SOG QUESTION: ANY OTHER SERIOUS SOG COLLECTORS OUT THERE?

I didn't interpret the original post in the same way as you Marcinek in terms of your "thinly veiled" comment. He just wants to see who are interested in SOGs and who might collect them other than himself.

Well, that's it...I'm leaving. Harumph.

:D

I didn't interpret the original couple posts that way either. The later ones I did.

The Tomcat II was my first SOG and selling off my collection will keep my fingers busy during my retirement in a few years.

Awesome! I’m following you now. At times I need to make room for more valuable knives, so I’ll sell a few via eBay for rock bottom prices.

In roughly 5-6 years I plan on offering my collection up on my future website ONLYSOG.COM.

Nope. I’m not a dealer. Simply a Vintage SOG Knife Collector that one day will have a website promoting discontinued/rare SOG Knives. However, I do sell some periodically to make room. Once I retire 4 or 5 years from now I’ll be selling. Why do you ask?

That whole part is probably neither here nor there....but it just got a little thick for me.

Anyway....not everybody likes SOG. If one doesn't want to hear it, get a blog...or one's own website. Crimoney.

Gee wizz, that's 4-6 years at least down the road. Plenty of time to get a Gold Membership. You love to pick at people.

As an owner of only one SOG, and a member always looking to learn more, I was hoping for a lively discussion on the pros and cons of SOG as a brand rather than a member just doing pre promotion and getting his website name out there. Certainly glad the thread ended up being the former.

With all the "you guys are SOG-hater jerks" claims being made, I just wanted to make my position as "non-SOG hater jerk" clear.

I own at least a dozen SOGs (more actually). I'm neither a lover nor a hater. I'm not too concerned about whether or not he develops a website that he hopes attracts collectors down the road. As a collector, eventually you sell or hope to sell to people who might appreciate your efforts as well as the knives you own.

Hey BF. After reading so many posts/comments I’m a bit exhausted. As in my original post, I was looking for serious SOG Collectors that want to collaborate. Hence, I contacted a member in Belgium (no disrespect, but not even in the U.S.?) and it is what it is. The bottom line... There isn’t one member of BF, other than my Belgium SOG Brother that can represent as a serious SOG Collector. No problem.
Question: If BF has members that are intelligent, critical thinkers, well versed and analytical, why is the quality of new SOGs being introduced into the conversation? Do you really think I’ve invested $100k in Chinese SOG Knives? LOL!!! I’m sitting back reading these posts and wonder why the horse jumped over the fence and is running over the hill now. It’s time to bring it back into the box Gentlemen. Let me be 100% clear “I collect only the highest quality, primarily “Discontinued” SOG Knives from Seki Japan.” Quite honestly, because of my strong interest in preserving undocumented SOG history, I believe my collection isn’t only the best in the U.S., but in the world.
Now that’s out of the way and my cards have been somewhat revealed, if you want to complain about your $35 SOG that doesn’t work, or worse yet discuss the play in the blade of your Flash or tell me that I’m butt hurt-whatever. I’m not here to play rookie ball and convince the world about the quality of the SOG brand. I know that my SOGs are flat-out awesome. Gentlemen, in one of my drawers there are 17 pristine Tigersharks, 4 Midnites, 6 satin, 6 powder coated and a black powder coated documented by SOG to be 1 of 1. Also, I probably have 6 or 8 Tigershark 2.0s but who’s counting. All of these different types of Tigersharks, along with the rest of my SOG Collection, will be photographed, documented and preserved for other knife enthusiasts... isn’t this hororable enough for BF members? Why am I being trolled to have a dealer membership when the website isn’t even functional? It’s humorous Gentlemen... seriously humorous. Trust me... I’ll scrape the $ up somehow and purchase a dealership membership for all the BF watchdogs out there once the site is up.
I want to end on a positive note now. Thanks for all the level headed comments from solid members, like DIRTYDAVE100, WHIP, DETROIT STEEL, KEN HASH, MISTER MOON, RUMJACKER, and SOGBELGUIM. I’m following you and appreciate your feedback. I sincerely hope this post finally ends the topic of the quality of SOG Knives... or I’ll have to take one of my SK5 Tigersharks and ask the challenger to put their money where their mouth is - LOL! Cheers... time for a beer Gents. Jay

Yes they can be! What is the extent of your SOG collecting history?
If you are a SOG fan you should go there. Lots of good threads with pictures started by SOG fans.

I don't collect SOG knives. I've been aware of the brand since its inception. I've read lots of articles about SOG knives over the years. I've casually followed the company's offerings throughout its history. I genuinely admired the whole catalog in the early days and have since been interested in various models off and on. I own several SOGs, but SOG designs generally never spoke to me the way other brands' designs did over the years. So I've never really had a reason to go to the subforum. SOGMASTER's thread here piqued my curiosity.

What I am, however, is a lifelong knife fan. I am interested in discovering, discussing, reading the histories of, and sharing information about knives (particularly combat and fighting knives, but truly I love them all). So when someone who is excited about a brand that I have a general interest in starts a thread to share his years-long passion, I read it. Sometimes that enthusiasm is infectious. Even if it isn't, I enjoy learning new facts about the brand. (Note that I said facts; opinions are nice and occasionally entertaining, but I prefer facts.)

