I purchased a Quartermaster Furley knife last year, I have been trying to get a standoff screw that fell out from them since August, 2014. They suggested that I send my knife to them for repair, I shipped to their repair center. I received my knife back today after a month and it was never opened just shipped back to me still missing the screw.

I have 10 or so e-mails from them promising to send me a screw, at this point the only one screwed is me for buying their junk.

Buyers beware....

Quartermaster, Jared, and the fabled Texas location all have a distinct odor that resembles horse feces. I questioned them on Instagram and was crucified by their supposed head honcho. I have no issues with knives made in China, but I have a lot of issues with companies that lie to their customers. Do a search, here, and you will find many topics that discuss Quartermaster/Mantis and their shady practices.

I agree fully. I speak up now more than I used to about Quartermaster. If someone wants to waste their money ok, but I'd rather go with an established company that doesn't look down on the knife community.

Does Quartermaster really have this bad of a rep? I really only got into knives a year or so ago, and I haven't heard much about them other than a picture here or there. It doesn't seem like they'd survive with such a bad name.

Boy, they sure have a fancy website where they claim 100% USA made....
On top of that, the only knife that I don't find repulsive is the Spicoli...

This is another reason I think they use china or taiwan for their production. It takes WAYYY too long to get parts. You should have a screw in two weeks. Not 6 months.

Hmmm I'm pretty close to Drip, maybe I'll do some investigating next time I'm out that ways. Do they have a physical address?

No, and according to them. They are now in Austin at an "off-grid" facility, as they call it.

Here you go Pomelly, makes it a little easier.

Hello everyone,

I am always reluctant about make negative judgments, but when I get more than a test I can no longer pretend nothing, and I take note for my future purchases.

My uncle, who is also a collector, signaled me the Mr.Roper telling me that he would have loved one. I know that my uncle love to have the same knives that I have so, as good grandson, I decided to buy two, one for me and one to donate to my uncle. I state that my uncle is more a collector than a user, but this is not so important in my case...
When the knives arrived the first impression was positive, good packaging, advertising cards and an authentication certificate where an employee declared the knife Perfect and tested.
I opened the plastic bag and I noticed immediatly that the lock tended to hang in both knives... ok, a defect that usually disappears in time.
But one of the knives had a big and deep scratch on the clip, so I decided that that was mine. After a closer look I noticed also some small signs near the pivot, visible backlight, evidently tool marks made during the assembly. I brought patience and thought to use it...

Mine is over; You should see the scratch on the clip...

Two weeks later my uncle came to see me so I gave him his gift. He immediately saw what I had not noticed: a crack in the titanium!!!

I immediatly contacted the customer service of Quartermaster. They answered promptly saying that they would have sent me a replacement handle, and their email ended with this beautiful phrase:
"The phrase LIFETIME GUARANTEE is more than just a marketing strategy, it's a sign of our integrity."

Now, after 3 months and many of my emails without an answer my uncle hold the knife so, and he don't like it, and I will never buy again one of Quartermaster knives!

I'm really pretty willing to give new companies a shot, but Quartermaster had red flags all over from the word go and it seems to have gotten worse since then.

Sorry to hear about the service, and I sincerely hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction.

That is odd, because they more than got me fixed up when I had to use their warranty. I sent in a Murdock for a replacement clip and the blade was pretty beat up, the detent was worn, and the serrations were awful. I mentioned that a plain edge blade would be awesome, and I would gladly pay for a replacement. About 2 weeks later I get a package with a brand new stonewashed plain edge Murdock. They got me fixed right up in record time. It is definitely weird that they didn't get you fixed up.

One thing that goes into high quality is consistently good performance. They seem to be the opposite.

As for their business plan, there is always "One born every minute."

I have read all of the Quartermaster threads and most everything is just regurgitated info. Even the manifest from China to a company owned by Jared in Southern, CA as proof that Quartermaster knives are being imported. Well the company is near Mantis and could be a Mantis order. Jared could still be on Mantis's books. And if I am not mistaken aren't Mantis knives made in Taiwan and China and that is the connection? Basically, the only proof that has been shown, is not proof....just a guess. Not that I am going to buy one of their knives, but I have seen more positive customer service experiences with QM then negative. In fact they seem to have a similar record to companies like Spyderco.

Quatermaster may be a DBA and this is why it is hard to find who owns them and where they are. Until I see a valid business record showing that Jared owns Quartermaster, I'll just leave judgement to the armchair lynch squad. Basically until I see real proof....what is written all over Bladeforums is just flotsam.

Makes sense -- its easy and inexpensive to send in a replacement knife instead of parts when they are made in China. ;-) I personally find their designs fugly, and with all the lies and other information shared on blade forums will never ever go closer to QTRMSTR

Being as QTRMSTR is made in China the Longshoreman strike may have delayed parts. You could possibly bypass them and get spare parts faster from the factory in Mainland China.
