SOG QUESTION: ANY OTHER SERIOUS SOG COLLECTORS OUT THERE?

When I googled the model you're talking SOG Terminus it took me to a Knife News article that talked about it and the Mikkel. The Terminus looks like all the other tactical folders but that Mikkel seem like it could give the overbuilt crowd a run for it's money.
Yes, a very interesting model for SOG. Not only is it not overtly "tactical" it's also an "upscale" collab with a well-known maker. Another piece of evidence that their new CEO is determined not to follow the path of recent years.

I have to say that my nostalgia for SOG is for their years when they were producing mid-to-high quality, overtly "tactical" fixed blades and folders so I kind of want them to keep that overall feel. But even more than that I want them to rebuild their good reputation and if that requires a move into the "upscale production collaboration" marketplace, I'm all for it.

Yes, collectors are definitely a valuable resource. They bring a perspective that your average user simply doesn't have. They also tend to be a wealth of information:

I pulled this post from SOGMASTER's identical thread in the SOG subforum. I had no idea that this many versions of Recondos existed. I also had never even visited the SOG subforum prior to Jay starting this thread here in General Knife Discussion.

So what has this thread accomplished? As a "community" we told an SOG collector that he really needs to go somewhere besides Blade Forums or else hang out in the SOG subforum if he doesn't want his brand trashed (because that's what GKD is for, right?). Inside of a week, we managed to alienate (and possibly run off for good) someone who might have added tremendously to our knowledge of a knife brand and its history. But, hey, at least we now know that SOG Specialty Knives ain't what it used to be and that SOG knives don't rate with real knife enthusiasts.

I also hope that SOGMASTER decides to return to Blade Forums. I wouldn't blame him if he didn't, though.

-Steve

P.S. - No need for anyone to ever ask me why I'm not a paying member of Blade Forums. This thread demonstrates my reasons quite clearly.
Excellent, Whip! In the 5 or 6 years I've been reading threads on Bladeforums. I've learned so much about so many different brands of knives - most of which I have no interest at all. For the most part this is an excellent forum to learn from. I've learned nothing from opinions that state a certain brand is "crap" or "junk".

You're fine....just don't so much as hint at the prospect of opening a site in the future....gets some of the regulars panties in a bunch. The rules don't allow for the promotion of sites unless they are paying contributor to the forum, even if the site in question doesn't exist yet. They are a protective bunch when it comes to the rules, but they are generally well intended (they just don't always play well with others). Also, try and steer clear of discussing values of knives, this too can be taken as veiled hints at selling. Keep sales discussions limited to the sales forum and you are all good. Stick to sharing your interest in SOG, its history, and interesting company facts and just know that you are gonna get a few people that feel the need to crap on the thread because they feel their opinions are shared by all.
Very sage advice. Not only have I heard you, I understand you and BFs rules much better. Hence, I went back to every post and removed much of what you pointed out and will proceed in the same direction. My intent for putting a post into the GENERAL KNIFE FORUM was to attract as much interest as possible... and I got it. I really don’t belong here though, so if anyone wants to follow me into the MANUFACTURES FORUM>SOG I’ll be around. No longer SOGMASTER either... my brother kidded me with that name, but OnlySOG sounds better. Later, Jay