Jay, welcome back! I'm very glad to see that you gave Blade Forums another shot, sir. I think you'll find good company here (there really are a lot of pleasant and knowledgeable people on these boards). And I look forward to plenty of interesting conversations about SOG knives--past present, and future!

-Steve

Well, after reading your most recent post O OnlySOG and getting a better sense of your attitude, let me offer you my appologies for treading into your thread with my plebian commentary and well-wishing back in post #89.

I'll be showing myself to the door now. By the way, those comments about maybe a blog being the being the correct medium for you? Give them some thought.

Yep... I’m still around. I have a couple of saved rounds on some the recent posts I missed. I get the fact that this is a knife forum. Got it... anything goes and there should be no mention of “censorship” and there should be a “freedom to express”... good, bad, get thick skin (I love that one especially after eating feces during my entire military/civil service career and slinging it back) but someone please educate the new Guy on why members don’t start their own thread if they’re interested in driving off the road, plowing through the fence and driving into the desert for 100 miles off topic? For example, what’s wrong with starting this thread, “ANYBODY OWN A CRAPPY CHINA SOG?” Seriously, I’m not mocking anyone... shouldn’t that be the best COA? I just find it a bit ironic how so many members are warning me and each other about the appropriateness of my/their comments when I should be complaining about staying on topic... which I’m clearly not interested in. Anyway, I’m not selling anything, I’m not mad if you feel the new SOGs are crap (for a third time), and for the BF members concerned about me promoting a future interest... I’d simply ask for a little latitude until I get comfortable in the saddle. PUntil I post again I’d like to quote the infamous words of Rodney King by saying “Can’t we all get along” on BF to advance ourselves as Great Americans that love knives?

I rest my case... I can’t please the world. Also, I’m not sure what to make of your recent comments, other than they contain a bit of a slap. No big deal... 4merFMF, specifically a former Fleet Marine Force Marine. Anyway, I’ve been rather gracious and humble while entering the new arena, but I guess not enough for you and other members. BTW plebian is spelled plebeian.

No one stated “Jerk” and your sensitivity to promoting a nonexistent future interest strikes me as overly critical... especially after being a member for a week. Anyway, your attempt to smear me reflects poorly on you and your ability to participate in this thread.

Lets start over. Hi, I’m new to BF and was courious if there were any SOG Knife Collectors out there. If so, I’d like to connect with you and discuss rare SOGs and basically exchange notes. It has been my experience that collectors can greatly help one another with their collections, so I thought I’d try using BF to reach out. My interest in in discontinued SOG knive as well. If you’re a serious collector I’d like to hear from you. Jay

My only SOG is a SEAL 2000 from later production years (I'm guessing), a bit scratched up and with a repainted sheath. A nice knife just the Zytel stuff isn't all that nice in a bare hand but I used it with gloves when I did use it. I considered maybe having somebody make new scales for it but I don't have use for a fixed blade these days so it's relegated to a drawer. It's nice to have if needed though. I considered the Quake XL a few times, seemed kind of cool but other knives kept taking the "Want to buy now" spot at the top of the list.

Anyone like SOG Recondos? There are four different types of blades shown. Specifically, bead blasted, satin, satin TiNi and bead blasted TiNi. Of course, there are a few Recondos, but most of them are X42 Recondos with steel hardness up to HRC62. The grinds are very unique, which makes it exceptionally lethal. On the sidelines are a couple of Team Leaders, Team Leader Survival, NW Rangers and a few others. View media item 4446

Indeed. If I had known we had the greatest, most serious SOG collector on the planet here, I would not have been so impertinent. I'm sure no one would have!

You are right. After having been a member for only a week, and now knowing your importance, I hardly feel worthy of participating in this thread.

I would love to see some Leather Handled SOGs if you don't mind sharing? The SOG Bowie always called out to me.

Touché Marcinek. You’ve clearly identified yourself as irrelevant to the conversation by repeadly twisting posts into something vile. I got to say you’re kinda good at it too, but I don’t believe anyone is very impressed. It’s simply fodder we need to step over - no substance again and again. Subsequently, by explaining my collection, only to lend perspective and show my interest to others, arrogance is thrown in my face. The great opportunist Marcinek strikes again.
As the new Guy (that’s humility I’ve expressed several times BTW) I’ve received enough information that a majority of the members on this thread are good people that have a genuine interest in vintage SOG Knives, so I’m sticking around for them.
I only recommend that you try to contribute something worthy... and maybe quit quoting Socrates too because no one is being fooled. You’re a miserable guy. Marcinek = Miserable... and misery loves company. I’m done here.

When did I quote Socrates?

For a guy who is only here to "...[explain] my collection, only to lend perspective and show my interest to others, ..." there have been a lot mentions to your website and upcoming sales on it and on eBay.

People do pay a premium to promote their businesses here and I hate to see their generous support taken advantage of.

Since you are asking for "... a little latitude until I get comfortable in the saddle..." here are the rules for proting ones business.
  1. You are allowed to have any other level of membership and take part in discussions, but unless you have a DEALER membership you may not:
  2. Mention or link to your business in any way (not applicable to Knifemakers)
  3. Use private messaging to sell to members
  4. Include your business name in your username
  5. Use your signature or avatar to promote your business.
  6. Take part in any discussions involving your business OUTSIDE the Feedback forum.
I'll be back next time you start talking about selling your knives again.
