Queen Dan Burke small barlow

:)

What do you think pushed me over the edge? I am a "canoe guy" -- 90% of my pocket knives are Canoe-based patterns -- but this little guy is getting a disproportionate share of pocket time since it arrived. Buy one – you won't be sorry.

It really is a beauty, I received one for my birthday past 4 oct and it is the finest Barlow I've had the pleasure of holding.:)

got my Queen DB barlow today.. man oh man, is this thing nice... mine was slightly used but all in all, seems to be in great condition.. the F & F is perfect.. it is nice aand comfortable in the hand.. i love it...:D i'll try and get some pics up soon...:)

The knife looks very nice. Does anyone know what it weighs?
Does it have half stops?
Are the blades nicely centered with no play?

I don't have the exact weight but both blades have half stops and are centered on mine. The wharncliffe blade does have some slight side to side play but not enough for me to complain about.

i have a small litle pocket scale, that i use to weigh my arrows, i just weighed my DB barlow and it weighed in at 3.19 oz. not the lightest knife for it's size, but it is nice and solid none the less..

both blades on mine have great half stop.. the main blade is a hair from being centered and the wharnie is spot on... there is no blade play on any of mine..

I saw this knife in an A.G. Russell catalog and became interested. I found an online source that is about $30 cheaper than A.G.'s price...it should be here by this coming Friday. I can't wait to get it. I've always like barlows and the wharncliffe blade is really a nice feature. This will be my first bone handled knife as well as my first experience with D2 steel.

I just got my Dan Burke Barlow today (I ordered it less than 4 days ago, Thank you collectorknives.net)
One word to describe this knife: exceptional. This is my first Queen (I'm very impressed)
and it is so beautifully made. I have always like the Barlow pattern but haven't had one since I was a kid. And the Barlow I had was nothing like this. The bone is beautiful, the nickel silver is a nice contrast, and the D2 came sharp out of the box. Hats off to Dan Burke! I think if Queen limits this to 300 knives like I've read, they are really doing knife lovers a disservice.

Man, I sure wish you guys would just knock it off already...:p

Well sir, you're in it now!

Soon there will be different kinds of bone colors, then there will be favorite jigging patterns (which will change with each knife), then sizes, blade profiles, and on and on.

Then you will go to other knife designs like traditional jacks, stockmen, peanuts, etc., and start the whole thing all over as described in the previous paragraph to find that just right model of another design/pattern.

In my experience, it is a long search going down a long road. There is no end.

And boy am I happy about that! :D

Don't let anyone buffalo you about needing anything special to sharpen the D2. I have about 15 knives in D2 (from Queen, Kershaw, and Ontario), and any that needed a grind correction or reprofile wound up on the Lansky with the plain stones. A little patience, and they sharpened easily.
I touch them up with a 12" chef's diamond rod, and it works fine too.

I'm not really compulsive about collecting tons of variations. I like lots of different kinds of knives. While I've recently been attracted to traditional slip joints, I still like and use my Emerson, Al Mars, Striders, Benchmades and other tactical folders. I don't specialize in one type or style. As to sharpening, I have used the DMT diamond stone and that seems to work fine.

i've returned to this thread repeatedly to admire pictures of this Barlow. finally pulled the trigger tonight and, man, am i excited :D
will post pics when it arrives :thumbup:

Just got done giving mine the sharpening job it deserved on the Edge Pro I got yesterday. I wouldn't carry it until it had a proper edge because I wanted to give it a fighting chance to take over as my EDC slippie. I am pretty sure it has taken the spot of the trapper and butterbean combo I have been carrying for about two weeks now. OHHH Yeah Congrats on pulling the trigger this one goes bang real loud.

Well, add me to the list. I saw this thread, and thought, well, I don't need a barlow. Then I saw the Queen Dan Burke large barlow in a catalog. Then I see Jani's small Burke barlow. Well, I had seen an old Ka-Bar 1013 barlow, dirt cheap, at a local fleamarket, and got it.

Nope, it didn't do anything but put more fuel on the fire. I need those barlows worse than ever now.

I had forgotten about the old Colonial barlow I had. I hope I can find it, that little knife spent my childhood with me.

this is one of the most desirable queens to hit the streets in a long time. the pattern of spear & wharncliffe are perfect.i wish gec would make this bone.
