Show me 1 post of trying to sell a knife. You won’t find one. Even once it’s up NOTHING will be for sale for years... for the 10th time. Isn’t there a mall that you live by that needs a security guard?
Here's a bit of interesting history. SOG claimed their blades were 440a but it was actually AUS6. Link to what @KenHash had to say: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...y-of-the-sog-seal-2000.1326386/#post-15228031
And so I'm back.
Sure would love to hear you talk about your unparalleled SOG collection and expertise instead of promoting your business.
Then I wont be back. Easy peasy.
Is he promoting something? He has been pretty clear that he isnt.
I’m eventually standing up an ONLYSOG.COM website that will include pics, specs, and a short description.
...selling off my collection will keep my fingers busy during my retirement in a few years.
At times I need to make room for more valuable knives, so I’ll sell a few via eBay for rock bottom prices...In time I’ll post a few gems from my collection.
A typical S1 Bowie with the square SOG logo and black leather sheath is worth roughly $350 in excellent shape. The earlier S1 Bowies that are stamped SOG SPECIALTIES in the same condition $575-$625 and with presentation box $800 - $1400 (the lower the number raises the value, especially 0005-0025 that cost $495 new back in 1986 (see attachment/SOG Ad for the S1 Bowie from a 1986 Soldier of Fortune Magazine) as only 1.5 were made.
Since my posting there has only been one other SOG collector and he lives in Belgium... wow that’s kind of sad.
Whats childish is not letting the thread apply to collectors not complainers.
I liked SOG knives many, many years ago when they were a quality company. I would only purchase a vintage one now out of nostalgia.
I was very disappointed when the company went and slashed quality in favour of profit, in my estimation at the time, but that was the trend back then, along with Gerber and whoever bought out Shrade. Cold Steel seemed to be heading in that direction at the time as well, but I purchased Japaneses manufactured Cold Steel knives (before the rush to the bottom) instead of SOG and Gerber.
Darned shame really. SOG would be a lot more popular and collected here today if they hadn't forsaken quality to the extent that they have now. I think this is probably why the number of serious SOG collectors seem to be so few on BF.
I tend to agree. Hell, some of the youngest newbie collectors would probably think SOG was a great new knife company! They would do well if they went the Spyderco route, keep some high end models/US made ones, outsource some to Taiwan for midrange and some entry/budget China Models.
Cater to the range of buyers, elevate their current reputation. Their style is recognizable, they would do well I think.
I’ve found the Ignore button. Thx for the assistSogmaster - One cool feature of this site is the "ignore" button...I suggest you give it a try![]()
Ya’ know... I can’t explain this any better. Pls read ALL of my posts. Here’s the deal. Even if I purchased whatever BF membership you and Marcinek want me to have, you’d still find something to complain about. I’ve been passing a lot about SOGs in numerous posts, exhibiting the best of virtues as a new member and still the eye pokes. I’m a NEW member! I’m going to stick around a little longer so I can access the quality of the dialog... so far I haven’t been impressed with how overly critical a few members are... which is a shame for the rest that are interested.A little more veiled:
This all looks like promoting a sales website and preparing to sell, so Marcinek and JBC6650 politely suggested he get a dealer membership.
JBC6650 then politely addressed why he isn't seeing more interest, based on his own experience.
I don't understand why it is childish to respond to previous posts.
I'm not trying to get you to purchase anything. If I ever suggest something like that, it's just to help someone who may not know the rules avoid gaining infraction points. Nothing more, nothing less. In my previous post, I was addressing some questions and statements. This is a discussion forum, after all. You mentioned that there aren't many SOG collectors here, and it was explained to you the likely reason why. That is no reason to explode, put anyone on ignore, or quit the site. If you do any of those, though, it is your choice.Ya’ know... I can’t explain this any better. Pls read ALL of my posts. Here’s the deal. I am a SOG collector. You're a buck guy. You spend most of your time in the buck sub-forum. I've got a bunch of posts and threads in the SOG sub-forum. Have you been over there? Lots of good pictures. This isn't a manufacturer's sub-forum. We don't just talk rainbows and unicorns. All matters of a company can be discussed including why more serious collectors of a certain company don't exist here. The OP expressed this concern so I addressed the topic.OP is wanting to talk to collectors. No reason to absolutely prove without a shadow of doubt that some people dont care for the brand.
Whats childish is not letting the thread apply to collectors not complainers.
I agree. There's no reason that SOG can't make a turn-around. It's easy to be cynical because we never see this happen -- knife companies always seem to move from "great" to "crap" as fallen giants sell off their IP to bloodsuckers that care about nothing except exploiting a once-great reputation.Their style is recognizable, they would do well I think.
Yes. I own several SMCA Tigersharks... Midnite and Satin.I am a SOG collector. You're a buck guy. You spend most of your time in the buck sub-forum. I do have a question for O OnlySOG , have you seen a Midnite Tigershark stamped S.M.C.A before? I had one and was told it was quite rare. Thread on the subject: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/sog-tiger-sharks-help-with-identity.1175400/

Interesting. Can you post pictures? Of the midnite smca tigershark specifically.Yes. I own several SMCA Tigersharks... Midnite and Satin.
Good!I collect all kinds
That is very interesting. I hadn't seen that. Thanks for sharing.I agree. There's no reason that SOG can't make a turn-around. However, there's no reason that with good ownership a company can't make a comeback. There's plenty of evidence in this thread that many of us, myself included, remember them fondly.
SOG itself, it seems to me, is trying. In 2016 they hired a new CEO and shortly after announced a new push towards US-manufactured models which they seemed to have followed up on. Just today they announced the impending release of their new Terminus XR model. Its a CTS-BDZ1 drop point flipper folder with a new lock that they call the XR. They imply that it's based on the Axis lock but with enough new features to be patentable. I haven't been able to find a photo of the clip side but I'm hoping that they've toned down the awful overdone SOG branding that has been their recent style.
Turn up the value. Turn down the branding. Mix new designs with beloved favorites and they could do well.
