QTRMSTR Knives being sketchy (screenshot photo)

Hello everyone,

I'm probably beating a dead horse here. But I was recently intrigued by QTRMSTR's collaboration with Austin Weiss on one of their new knives. Austin is a respected fabricator and welder. And QTRMSTR seemed legit as well, although I had never seen them before.

I started to do research and realized they have a history of being sketchy and the knives might not be USA made like they claim them to be. As I was reading through these forums, they posted a picture on Instagram of the knife I was interested in. I figured I'd ask them about it.

I asked if their knives were made by Wayeah and if they were in fact made in China. THEY BLOCKED ME IMMEDIATELY. I know a company's instagram might not be the best indication of their legitimacy, but I have asked these kinds of questions before and have gotten prompt and proper responses.

They sure as hell know what they're doing in the marketing department at least. They get a lot of attention on social media. Oh well, just thought I'd drop in and share my experience with the hive.

I HAVE ADDED A SCREENSHOT IN A REPLY BELOW.

The screenshot was from the page of the guy who runs the shop. I was blocked by him as well soon after asking.

I directed it to another account, of the guy who runs the shop, and was blocked by him as well.

Well at least you gained another follower 👊🏻. I own a quartermaster Sonny Crockett and it's my biggest knife purchase regret to date; it's an overpriced mall ninja knife.

I was interested in one of their knives as well. That is, until I read all the seriously negative feedback here and elsewhere.

Yah, the rabbit hole is deep on this one. I recently picked up one of their knives simply to review, while being fully aware of the drama and intrigue.

just curious OP, if you check the very instagram page you screenshotted, just look through the photos and you can photos of the knive's production. Sure, you could say that the photos were taken in China, but do you really think they would go through the effort to have a Chinese factory posting artsy filtered instagram photos?

Lol,they sure have gone through a lot of effort to keep the physical location of their supposed Texas knife factory a secret. There is no DBA on file at the alleged claimed location with the county.( Required by law ) They are not registered with the Texas Secretary of State Business Division.( Required by law. ) So yeah,I think those photos were taken in Communist China. ;)

I was shopping for one, but not anymore. Info from this forum counts for a lot in my book. I'm going to steer clear. ..not the kind of company I want to support

Here's my 2 cents. I recently bought a QSE 7 Mr Spicoli, without research. The moment I opened the package, I knew it wasn't for me. Was way too thick of a blade, and just too bulky. Luckily, I found someone on Facebook who happened to be looking for this same exact knife (although he hadn't stated it in his post) and traded me a ZT 0452cf for it. Good riddance.
And everything I know about this company, I have learned from the posts above. Which makes this trade even sweeter.

Wowee - now that's a serious hunk of iron. Looks like something from Mad Max.

I really don't get why they are determined to be so coy/secretive about their company. If it indeed all USA as they promote, let's see some YouTube vids of WIP. Or some of the sellers that do vids to promote a companies wares. Has Late Boy Scout or Nutnfancy, any of those guys reviewed them? I'd think they'd know maybe.

If it's off shore parts assembled here, or whichever, just just so and move on.

Out sourcing parts is not an industry secret or anything. Unless they are actually trying to be this sneaky on purpose just to get guys to buy one to see what the fuss is about.

I'll admit to having two and they aren't too bad a knife actually. Just too big and over built for my tastes. They've stayed packed away since I got them. Probably should dig them out and convert them to something I might use.

Yes, the fact that they block everyone who asks them about it is interesting.

The fact that people have seen and posted receipts of them taking large orders in from China is interesting.

What's most interesting to me though is that the few 'Instagram celebrities' they had who kept 'giving them the benefit of the doubt' and always talking up their knives have stopped doing it.

I'm sure if the knives are made in China, one of the company's people is over there checking on things and going over orders, that's very common and almost necessary. It would be super simple to snap some pictures while walking through the factory in China that's putting your stuff together.

Here's

So they make shielded CAT5/6 cables too? That is awesome.

Here we go again......

Yep, it is to be expected on any forum. Topics get discussed repeatedly (recycled) through the days, weeks, months, and years. Good thjng is that participation is not mandatory, especially empty dismissive commentary. It's how people are educated about things they hold curiosity over. Discussion, without it a forum has no purpose.
