Purple! Because Ice cream has no bones!

It’s cool to see, but also makes me kinda sad…
Poor feller, wiped out by whatever theory theyre guessing about…
Im not so broken up by a T-Rex… but little furry elephant, I’d have tried to save him…

I wonder, why is there a Wafter Buffalo skull behind my niece…?
She says they probably just found it at the mine!
Possible North America land bridge? Hmm?

Hey Rupe…
I wish I had a job colliding stuff no one can see…
All the stuff I collided got me in trouble…
Tho, in my defence, we didn’t study Astro physics at Mechanic school…🤪

I've collided with a few things. My pinky toe likes to collide with furniture in the middle of the night.

The nerd in me would love to work at Fermilab. Even if it was just sweeping floors. some of the photos they've posted on Instagram show me that humans are capable of some pretty incredible stuff.

Hey Dave, around your area, do you a lot of coyotes or wolves in the high desert? Mule deer?

Lots of critters. Not wolves so much.

Coyotes in an over abundance, lots of pigs, bobcats, lions, elk, deer. Here at the southern end of the Sierra our deer are said to be a kinda hybrid between the coastal blacktails and the mountain mule deer. No wolves supposedly but there was one struck and killed on the I5 freeway bout an hour from here not too long ago. Traveling son of a gun that one as it was supposed to be a collared and introduced wolf up in Oregon. Came south spent two years around Lake Tahoe and then headed south. Ca Fish and Game kept denying that there was a wolf in Ca, but folks kept posting video and pics of it. Finally they were "monitoring" it, while claiming it was an Oregon wolf. It was a lone female wolf, not sure where it was headed but ever southwards. Wolves kill a lot of stock. Sometimes just for sport.

Lots of elk here in Kern Co. All local sheds:

As of 7/1/2016 California decided that in order to stop elephant poaching in Africa we must stop using Mammoth Ivory or Mammoth Tooth here. At the time of the ban either of those two materials were 20 percent of my business, in that 1 out of 5 knives I made were handled in either ivory or tooth:

I was kinda bent and had a long talk with a customer that was a mucky muck in Fish and Game which is who was tasked with enforcing the new law. He did admit that the poaching deal was a ruse and thats how the new law was "sold" to the public. What was happening was they were catching a lot of elephant ivory smugglers with lots of carved figurines in certain "ethnic" areas, namely Los Angeles and San Fransisco. Neighborhoods that were noted for the very authentic Chinese food. The smugglers defense in court was that the figurines were mammoth ivory not elephant ivory. Although there is a distinct difference in the ivories that anyone with a piece of 220 grit sandpaper could check in about 30 seconds, the courts wanted DNA tests at thousand of dollars each and one for each figurine. He said enforcing the elephant ivory ban was literally bankrupting them. To his credit he was very taken aback when I asked him: "So I should take a 20 percent cut in my business to make your job easier?" Funny thing....... I don't really miss working with them. The tooth particularly was a PITA.

Lions can be a problem here locally. The ranch to the north of us had lost several head of cattle and the ranch to our east had lost a horse to a lion. I had a big crew working, thirteen riders, and we'd covered every inch of our ranch. Sometimes I think our ranch has a portal to a different cow dimension, because we didn't find a single head. And I mean we rode, but the only cattle we found were two head literally standing at the corrals when we got back in the evening. Volunteers. Salty had found a cat and had treed it. He took a pic on his cell phone of the lion in the tree but no cows. I'd had a herd of wild pigs cross the trail right in front of me as we were sliding down a steep fire break. Easton was hard on their heels swinging his rope but his horse got high centered in the sage brush and they got away but no cattle. We had found the band of old retired horses (6) that had free run of the place. The leader was old, bout 34 at the time, although he lived to 36. Apache was a mustang that had had a hard life. We counted 9 different firebrands on the ol guy. He had a lot of emotional baggage from being so many different places and mistreated at some I'm sure. Ya don't get to be 34 in the mustang world by being a wuss. Well, all the old retired horses were fine and we packed up with the plan of coming back in the morning and trying again. Next morning we ride over to the water in the Bowl and lo and behold the entire herd was there. They'd used the portal to come back to the ranch from the other cow dimension. So we get around them and push them the couple miles to the corrals. As we get all the cattle into the corrals, the retired guys come trotting into camp to see what is going on. Apache had claw marks up and down his face but otherwise was fine. Always figured in the mustang world that was an either or thing and since Apache was here that kitty wasn't. Figure sooner or later I'll find a lion skeleton with a squished skull. Ya don't live to be 36 in the mustang world by being a wuss! The neighbors stopped losing stock too.

Purple may not have bones but these do. We got a half of a cow a couple of weeks ago and have been eating like kings. This is dinner for the wife and youngest daughter. We have 5 kids 31-38 are on there on but close by and Kay is 14.

That’s some good looking cow. 👍😎

Five kids? I had two and it wore me out. Good on you for finding the energy to manage five. 😁

Buying whole cows is super efficient monetarily. I recently split a steer 4 ways with my step dad and two guys I work with. I did the math and it ended up being an average of about $4 per pound steaks included. BEST beef I've eaten EVER.

Those Rib Steaks look DELICIOUS.

I'll never go back.

I opened this thread up and saw the steaks and it made me think of a pictured I'd used some years ago. I had to take a quick second look, course having my glasses on would help, thought it was the same pic for a second. Here's mine from at a roping/show where we had our booth set up. We were camping in the parking lot. This is our own beef:

Those are some nice looking steaks! Grassfed?

Yes grass feed Angus. They are a young couple that started doing this and working their butts off but have a great product. Soggy feet is the name out of Scappoose Oregon.

They are almost to thick 11/2 but my friend got some at 1 inch and they where too thin. Next time 11/4. The kid are a blessing the wife and I where young when we started 18 and 19 so we didn’t know any better.

We were young too. I was 20 when my son was born. We had our daughter five years later.

I’ve been an empty nester since I was 49.

Both my kids are grown and live five hours away now with their spouses. All four of them have decided that kids aren’t for them so my son and son-in-law have been snipped. I’m okay with that.

I agree with you. Mine were a blessing too and kept me on the straight and narrow.

No grandkids that would be hard. we have 7 plus the oldest sons new wife has 3 some times it crazy but the summers are fun lots of sleep overs at Nawnaw and Pa’s we have a big back yard with swings and a 16x32 pool.

Great pics Greg! Love to see such a big family living so close to each other. My wife and I are the only ones in Montana from both of our families.

FYI to everyone I added a Cowbell page to the Redmeadow website with a quick description and a few pictures.

Oh and you all should be getting something in the mailbox from me over the next few days.
