifted in 20 days to 2 of my daughters who actually asked for a good Hawkbill Pruner after one of them was given a cheap one to try this year in her garden . So do not expect any Character Development . If I had to choose between the 2 of them , I really don't know which I would choose . I might as well show pictures of both at the same time.
The newest one :

I think my vote is for the bolstered bottom one. Pin placement, bone jigging, shield is winning me over.

I'm with Gev on the bottom Case, Harry. That jigging with the cross hatching is really, really nice. Congratulations!

Thanks major works and Gevo . : I guess I would have to agree with you , but for a different reason. I wanted the bolstered one for one of my daughters just to protect the bone if she dropped it. Then when I went to buy one for another daughter , I could not find another one. They both want one for cutting flowers back in the fall . They excel at that.
I actually like the Stag Bone best.

Added a few pruners over the last month, first a Ulster Knife Co, I think this one is pretty old, have not seen the Ellenville tang stamp all that often,

What a nice trio of finds Augie. Christmas came a little early for you.

Harry

TOTALLY agree with Harry John!!! man, I just LOVE pruners. What a fantastic trio, man o man, so nice:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::cool::cool::cool:

I agree about the Ulster stamp being old. I've never seen it before...Just FANTASTIC:cool:

Thank you Harry and Paul. Paul, I love these old pruners also, don't know why, maybe the all the curves, just very pleasing to the eye.

Not to derail the thread (much, I hope), but what are some of your preferred sharpening methods for pruning blades? The best approach that's presented itself to me is Lansky crock sticks, which I sometimes will wrap sandpaper onto. But I'm looking for other possibilities or suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I use a Lansky Blademedic, I just use the ceramic part, really works well.

Augie
Each one of those pruners is a gem! I have not seen that Ulster stamp either...splendid! And that Norvell...if only it could tell us its story. It's like looking at a time machine:thumbup:
