I've mentioned somewhere - I think KnifeNetwork - that I have friends "in the Industry" who run a farm implement accessories manufacturing factory, and I can GET the #50 if Darren runs into a snag.

Oh jeez, NOW we're in trouble!!!! :D

Be afraid,,,be very afraid :D

While at my new place of employment (Thielsch Engineering, Inc) I was asking certain people about quenchants. I found out that there is a 55 gallon drum around that they are getting rid of. I don't know what type it is, but, I sure will find out. The safety department head, said that he will get me a 5 gallon container full, as I said, I will find out what type this oil is.

If it's for free, it's for me.

Just wanted to update this thread to keep you guys in the loop. I hope all of you were serious, as this is moving in a positive direction. I should have more info in about a week. :)

Darren.
I for one am very serious. I tried to get some oil from Heatbath and they would not even entertain the idea. I am interested in both oil and high temp salts. Keep us informed and let us know when we can order.

Chuck

i guess i could get rid my olive oil if you had something in the slower range
i realy only keep oil around for back up if i have a problem with my quench plates gettign to warm (work with mostly stainless steel)

They're here! Give me a few days to get the page set up on the website and I think we can have things ready to ship on our Monday shipping day! :)

Is it the oil that came in? I noticed on your site you have salt tubes and systems. If it is the Parks #50 I am in for at least 5 gallons. I will keep an eye out for it on the site as well.

Chuck

Darren, send me out 5 gallons. I'll call you or you call me for my credit card #.:D Don't forget I need more of your fliers for my HI's coming up.:D

Hi Guys. It's been a busy week! :) Online ordering has been updated on the site for quench oils and salts.

I went ahead and ordered mine from Heatbath and got my 15 gallons some time ago. Really good stuff!

Craig, it will last a long, long time. No worrys there. But if you're quenching blades every day, I would think it should be replace once a year or so.

Thanks Don,
I don't think I'll be quenching blades daily... at the rate I make them... this should last quite a while.... now I just need to build a quench tank....
Any idea on some good dimensions for 5 gallons?.... figured I'd weld up a tank and a lid.... got my Texaco A stored in a Gasoline container and keep having to pour it out into an old steel bucket and then pouring it back in.....:o

I went to home depot and found a watertight metal planter that holds 3.5 gallons. Its elliptical/rectangluar in shape, which is great for blades as well. I just cover it with saran wrap so dust and grindings dont go in it and store it on a shelf. If it flares up during quench, i just throw a small piece of plywood on the top and smother it.
